    It took me literally YEARS to really understand the entire plot of the series once I'd finished all the games. I had to go on GameFAQs, TVTropes and other gaming websites where other people had painstakingly gathered every scrap of information on decades-old games to truly get the scope of Legacy of Kain.
    But while the story is incredibly rich and deep, the one thing that sets LoK apart from other games in my book is the DIALOGUE. The utterly, positively, unendingly awesome dialogue.

  • @nothri

    Raziel: I have found the HEART OF DARKNESS!

    Strangely, at about a minute in, Kain shoulda literally interrupted and said "Raz, why are you behaving like some idiot less than a century old?"
    Mighta been fun to watch raz cotton on and be like 'OHHH the Hylden are pissing me off somehow hmmmm'

  • @Joudas
    @Joudas  14 лет назад +4

    @masterermac He definitely knew some things - and he does specifically say "Janos must stay dead", but it's plausible that he only knew enough to give that warning, and didn't know the exact chain of events. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been wondering about the murals in the forges, for instance, and he wouldn't have been surprised when he wasn't dead after Raziel stole the heart, or when he found Moebius at the end.

  • @Katalmach
    @Katalmach 13 лет назад +6

    2:43 I have never noticed Raziel's eyes before at this moment.Their glow looks distinctly like the glow of Mortanius when he is being possessed by the Hylden. Could the Hylden be subtly manipulating Raziel here? They have been shown to take control of cadavers and Raziel is one, albeit one with a strong will.

  • @Joudas
    @Joudas  14 лет назад +3

    @masterermac Clearly Kain didn't foresee every event exactly as it happened, or he'd have known Raziel would kill him in the Avernus Cathedral (and judging by his facial expression and reaction after the fact, he is genuinely surprised by this) - he also claims Raziel has free will, and has no reason to lie about this - suggesting that his actions were unforeseeable. It's assumable then that he might not have known enough to give a good warning - and make Raziel believe him.

  • @gilesluver
    @gilesluver 16 лет назад +3

    "You must trust me, Raziel!"
    To which, I think Raz's response should be "WHY?" Kain hardly has given Raziel much reason to trust him.

  • @MasterTalon
    @MasterTalon 17 лет назад +2

    You gotta remember, Raziel is being pushed by the Hilden, the green flamey eye effect you see from time to time, like for Turel. 'Cause usually Raz ain't a laughing guy.

    @Joudas and we're still missing any story that occurred during raziel's tenure in the abyss. imagine having to invade the razielim clan territory, where all your enemies have wings... imagine the replay value in a game where you can play as any one of the five surviving brethren.

  • @terak4786

    All I can think is, like so many other situations, this entire encounter could have gone smoother if people just TALKED.
    If Kain EXPLAINED why Janos needed to stay dead, Raziel might actually have listened.

    • @mgh7634
      @mgh7634 4 года назад +2

      I doubt it. Kain was trying to talk. He was trying to reason with Raziel. Raziel in this scene is being influenced/ nigh-possessed by the Hylden, on top of his already existing anger and feelings of helplessness. And because of that, everything Kain was saying Raziel was distrusting and twisting as reason to fight. He went in there to kill Kain and nothing else. And it didn't hit him that he'd made a grave mistake until afterwards, until after "the madness of this place" subsided.

    • @Teixas666
      @Teixas666 3 года назад

      He tried to, the whole cutscene was Kain Attempting ot Reason with Raziel as to avoid having them fight. RAziel however was having none of it, due ot his encounter with turel and what transpired after he wasnt on the right mindset ot talk(plus he had a number of voices of hism ind going " KILL KAIN he is Trying ot GET YOU 1ST")

    Remember that Raziel was at that moment prey to the Hylden residing within him. They were the ones who made him heedless and quadruplicated his impulsiveness and rage. I found the laughter nothing more than a representation of how terrible their influence was on him. That is why, when Kain was defeated, he couldn't feel any satisfaction for his winning the battle. It was not his true intention to win. D.R.

    It's too bad that Raziel here is basically an ass. Kain obviously shows concern for Raziel and it's obvious that he had no intention of kill Raziel, yet Raziel takes a cheap shot as Kain is left off guard. Well, at least it makes Kain look more like a bad ass when he returns even without a heart.

    I must say that this is one of the best scenes of the game. Think about it- why would Kain have such high hopes of Raziel when you think that he tossed Raziel into the abyss before? And the line "You are the only unbound creature. You.. have..a..chooice!!"-absolutely amazing and brilliant!!

  • @Joudas

    I believe she said it was because he was the Scion of Balance, not because he was the Balance Guardian. I think the intention was that if Raziel had stabbed him with the Reaver, he'd be truly dead (as Kain says, 'You bear the only weapon that can kill me').

    Kain and Raziel, the two mesias of this game fight each other for death

  • @Joudas
    @Joudas  15 лет назад

    Losing in either battle nets you a 'game over' equivalent - you technically have to win as Kain to trigger the cut scene with Raziel and begin the second half of the fight. If Raziel defeats you in the fight, you're loading your last checkpoint.

  • @Joudas
    @Joudas  14 лет назад

    @masterermac "...but Kain's warning was lost as I slipped into the spirit realm..." - He could have recited the rest of the story word for word, Raziel wouldn't have heard it, as he was too weak to maintain his physical form at the time.

    It's also quite an awesome mechanic - you've got to realize that the game up till this point has Kain and Raziel separated in time by 500 years - yet they both see the signs that this is their destiny. The switch mid-fight, too, is fantastic - just when you think you know who the victor is, suddenly, you realize you were very wrong.

  • @Serpentotia
    @Serpentotia 16 лет назад

    True, but in these cutscenes it looks alot like the Spectral Reaver.
    Someone suggested on another LoK vid that when Raziel absorbed Turael, he was posessed by many weak Hylden spirits(not one strong one, like Mortanius). They increased his TK abilities but also interfered with his reasoning initially. That may explain the green-ness of the Reaver and of Raziel's eyes during the fight with Kain. I suspect Raziel stayed in control soon afterwards, which is why the green eyes never come up again.

  • @Joudas
    @Joudas  17 лет назад

    Surely you mean the Hylden, not the Sarafan - the Sarafan were the ancient vampire hunters (of which Raziel was a prominent member). The Hylden are the vampires' ancient enemy, banished to the Demon Realm, their prison sealed with the creation of the pillars.

  • @Joudas
    @Joudas  14 лет назад

    @absorbuse But Defiance is clearly not the end of the story - Janos has been possessed by the Hylden Lord and is running rampant. This is huge - how can you suggest this is the end? Chronologically, it is parts of SR2, parts of Defiance, Blood Omen 1, Blood Omen 2, parts of SR2, Parts of SR1, Parts of SR2 - because of all the timetravel. Storyline-wise, BO2 concludes the story, with the defeat of the Hylden Lord and the destruction of the Device / the gateway to the demon dimension.

  • @jermzhi
    @jermzhi 14 лет назад

    The only thing left to resolve is how Kain decides to deal with the Hylden...which is no forgone conclusion. The Hylden weren't bad until the ancient vampires started the war with them at the behest of the Elder God. If they are just victims like everyone else, and the pillars were erected to keep them banished, whos to say that Kain tries to banish them again knowing that they arent the true guilty party. There is a big piece of the prophecy missing.

  • @theevilgood
    @theevilgood 15 лет назад

    actually, Kain's "dancing around the truth" makes sense contextually, and later on in the story. He's speaking of the Hylden, who we are introduced to in Blood Omen 2. Basically, these games' plots have no meaning without knowledge of the plots before them

  • @Calthir
    @Calthir 13 лет назад

    @masterermac We don't really have any proof that he never explained the events of Blood Omen 2...For all we know, he could've told Raziel EVERYTHING about what happens, including his beloved Umah, and he still wouldn't hear it.
    To quote Joudas, "But Kain's warning was lost as I slipped into the spectral realm--".

  • @Joudas
    @Joudas  14 лет назад

  • @irkentrad
    @irkentrad 14 лет назад

    @albertwesker471 Nothing changes simply because you travel back or forward in time in these games, because it was meant to happen according to the timeline. The only occasion anything goes awry is when you perform a paradox. Kain and Raziel have done just that three times in the course of the series (murdering William the Just, refusing to kill Kain, preventing Raziel to enter the Reaver) and that caused near-catastrophic distortion as History tries to accommodate the anomaly.

  • @RInger2875
    @RInger2875 15 лет назад

    I get that they want to surprise the player, who does not yet know, so they have Kain speak in riddles to keep us in suspense. But there is no reason, character-wise, why Kain couldn't just say what he knew. Yeah, Raziel might not have believed him, but he could have at least TRIED.
    There's a term which Roger Ebert uses a lot for when characters stupidly dance around saying something, purely for the sake of moving the plot forward. It's called the Idiot Plot.

  • @fedykin87

    Actually Moebius didn't tell him anything, Kain figured it all out using the Chronoplast Chamber he admits it int he SR2 opening and through it he has learned of their history including the original timestream where raziel kills all vampires in SR1 and changed it into what it is now as part of his gamble to recover their destinies and revive the pillars.
