@wayne62682 nonono. Turel was brought by Lady Azimuth the Planer, Matriarch of Avernus and Guardian of the Pillar of Dimension. Just like Kain mentions back in Blood Omen 1, she liked to summon exotic creatures not only from other dimensions, but from other times too. And what's possesing Turel is three different Hylden, that managed to enter Nosgoth using Turel as a "durable vessel". The Hylden Lord was currently inside Mortanius.
for me this is so sad, like Turel is just a prisoner forever, like it seemed to actually see and hear raziel made him happy, as he doesnt even want to fight raziel till he is possessed
I always got the feeling that Raziel and Turel were probably close. Even in Soul Reaver 1, he seems to take a more pitying stance to killing Morlock (the Turellim you get the force push from), and there is a deleted scene where Raziel says "Let me pass, Turel. I have enough blood on my hands today." In the scene, he pleads with Turel to let him pass so he doesn't have to kill him.
I mean usually siblings close in age are the tightest and seeing as they’re the oldest it’d make sense but interesting considering titles the one who casted him in to the abyss
Well at this point he's no longer seething with righteous fury against all vampirekind anymore, which was the primary reason he murdered his other siblings. This Raziel might not have been so quick to kill them.
5:02 "No more questions, no more worship. Time to run. Time to scream. Time...to diiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeee." That is my favorite line in the entire series xD
Huh. I didn't get the feeling that he ever liked Malchiah. After he discovered that it was Malchiah he was talking to, he seemed even MORE revolted to me. XD Rahab he seemed more or less interested in the fact he just learned they were once Sarafan, too. Only with Turel is there any real shred of regret for having to kill a brother, in my opinion.
GEhotpants101 what's interesting is that in the cut dialog between Raziel and Turel in Soul Reaver, Raziel expresses regret at killing his brothers and how he'd rather not have to kill Turel. Interesting to see how they seemed to carry that over, if even only subtley.
Nosgoth lore states that only Rahab actually regretted Raziel demise, but did nothing about that anyway. Turel and Dumah never doubted Kain's order and Zephon\Melchiah were too busy squabbling over Razielim' riches.
@dskull2000 Yes, and if you played the games, Kain would never really transform because he was pure. He was resurrected by the Necromancer Mortanius who used the very heart of Janos Audron, the oldest vampire ever. That and the fact that he was the Scion of Balance. I don't know what would've happened to Raziel, but he might have been the most advanced since he had past up the others in evolution and he was the first born. The thing is, that as Kain created more "offspring," the weaker they got.
@dskull2000 Kain's "children" inherited his taint when they were made, and this "copy" of it caused their de-evolutions into the creatures Raziel kills. Thankfully for Raziel, he was cast into the Abyss and "killed" before the transformation could overcome him - otherwise he'd have turned out like the rest.
I dont quite think so... I think that Raziel had already evolved by the time he was thrown into the abyss... remember? The wings... Kain threw him in on a jealous whim... Raziel was first born of his brethren thats why he was the first emerged with a gift... though his bretheren received the gift too but not quite how they would have imagine it...

After the Hylden take control of Turel, he seems to momentarily forget who Raziel is (and the fact that he's bloodless) and goes after him in a desperate attempt to strengthen himself. And after he dies, he seems to ask Raziel to end his torment in more or less the manner Melchiah did.
he didn't kill turel...turel was posesed by the hylden, and when turel came to the end of his stringht, they left his body and killed him. You don't see raziel kill turel, u just see spirits talk and leave his body, and enter raziels(look at his eyes)...
Technically, there was no vamprism xD They were Vampires to begin with. They cursed them with the blood thirst, sterility and immortality. Damn powerful curse, that.
He was the Hylden champion in that he resurrected Janos, which would (without Kain's intervention) have heralded the revenge of the Hylden race. He enabled their potential victory.
Yes we do - look again. When Raziel walks towards his own crypt, it shows a view from in front of him, with him walking towards the camera and the camera pointed at the door - to the left of the door is Turel's crypt.
The Hylden were an ancient race who battled the Ancients (blue skin with wings) but were defeated. The Ancients then banished them to the demon realm but just before that the Hylden cursed them with vampirism.
When i watched this and realized what it meant it sent shivers down my spine, i remember a level on Blood Omen 1 where you fight your way through Avernus Cathedral as Kain, such an epic story.
Believe or not, Turel was voiced by Greg Burger. He's more famous for doing the voices of "The Pain" in Metal Gear Solid 3 and "Jecht" in Final Fantasy X.
He gains the mind blast / reaver bolt from the Turelim - but it's just that, a bolt. After he takes down Turel, he can actually manipulate objects beyond just smacking them, which he couldn't do before. (example: picking up, holding, and throwing enemies)
Yes - enhanced telekinesis. Until he takes down Turel, he's unable to do any more with his TK then he could previously with the Reaver Bolt. Afterwards, his is as fully functional as Kain's.
@Joudas If i remember correctly it was Azimuth (guardian of dimensions) who summoned Turel.... aka she broke into Moebius's time streaming portal and took him from his time.
Raziel was killed before the corruption could change him as it did the others. We can assume that if he had not been thrown into the abyss, he would have become horribly mutated, too.
Truly the greatest acting in a game series, ever. LoK had amazing talent on it's side, something that most games are only now starting to have more and more.
@Throrine Actually, Azimuth the human Guardian of the Pillar of Dimension summoned Turel from the future (The Soul Reaver 1 era) using the time streaming device that she stole from Moebius.
After reading about and fighting Hash'Ak'Gik in Blood Omen, and hearing rumors throughout the other games, it was really amazing to finally see him. That amazement was only compounded by the fact that he was 'the one that got away,' last of Raziel's brothers. I felt sorry for Turel, but not enough so to let such a great game go to waste. Thanks for uploading this video. It brings back great memories.
@jakespnl463 He's not blind but he IS partially sighted (as confirmed in Prima's official guide). His sight was failing while his other senses got stronger (kinda like how Rahab gained a resistance to water at the cost of becoming vulnerable to sunlight), probably cause he's been in the dark so long.
Gregg Berger voiced Turel. He also played Jecht in Final Fantasy X, Ripto and Hunter in the Spyro the Dragon Series and Captain Blue in the Viewtiful Joe series.
He gives Raziel the ability to use telekinesis. (Previously he is only able to blast enemies such as the Reaver Bolt provided, after this encounter he can pick them up, hold them, and throw them around like Kain can.)
i remember that bit, me an my brother couldnt help laugh cos it was like: raziel casually taking spikes out duma's body and when he gets up it was more or less like "Oh no u dont" and goodbye Duma
I have a theory, Kain may have saw the original version of the events of SR1 played out at the Chronoplast (as in everything that was cut in the final game) and he purposely sent Turel to the past to prevent it.
@SergioSource well I did read in a magazine article from Game Informer: They were discussing the flow of remakes for the new systems, from devil may cry's reboot to a handful of others... They discussed a top 10 list choice of games that "Should" in all fairness get a crack at the new hardware we got cooking... and Legacy of Kain, was # 5. Personally with that in mind, I think a nice re-vamp of Soul Reaver, or a fresh Blood Omen RPG style game, OH those would be off the chain for sales for sure!
My favorite brother, even though he only had a short moment in the game, was Rahab. I even have his Clan symbol on my shoulder blade. I've always been close to the water.. and something about him attracted me. So, I've stuck with it ever since. XD
I didn't mind Mortanius having a different voice actor, but his design here doesn't match his Blood Omen 1 appearance. He looked more intimidating in that game.
I think if there'll be a new game to the series, it could explore the history of the Hylden. I realized that "blood" omen goes to Kain as main character, "soul" reaver goes to Raziel as main character. So maybe a title about "posession"-something to set the hylden lord as the main character. the plot could start with him still in hell, and then he escaping thru a portal after the corruption of the pillars. the time when he takes the body of William the Just (I think) and refound the Sarafan clan
The difference is that now Kain is uncorrupted and has knowledge about the elder god and his schemes. What would come after Defiance is BO2 but with a wiser Kain.
It's explained at the start of Soul Reaver that the Vampires created by Kain experience mutations as they age. These Vampires have been alive for thousands of years when Raziel fights them, so they've been mutating for a very long time.
Hash'Ak'Gik is the sarafan lord (Leader/General of the hylden race), who at the time was possesing Mortanius. He is also the black creature from BO1. What possesed turel were numerous other hylden.
This was one of the toughest bosses I ever faced. So hard to avoid him, always trying to avoid his TK blasts, and those gongs which only right now have I realized I can just TK blast them. All this time, i kept hitting them all in time with the reaver. As challenging as it was, this fight was also one of the best.
Raziel is indeed possessed by the Hylden, but not in the way in which Mortainius and Janos were. He was not possessed by one great spirit, but by many weak ones when he killed Turel. That is why, when the moment of the battle between Kain and him, he could not reason properly and just fought senselessly till he "killed" Kain. The Hylden made his anger impossible to bare for him. He said it when he sent Kain trough the portal, that something in that place made his anger even stronger. D.R.
So the gist of this, I believe, is that Turel's body is possessed by the Hylden Lord (green glowy eyes, changed voice), and the Hylden Lord is who summoned Turel from presumably the original Soul Reaver timeline (hence why he's not in that game).
raziel was just suprised to see turel there, but he DID want to kill him, just like he did the rest of his brothers. especially since turel was one of his brothers that bore him into the abyss
@LordAKiraAndou "To the past", "From the future" - same thing, really. To Turel, they summoned him to the past. To the cultists, they summoned him from the future.
in BO2, the hylden lord had ethier reclaimed his original body from the hylden prison/dimention, or made himself a new hylden body.this would have been right after he put janos (who he possesed at the end of defiance) into his prison to power the "device".
@Joudas wait wait how can that be turel if hes his mutated form which happens to all of raziels bretheren after hes thrown into the abyss? is there something im missing?
That aside, he DID have a sign of the corruption, first of all off them. The wings he grew that got him thrown into the Abyss in the first place were *HYLDEN* wings! As for what mutated and mutilated the Sarafan Vampires--Raziel and his brethren--Kain, in Legacy of Kain 2, drank the blood of the last living Hylden in the Eternal Prison, and that allowed the Hylden to steadily influence every vampire Kain sired after that point.
the Wings were a tell that kain picked up on since he had seen all the imagery the reason why all vampires Kain sired ended up corrupted was because of Nuprator madness infecting all of the guardians(and Kain a s the newly appointed Scion of balance as Nuprator went apeshit after finding Ariel's Body)
Exactly right. They didn't reveal themselves, rather inflaming his anger and making sure that anything Kain said would be taken the wrong way. That the Hylden were influencing and empowering Raziel was made clear when he cast Kain into the exile-realm the Hylden had been shunted into. It had to move then, inhabiting the Heart of Darkness--Janos Aldrin's heart--so that he would be possessed from the moment he was revived. Is it any wonder Janos was suicidal when he was restored in BO 2??
Why did turel's eyes and voice changed? i counted three voices, his,a lighter one and another one. I heard he was taken from kain's time period and hound into what you see now in the video and who are the champions?
And let us not forget Dumah - he was 'slain' centuries before Raziel returned, and so he was far less mutated than his brethren, as he had spent those centuries in the spiritual realm as a Wraith.
I just love the way he says "Ooooooh, it remembers THAT..." as in "Oh god, he loves to talk as much as Kain, we're gonna be here awhile..."
"No.. no more questions,no more worship
Time to run ,time to scream, time.. to die"
I can't get enough of that, the voice acting is amazing still

@technopixie96 plus after Legacy of Kain: Defiance even Soul Reaver 3 is impossible, isn't it?
@Edge73100 Oh but who are the 2 hyldens? and did raziel ever managed to get rid of the hylden?
in BO2, the hylden lord had ethier reclaimed his original body from the hylden prison/dimention, or made himself a new hylden body.this would have been right after he put janos (who he possesed at the end of defiance) into his prison to power the "device".
Every Kains vampire mutated in time because of corruption he carried since his birth.
Turel was probably summoned from the Soul Reaver era by Azimuth via her stolen timestreaming device.
As for what mutated and mutilated the Sarafan Vampires--Raziel and his brethren--Kain, in Legacy of Kain 2, drank the blood of the last living Hylden in the Eternal Prison, and that allowed the Hylden to steadily influence every vampire Kain sired after that point.
the Wings were a tell that kain picked up on since he had seen all the imagery
the reason why all vampires Kain sired ended up corrupted was because of Nuprator madness infecting all of the guardians(and Kain a s the newly appointed Scion of balance as Nuprator went apeshit after finding Ariel's Body)
this bit reminds me of a chapter i once read in "the calling of cthuluu"
Hash'Ak'Gik is the hylden/unspoken as they channel through turel. when his eyes glow thats the hylden channeling.
Is it any wonder Janos was suicidal when he was restored in BO 2??
i love turel he is awsome
No No more Questions
No more Worship
Time to Run
Time to Scream
Time.........To Die...
fucking love that line
This is one of my favorite scenes in Defiance and Turel is still the only character to genuinely creep me out.
Why did turel's eyes and voice changed? i counted three voices, his,a lighter one and another one. I heard he was taken from kain's time period and hound into what you see now in the video and who are the champions?
