- This video explains how to use document properties in Microsoft Word to automate inputs. Doc properties. The tutor explains how you can use doc properties to automate data input in a Word document. The document properties can be found in the Info area in Word's backstage view or through the Insert Quick Parts option. You can create new doc properties and insert those anywhere in your document or just modify the existing ones. The tutor covers how to add and modify doc properties through the Info view. The tutor also explains that once a property is changed every reference to it changes also.

Cool video, easy way to do it
Sure is
I will use this
Good to know
Good for forms
Yes it is
Hello, I wan tto create an Advance Property as you did with "Test" but use it as you did with other document properties (May be able to change it as a box)
sorry not sure what you mean here
a good one.
thanks
Very helpful video! thanks very much for making this.
I have added a couple of custom document properties for my template report however they don't seem to behave like the ones that are in the quick parts/ document properties menu.
Is there a way of doing this or do i have to just accept that my linked text boxes have weird names?
Not that I know
@@ITsEasyTraining1st I figured it out. You can edit the properties of your document properties using Design Mode in Developer Tools. You can also colour code your repeating text which is nice.
@@Seanvstherobots Great
@@Seanvstherobots Hi, can you explain detailed please?
Hi.
Its possible to save document properties in a external file and have it replicated in several word files?
you can save it in a template and do that
@@ITsEasyTraining1st it's trickier. And I didn't explained myself. The issue is:
I have a internal process for which I have several (different) documents. Every time a new process begins it has a different number, title, manager, budget, department, begging date and deadline (and much more info). I need a way (like an external file) that I fill with this particular data that each word document will "drink" from... (Ps sorry for my bad English, hope you understand my issue)
Great lesson. I've spent hours on doc properties without much joy. At the start of document I want to have a document property, ie TT that has a dropdown box with 3 options. When an option is selected I want that option to update every instance of TT in the document including the header, footer etc. Is this actually possible and if so how do I do it?
Glad it was helpful!, I am not sure about the list option. Try it
@@ITsEasyTraining1st I have tried everything and can't get it to work. Is this actually possible to do this? and if it is would you let me know how. If it's a training module that's fine, I just need to know how to get it to work.
I can't get this to work. When I insert the docProperty, it just pastes the contents of the property. The bounding box and flyout above the text never shows up.
Even going into designer mode, it just pasts text and doesn't show any of the field tags associated with the docProperty.
For context, I have designed a business card and duplicated it to fill the page for 10 cards per page. I have a background image and 5 properties: Name, Position, email, office number and cell number. all the properties are in textboxes.
I even tried duplicating what you've done and it just pastes the contents without the bounding box or tags, like you get when you paste or change anything. nothing changes anywhere else in the document. F9 doesn't even cause updates.
There is an actual feature to create personal business cards without using doc properties. Just create labels and then print them to card it should be easier.
@@ITsEasyTraining1st I was trying to create a template that I can send to 50+ non-technical staff members so they can enter their own details and still meet the requirements of our style guide. I mean... going to each cell and pressing F9 is too technical for a select few and I need to cover those edge cases.
I was hoping for the same method that the default MS business card templates use, where typing into one field (Name, address, etc) will populate the same field in all the other cards simultaneously.
I ended up using just one card and writing a vba script instead, attaching it to "double click here when done editing card" text in one of the other card cells. It just iterates over all the cells and pastes whatever is copied from cell(1,1).
I am sorry I am not sure what to do here
Is this possible on Word for Mac?
I don't know but a lot of Word's normal functionality is not available on a Mac, you would have to try
cool
thanks
Hello, how to edit the properties permanently? Or how to change company name? When i change on the current document, the new document still with the old company name. I want to change it permanently
You could try and add the properties to the Normal template or create a template and use that
I can put the doc properties in, but I cannot get it to update like in your video if I type in text. For example, if one of my properties is machine number and I changed that machine number in one instance in the document, the rest do not update like it shows in the video. You have to manually update each instance?
Did you try the F9 key, to update fields
never used this
Thanks
