Good Lord, 1993 was an incredible year. You could make an entire ballot with films and performances that missed the Oscar cut.

That’s the only way to watch it. El Mariachi was a terrible movie.

@@branagain I haven't seen it, but the clips from the various episodes in which they covered it sure don't entice me. Rodriguez's work has never been my bag, although "From Dusk Til Dawn" and "SIn City" do have strong elements.

If "Tombstone" had been screened for critics in 1993, there is no doubt in my mind that Roger would have promoted Val Kilmer for Best Supporting Actor in this episode. But I don't think they got around to seeing it until late January or early February, a couple of weeks after this was episode was filmed, and the deadline for nomination ballots had already closed.

For this year, I personally would've nominated Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey for cinematography, Rudy for original score, Groundhog Day for original screenplay, and (personal pick) Jeff Goldblum for Best Supporting actor in Jurassic Park. Denzel Washington definitely had a chance for a supporting actor nod in Philadelphia, but he was nominated for best actor the prior year for Malcolm X, so I can understand why he didn't get it.
