Had a Model Y with 19" wheels for three years next February ( one of the first boat load) It is simply the best car I have ever driven, even the suspension has got better as it runs in. The reason people feel sick in them is because they drive them like an ICE car and don't use the one pedal driving properly. You never ever take your foot off the throttle to slow down unless you mean to do so rapidly, just gently up and down on the throttle so the car goes at the speed you want to including coming to a complete halt, you never need to touch the brake pedal, it is very comfy when driven like that. Your choice of the MG is perfect for your use case and someone else paid the depreciation. Sadly you will have issues when you buy anything newer as they will all have the "driver aids" you both hated in the Kona.

Great to hear you're happy with yours.
I guess you get used to what you get used to.
I drove a friend's Model Y with many miles on to see if it had loosened up compared to the demo. Not much difference in my experience.
The sales people told me the same thing about the accelerator, that's not the issue in our case. I've been riding fast motorcycles for many years that have way more acceleration and engine braking than the Model Y so I'm very used to being super gentle with the controls, especially with passengers on board.
We both drive the MG5 in the highest regen mode too 👍

@@UpsideDownFork Ive got a 1198 Ltwin and I dont think you get much more engine braking than that but its a good thing it has a slipper clutch lol
As for acceleration compared to a Y, (mine has the AB) it's still very impressive and can catch out (not catch up) plenty of bikes out there. It's a decent practical tool for a petrol head for sure. MG all the way though if I was to have a sensible head on my shoulders 🤣

@@jsouto77 oh yes, a modern slipper clutch does work wonders! Going from my old GSXR1000 to a modern GSXS1000 was a bit of a revelation, fundamentally the same engine just with a slipper clutch added. 👍
I'm on an Aprilia RS660 now. Slowest bike I've had in a long time but seriously fun in the corners 👍

@@UpsideDownFork Indeed. Raw power is great but the power to weight of a lighter bike does make for being less cumbersome and more nimble ad fun hence why most swear by the gixer 750 as a great balance. As much as I would never get rid of my bike (had her for about 14 years) its a bit cumbersome at times and If i want to ride it again next year ill have to drain the old fuel hence I keep looking at BMW's CE 04 as its an easy second bike to have but a little bit rich on price for me anyways at the moment just for a bit of leisure and Im spending the money on more renewables instead.

For a two car family with the ability to charge at home, an EV makes total sense for that second car. Congratulations on your purchase.
We recently replaced our "second" car, a 2007 Mazda 3 bought in 2010, with a 'used 22 Chevrolet Bolt EV. The Mazda was "my car", because my wife didn't like driving it. It was noisy and had trouble starting, and somehow she used to stall it occasionally (it's an automatic, still don't know how she managed that).
"Her" car was a 2010 Honda Odyssey, which we got in 2012 when our first child got too heavy to lift in and out of a saloon car rear seat in her bassinet. That became the "family" car, for when we were taking our two kids anywhere.
My wife was skeptical about an EV, but became a convert in less than a week. This is now effectively the family car and her commuting car (I work from home), and the Odyssey is there as a second vehicle if we need one, or to carry something big. Even if all four of us are going somewhere in town, the Bolt is now the car of choice.
The Bolt gets about 4 miles/kWh, for us that's 2.5 cents/mile, vs the Odyssey getting 19 mpg, or about 17.5 cents/miles at current gas prices.
We also generate our own solar power, so the Bolt is running on sunshine.

@@UpsideDownFork We're in Eugene, Oregon, having moved here in Dec 2009 from Ealing, London.
Most houses here are detached with their own driveways, often with room for 2 or 3 vehicles, so plenty of opportunity for EV takeup, if only people could get over the misinformation as see the benefits.
I often see the "But what if I want to drive from Land End to John O' Groats" comments, but of course those aren't the journeys 95% of us take 95% of the time. Most of us buzz around town in 10-20 mile radius from our homes.

      @UpsideDownFork  Месяц назад

@ziploc2000 so true. I'm in Southern California at the moment. The lack of solar panels and any EVs apart from Tesla is kind of worrying.
Trying to hire an EV was a mission in itself and I had to give up in the end sadly.
Sorry to say this, but it seems like the UK is so far ahead it's not even remotely comparable.
As a side note, I have family all over the states, a sister in law who used to live in Portland that now lives in Utah. She bemoans how conservative Utah is after living in a much more progressive area of the country.

    • @ziploc2000
      @ziploc2000 Месяц назад

@@UpsideDownFork My understanding is that gas and electricity are both very expensive in SoCal, so solar panels and an EV would make a lot of sense, especially the Solar panels with all that extra sunshine compared to mid-Oregon, but it is a big investment that takes years to pay off, but less so the higher the electric prices.
We mostly did ours for environmental reasons, and electricity here in Eugene is mostly hydro-electric so renewable anyway, but we feel better knowing we're doing our bit to reduce our footprint.
I've seen a couple of dozen other houses with solar panels, and many EVs, Leafs, lots of Teslas of course, Konas, and now we have Bolt I'm spotting them around too - observational bias.

A used one came up when we were considering changing our second vehicle. I fully endorse what you have said about the MG5. Perfect? No, but incredible value for money. Search James and Kate EV to get an interesting review.

Reply from the 1% minority 😂. Yeah I miss the floaty suspension of my CRV. Interesting to hear the MG5 similarly wafty. We have the MG4 and the ride is a bit harsh in my view and also lots of suspension noise inside the cabin. Very quick and handles great. I think I'm of a similar age whereby I would prefer more waftyness. I chose the base model mg4 when they first came out when new and second hand prices were silly. Got a silly price for my 2019 petrol car, so not much more to go full electric. Aside from the harsh ride the car is excellent and has saved me wedge in fuel. Would not have bought the higher models in the range just don't think they are worth the extra. Seems a great second hand purchase that mg5.

Spend only what you need to in order to do the job you need it to do, replace it when it no longer serves it's purpose and get another which will. If you had a Tesla MY, you would quickly stop using the MG, because you’d be spoiled by the clear best.

You might be right. At 3-4 times the price, it should be a lot better!

@ even a 2nd hand MY (much less now) would be the same effect. Also, way better than more expensive German electric cars not as good.

@@Lawrence7of9 I was referring for a like for like comparison, a used model Y is at least 3 times the price of a used MG5.
I wouldn't be surprised if a Model Y was in our future. With the small wheels, up sized tyres and maybe the soft suspension kit that's now available 🤔

Auto trader of all places. I set up a favourite search so that it emailed me the results daily. Once that one came in, I jumped immediately. Knocked £500 off the asking price too because I'm cheeky.
Bought from a dealer who has taken it as P/X and clearly wanted it gone quick as he had a forecourt of expensive Range Rovers and other SUVs

@@UpsideDownFork Well... I have four children so became convinced that one car to drive all six around was best. But what I would give for all these new cars to be a bit more old fashioned and let the driver actually drive rather than bleeping and tugging the steering wheel every 5 seconds... very interesting on the narrow middle lane of the M27 roadworks right now!

I will comment. Given you both have confessed to dangerous driving past & present & you have family, maybe you want to consider your attitude to driving & getting those driver aids & not rely on tarmac & nice friendly police officers of old. I have gone for the driver aids, not cos I am a hypocrite of you or your video but if I can save a life, by the car helping me, then that is a good thing for everyone, IMO. I recommend a DAC & videoing your own driving & critiquing yourselves & others on a regular basis to stay sharp. I won't Subscribe on the basis of your actions. thumb drop

I guess I'm a bit unrepentant. Over 20 years of driving without ever having had a point on my license or an accident.
Since having kids I am typically the slowest, most cautious driver, mostly setting the cruise control and leaving plenty of distance between me and other cars.
Sorry if you got the impression of us being dangerous drivers from this video.
