For an unreadable preview window, a solution might be to select through the Quick Part options being considered and use Ctrl-Z to clear and try another QP until you find the right one. Not too elegant.
Excellent Tip Deborah. I have a suggestion. at 7:54 you could sabe the new block on the Nomal.dotm. and to prevent that template be erased by mistake. you could create a back up of that template (original). To do that you could go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates That path could vary depending on your configuration. But the important thing is that you could save all your settings there in NORMAL.dotm and have a backup. that way if by any chance is damaged or delete, you use your backup and overwrite the one corrupted. In order to do that. WORD must be closed first. Thank you very much. (Sergio, Oruro, Bolivia)
Hi Deborah. I really don't understand the difference between AutoText and Quick Parts even though I've used both. This video was very instructional. Thank you.
Excelent video and clearly explained. Was wo dering though, when to differentiate between singular and plural, can’t there be a list of words that can change anywhere in the document from singular to plural by a dropdown selection. Meaning that if from a dropdown plural is selected, all the words from a list are changed, so return becomes returns, defendant becomes defandants etc etc. Saves you making a dropdown for every word. Curious if this would be a possebility.
If you redo this, you might want to title it creating a form (letter) with building blocks, autotext,. and fields. I generally avoid the Quick Parts Gallery just because it so easily becomes cluttered. I suppose the same can be said of AutoText or any other gallery.
Hi Deborah: Thank you so much for the excellent video. I am interested in saving larger blocks of text in quick parts that cover the same subject but may be two or three paragraphs in length. Each quick part would describe a different scenario within a limited subject matter, such as different kinds of visitation schedules for children. In the past, the preview window of the quick part was so small it was impossible to read. Has that changed? Is there a better solution than a preview window? How do you suggest handling larger blocks of text that might be 2 or 3 paragraphs? Thank you again. You are the best
Ms. Savadra: I was working on a new template that I wanted to incorporate a dropdown menu using certain quickparts, so I went back to your Quick Parts vs. Auto text class. After "moving" certain quickparts into a specific category and completing my template, I decided to look at my autotext entries. I have autotext entries in the normal-lightning bolt autotext area and autotext in the quickparts area. My autotexts in the quickparts area do not operate like the lightning bolt autotexts, e.g., typing four letters does not make them pop up! Do you have any idea what I have done incorrectly with my quickparts categorized as autotext? If there is another video, please direct me to that video. Thanks! stigler
I want to create a custom letter consisting of two names (a recipient name and a staff member name), an email address of the recipient, and one or more descriptive but standard paragraphs. I want to send the letter as a PDF file to the recipients email address. I would have hundreds of recipients & their emails saved in an excel file. Can you help? This has been a problem for me for many years!
I believe doing something fancy with mail merge would be the way to go. I'm not certain if it'll get you 100% of the way there, but I know mail merge can create a whole bunch of copies of a letter and read an excel table for the names/addresses. You should be able to find a lesson on youtube to walk you through the steps by steps.
Hii, is it possible to write the date in the format that I want and then save it as a template, so whenever I use the template again, I get the current date in my format?
Yes - see legalofficeguru.com/four-dates-embed-word-documents/ and ruclips.net/video/xGGqInvkgiY/видео.html (obviously, on the latter, you don't have to jump through all the "ordinal" hoops if that's not the format you want).
Deborah, excellent teaching!! It’s clear, practical, neat, very well structured and explained.
Thank you!!
Deborah, you've done it again! I love learning new things. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks - thank you!
This was terrific, this is exactly what I was after for some of my legal documents. Thank you

Glad it was helpful!
Both Quick Parts and AutoText are Building Blocks. Quick Parts are not avaliable on the Mac.
I knew that there was an easier way to create a dropdown menu! Thanks!!!
You're welcome!
I will need to watch this several more times
Thanks

Hi Deborah,
Can a template created on my system generate the same quick parts if I try it in some other system?

Great tips that I will use immediately at work! Thank you!
This is extremely complicated for something this basic
Quick Parts and AutoText are _intermediate_ level skills. Sorry you found the explanation lacking.
when explaining topics you always start with basic stuff and the user itself can decide where to incorporate this
