    Hey man You should look into the rumor that the final floor of the pagoda wouldve shown bruce’s character finding a book with a mirror in it. Also, did you know that Shrine of Ultimate Bliss (1974), The man from hong kong (1975), and A Queen’s Ransom (1976) were all supposed to be Bruce’s next projects after Enter the Dragon and G.O.D, with Bruce supposedly going to be cast as a sniper in Queen’s Ransom? Interesting stuff. I’d love to see you delve into it brother!

      @@axelstone3131 that would be some sick shit. One thing about Bruce is he would always hint at his next movie plans in each movie. For example: in way of the dragon, the beginning resturaunt scene had a multi floor pagoda logo on the outside of the resturaunt right before uncle wong swings the fly swatter. Secondly, in ETD think about all the yellow and black color tones, & during the boat scene how the smaller praying mantis turned the tables and overpowered the other praying mantis: hinting at the kareem vs bruce fight. And also Bruce insisting to Mr. braithwraite about using guns on the island…and also not to mention Bruce giving that “I’ll catch you next time” look to Bolo when stepping back to allow Roper to take the challenge. Lastly, think about how short the nunchuku sequence was, purely as a tease because Bruce knew his own next movie G.O.D would feature a double nunchuku scene🤌🏿. Blessings brotha🦾🦾🦾🧠

    The Wing Tsun Kuen by Leung Ting was a seriously dangerous book! I had one with a red cover (Revised Edition bought in 1990). It had an extra tough plastic cover with sharp edges. If you were reading it and it slipped out of your hands it could fall and cut off one of your limbs.
    On the other extreme James Demile’s “Tao of Wing Chun Do” books. I used to see them in various martial arts shops in London. It was broken in pieces. After some time I saw a fresh set of the books. I bought Vol 1 & 2 or more. I don’t think I made it home before the binding snapped. All of them in pieces.
    I dumped a lot of these books away years ago. Can’t believe I was throwing away $100 dollar bills.

    Here's another question, KFG: I've heard that Martial Arts training has been extremely beneficial for American Football (e.g., Gridiron for Brits and Aussies) linemen when coming into contact with the opposing line. With this in mind, I would think that the forearm sensitivity developed in Wing Chun and WC footwork would be very useful (especially when attempting to pass-rush past the opposing line to blitz the opposing quarterback). Have you ever heard of Wing Chun for Football or ever worked with any Professional Athletes/NFL players to develop this part of their game?

    One of the most interesting articles I've ever read, and the piece that sparked my interest (at the age of eleven) in historical research, is Peter Gast's "Legends of the Shaolin Temple...and the Truth," which appeared in the June 1984 issue of INSIDE KUNG-FU. In the space of a few pages, Gast demolished not only the Bodhidharma/Ta Mo legend (pointing out that "there are no records in India that mention the existence of *any* Ta Mo," and likewise no evidence to support the contention that the *Muscle Change Classic* was authored by the alleged Indian monk), but also the famous stories about the destruction of both the Northern and Southern Shaolin monasteries (historical records fail to verify either incident). They're great stories, but only that.

  • @BRUCEJJ66
    @BRUCEJJ66 Год назад +1

    Regarding Leung Ting's book Wing Tsun Kuen, I bought a copy roughly forever ago (15 years or so before the Internet was a thing) at the recommendation of my first martial arts teacher. I still have it probably as much for nostalgia's sake as anything else, but I always found certain bits amusing about it; firstly, what the hell is a "10th Level Master Of Comprehension"? Is that anything like a self-promoted 10 th degree black belt? Then there are the "practical applications" being demonstrated on guys who looked like the "lost drunken men who no longer care where they find themselves each morning", not only don't they look in any way threatening, they look dangerously malnourished! And what's with the picture of "Lueng Ting at the age of 16" which the author amusingly finds the need to explain as "a photo taken in the beach in the summer time"? Silly stuff.
    What do you think of James (& Bruce) Lee's book Wing Chun Kung-Fu? I'm certainly no Kung Fu Genius, my opinion on such things isn't exactly highly qualified, but I always thought the applications in this book looked more, well, applicable than those in many other books, & I always appreciated the fact that Ted Wong's attacks were more widely varied than just attacks from a fellow Wing Chun guy, some looked like basic boxing combos, some looked like they came from other styles of Kung Fu, etc., in fairly convincing manner. Also, speaking of James Y. Lee, do you have his book Modern Kung-Fu Karate, first published in 1957? I recently found a reprinted version put out by Greglon Lee in 1990 in a used book store, I wouldn't say it's great or a classic but it is interesting to see some of the stuff James Lee was teaching before he met Bruce.

    It is not inconceivable that an Indian Yogi would have known Kalaripayattu. Even today Yogic techniques and Ayurvedic medicinal knowledge is often mixed with the Indian martial training. Some of the best preserved historical documents on Shaolin are preserved in Japanese Zen temples due to the cultural exchange between the Chinese and Japanese government and Buddhist temples during Tang Dynasty China (I forget the period name in Japan). There are bamboo scrolls carried from China to Japan at that time still preserved in Japanese temple libraries. There is brief mention of Shaolin fighting monks by Emperial Chinese scribes as well but I can not remember the date or source.

    • @TheKungFuGenius
      @TheKungFuGenius  Год назад +2

      Except that theory has already been debunked - the two martial traditions don’t not bear the stamp of shared DNA. Plus, this is exactly how the sausage of conspiracy is made - a quick fix to the hypothesis is inserted without evidence of said quick fix to make the hypothesis work. This is not the scientific method in historical research. Because now you share the extra burden of proving that he Zen monk, also learned an Indian martial art, brought that over to China, and without any evidence, taught it to Chinese monks.
