As a Yamaha Fan I agree with those two fantastic choices of course. But there is one kit missing in the lineup here - the Yamaha PHX Series Drums. Their top of the line flagship kit. I'm lucky to own a PHX kit and it's such an amazing drumkit to play, hear & to look at.

I think that absolute hybrids are as good for rock as the recording customs. They are maple which is most common wood on drums and have die cast hoops for more durability. They also have better mounting system.
When you line up the world's top drum companies, Tama, Yamaha, Pearl, Gretsch, DW, Ludwig, etc you will find that they are all very similar in quality and sound. The only real difference is in the hardware they all use. You cannot say that one company alone is better than another. It is purely down to one's own taste. For me that is Tama but for another that is Gretsch, etc.
