And just when I thought it couldn't get any better......it does!!!! Keep up the good work Dave. Cheers, Bob
i like how you do your rick work, and that you explain it very well,, turns out great, super update,, thanks for sharing, and we change our minds as soon as we think we have made our minds up. lol, THAT'S PART OF THE HOBBY I THINK
You have to be careful to have at least a strong idea of the foundation of what you intend to build though.
I've seen too many layouts where the builder only had a vague idea, and then ended up ripping up track because they changed their mind later.
Another excellent update Dave. Keep up the good work.
I am so grateful to you. I travel globally with work and live in rental homes.. so a railway layout isn't ever something I could consider having, but would love to. I watch many RUclips videos on the subject and subscribe to a few including yours.
I live my model railway hobby, vicariously through your channel and find it a wonderful way to spend my time and plan a the layout of my dreams, sometime soon when I finally retire.
Hi, thank you so very much for your kind words. For you to live your hobby through my layout is humbling. I hope you continue to enjoy my videos and I am sure you'll get that railway room built some day! Dave
Coming along nicely your brick work technique is amazing and love the look of the mounds going up by the incline keep up the good work.
I am always inspired by your attention to detail. Rob
Lovely video nice to see you working on the layout you work so methodically, looking very good those retaining walls look so good, keep it up it's very entertaining,
Your opening shot and closing shot look so real. You do have a good eye for detail. Thanks for the embankment and wall tips.
Barry. Devon.
Hi, Barry, appreciate you saying that. I do like a good camera angle! ;-) Cheers. Dave
Another well thought out and executed video. Well done.
Brilliant video again dave looking great the details you show in your videos amazing cannot wait to see the next update apart from that the layout is top class excellent
Hi Dave
Great update, the embankment looks great, all the hard work really pays off.
Nice 50 too
Cheers
Paul
Dave the progress is looking great, you always impress with you attention to detail. Your also giving me lots of ideas with the bridge construction for my layout, hope you don't mind if I do the odd spot of plagiarising with girder bridge constitution. I really enjoy seeing how the layout is progressing. We see lots of detail in close focus shots but it would be great to have a few wider angled views showing the panorama of layout on a larger scale. Looking forward to the next video.
As always mate, the attention to detail is brilliant.
Loving the progress looking awesome. Also I can see a nice cathedral and graveyard sight fitting in that corner as well hehe just to throw another idea out there. Metcalf makes a very nice one and I think Scalescenes not sure there
Great update, looking good!
Truly amazing work Dave, looking forward to April. Cheers, David.
fantastic layout and great detail.thanks for sharing
Hi you're welcome! Dave
Great video as always Dave. Didn't realise you had so many class 50. Reason I am commenting is after watching this video down the side with recommended videos was your very first one from 2012. I have previously said how your station reminded me of Edinburgh Waverley looking down from the signal box end. I honestly had not seen the video where you said that was what you were modelling it on so (probably unsurprising to you) you have certainly got the look. Coming on well with the layout and detail as usual is 2nd to none. all the best you are doing a great job.
Hi Alan, I think I mentioned it long long ago lol. But thanks for saying you think it captures the look. I love playing trains through the tunnels etc and when the town scene on the top of the tunnels is done it will hopefully look even better. Cheers and thanks for your support of my channel too. Dave
I find you video's very useful, starting to built a new layout soon, your videos will help me a lot.
Cheers
Dave
Thanks Dave, really nice of you to say that. Appreciate it. Dave
Phoar! You have been busy Dave! Just been catching up on your videos this evening. I’d been looking forward to how you were going to tackle the more rural areas. The retaining walls look very realistic and I can appreciate the amount of time they must have taken to build. Certainly worth the all the effort.
Look forward to seeing the caravan park develop. How about giving it a name like ‘Paradise Island’ or something to that effect so the visitors know they are in for a budget camping experience :)
Cheers…..
Hi Richard, Good to hear from you. Yeah I have been busy...really sick of building walls now though!! They have taken me months of planning, building and painting! Will be glad to get on to the scenic stuff! Cheers. Dave
Excellent as always Dave, look forward to more of the same.Cheers John.
Nice vid, loving the layout!
This is stunning. Well done that man! Love the shot at 6:20 :)
Another impressive presentation.
looks great,i always look forward to your updates.
Unbelievably informative and well presented Dave....As an aside, I've just noticed after all this time that you're left handed, which probably explains your passion for getting everything right. One point that did cross my mind watching all the walls you've constructed to date Dave, is that such walls to tend to have bleeding of the old mortar in streaks down parts of the structure. Having said that, you'll probably get away with not doing it, as your layout is set not that long ago.....Regards...Bob
Yes, I'm a lefty! We are apparently creative and artistic! Barrack Obama and David Cameron were also lefties....I am in famous company you know! lol
Brilliant again😎🎨👍
Progressing along very good ...Dave
Great layout Dave.
Some more great progress on that end of the layout. The brick retaining walls are looking good. Even if you do go with the static caravans on the corner (I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure! ;-)) you have to use that house under construction somewhere - it's a great wee model in its own right. Cheers.
Hi, it will be used in another corner...think the house is a great item! Might buy a few more if I can find them. They do a 2 storey house too. Old releases from bachmann, but still available if you look. Dave
Found a couple on ebay. Wonder how much they cost when they're finished?!
Great update Dave
The retaining wall looks great. I would go with the trailer park, I don't know too many people wanting to build a new house next to the tracks.
I think your walling looks excellent throughout and really imposing. It looks really convincing. Just wondered what you thought about adding weeds and vines down the walls aswell to maybe add age to it to.
That paint at 5:06 looks a bit like the curry we used to get at secondary school back in the late 70s, sir! Probably tastes better too.
I think it looks like something else.....the curry after its been through my digestive system! lol Dave
Oh shit!
Mabey you could put a warehouse with chimney stacks where whisky barrels are charred and have a barrel pile if you want to know what I mean it was on full steam ahead BBC last year you could put it somewhere in the corner.
Hi Dave. only 3 years late to this one lol.... was wondering how you constructed your tunnel portal with this retaining wall?.. looks fab and exactly what i need to build..is there a video showing the construction of them at all?
it all look very good to me. i am just geting started on my setup i am 56 and just starting is it good ????
Great update. Another Class 50 fiend. I managed to get 'Sir Edward Elgar' a while ago, new & unused.
yeah thats a lovely loco....see them on ebay quite a bit....never been tempted yet! lol. Dave
Hi Dave,
Nice update, you have really been getting on with it. I'm surprised you managed to get all that brickwork painted so fast but it is looking the part now. I think the caravan park will be interesting, You don't see many of them on layouts. Cheers, Michael
great to have the trains running between the talky bits!
Dave, I've been watching your videos for about 7 months now and I am always amazed at your layout. Great work on the entire layout. I'm just getting into ballasting and scenery so I'm watching as much as I can. I notice metal under you track nearest the camera, can you explain briefly? Enjoy the train action between segments, your videos are always shot very well. I'm glad I subscribed back then and followed your progress. Thank you for sharing and will be looking forward to more, Much Respect
Cheers D. Muse WTCMRR
Hi, thanks for the comment. The metal under the rail is DCC Concepts Power base....see video number 89. Dave
Okay, cool! Never seen that before, will check out the video. Cheers
Hi Dave! Enjoyed watching your video as always. I'm building a N-scale layout myself. I've got one question: why did you move away from the scalescene walls, if you don't mind asking?
Hi, thanks. Not moved away from them forever....I just fancied testing my skills on plastic card. Scalescenes stuff is brilliant and will be used again! There is a large town scene to build at the other end....no doubt scalescenes stuff will feature there. I decided to move away from the Scalescenes walls however just to vary things a bit.
Not so keen the caravan idea but with the building been built makes it look good you have 2 features in one and makes sense to size been small maybe that's the caravan pub bar event centre
I thought the camera angles for the running clips need a mention. Give a very realistic look.
Hi Greg I try to vary the angles....some neat shots can be achieved by just mucking about with the camera on the tripod. Cheers for mentioning that. Dave
Great video Dave, you are certainly cracking on with things. Could I ask you where you got the electricity sub-station items from at the end of the video?
Michael
Hi, those are parts from the Hornby Scaledale sub station kit. This is no longer in proudctions. BUT....I have a solution. www.shapeways.com/product/FAALDL4GR/ht-transformer-substation?optionId=61731256
I ordered these. They arrived within 3 days, from the USA. They are good and well made. I will be using them on my next substation.
Hello Dave, thanks for the link, those look pretty good, I'm looking forward to seeing them on your layout.
Michael
nice up date , as always good to see progress. Just one piont are you scotish ? its only monney coment lol, keep up the good work pete
Scottish, what ever gave you that idea? lol
Didn't just get 37025 recently from EBay did you?
yup....why were you the other bidder who pushed up the price? lol Dave
I stopped at £160 before it went crazy lol. Nice to see it on a great layout though!
ah geez thanks lol....you cost me a fortune lol.
