Man. I was just gifted a 98 Buick Regal GS Supercharged and I’m very happy with it. I plan on putting some money in it. Awesome ride. It looks brand new.
That's great! They really are neat cars. Be sure to check the intake manifold gaskets, that is the one urgent point you will need to address if it hasn't been done. Telltale sign is coolant in the pockets of the intake around bolts. Cheers.
If you plan on upgrading it make sure you do the headers before adding boost. Lots of people have burned up their engine pushing more boost than they can get rid of.
I love it man foreal. You did more to it then wat most people do... I totally think you were (unintentionally) downplaying just how good the car was as far as power, speed, and handling.
Hey thanks man! Yea we understated it a little, some people think if it isn't the Hellcat then it is nothing, but this thing is a solid sleeper for what it is. The only thing I think GM should have done stock was add the intercooler - it is about the best mod you can do to one of these; unlocks a lot of other power adding options once you get that IAT down.
I have a 2000 Buick Park Avenue (unfortunately not the supercharged model), but I plan on ricing it out with a spoiler, black bumpers and rims, 2 inch lift kit, rim spacers, and of coarse a glasspack exhaust
Holding on to my 2001 Buick Regal LS, Joseph edition.. 126xxx miles. I would like some upgrades, but I'm still unsure. At the moment, I have the dash resistor issue. Needing to be resoldered. :( And a touch-up paint job. Maybe some rims.

My dad bought it from an older lady and had maybe 70k miles on it years ago. Now has 178k. I took it over for free to give it some love and clean it up. Runs and drives good. I can't seem to even find a photo of an LSX Trim level. It's definatly not modified ether. My dad said the older lady special ordered it that way and didn't want the GS or GSX, but wanted the trim stuff and seats. I'm just wondering if SLP did stuff on LS Regals or was it only GS. I always have people ask me about the lsx badging and the seats and they think I swapped in a LS v8 😂😂 You don't see Regals that often anyways so Its kinda the cool car to just daily in your 30s and not even abuse.
Hello and thanks for checking us out. The info I have on that is that SLP did in fact support the non-supercharged Regals with both appearance and some performance mods. Perhaps I could dig further in my old records, but you could have badging/emblems/floormats/seat decals, a cold air intake, and a different exhaust system, all emissions legal, at the very least. Seems like I have an old brochure somewhere, I will have to look.
@@Baker3939 Sounds good. As time goes by it seems more difficult to get a clear read on that stuff. I was just given one of these by my father in law. Would love to do rebuild on it and give it back to him. Do you have a list of all the parts from ZZP you used. Would be greatly appreciated.
Sure, you will probably have the best result by emailing tim at zzperformance dot com and let him know your budget. He can put together a package that will be the best mix of parts for the money. You can kick them up quite a bit without a ton of cash!
Put in a shift kit, but had to drastically tweak shift schedules as the torque throws all the shift points wacky - would drop to 1st at 40mph before I fixed it all (using HP Tuners).
Hi, they are Enkei Russo, and 5 on 114.3mm and I used an aluminum hub-centric ring to make sure they centered up. Bought from Amazon seller 4Wheel online.
Hello! The heavy lifting is done by TOG 6 into 1 headers and downpipe with free flow cat, into a single 2 1/4" pipe with "turbo" type muffler and resonator (yes keep a resonator or they drone like crazy at cruising speeds!) Cheers!
You can do a Supercharger, but the LS4 swap would be pretty cool - I have not seen one myself, but the same vintage of cars had them in the '05 to '09 era, go for it!
Had a friend in high school who conned his parents into buying one of these, they thought it was just a boring sedan. After he got a 108mph speeding ticket they figured out it wasn't, it was sold a week later haha. BTW do these have an open differential? I read they have traction control via the PCM, but couldn't immediately find if they have an LSD.
That's a hilarious story man. There is a limited slip diff mod but you have to do a partial teardown to get to it (check ZZP). The motor sitting on the wheels mostly eliminates the need for an LSD. My fun car is a Hellcat (look for new vids soon), and a guy I work with also has one; we drive this very tight road to work and I was able to ride his butt all the way up the mountain. Not because this car is fast, but because with traction control off, I could just spin the inside tire and point the nose where I wanted, my buddy kept having to lift to not swap ends (and this road is a really steep, tight, twisty or he would've dusted me lol), and he has stock 275 all weathers on the car too. It's just a really hearty and reliable powertrain - not bad for 21 years old!
Pretty much all that was done is covered in the video except installing a shift kit in the transmission to firm up the shifts. We have not had the car on a dyno (tuned with an Innovate wideband & drive logs), but they made 240hp/280ft# torque stock - maybe 300+ hp in a 3500# car. Obviously without a real pull, that is pure speculation but I don't think its out of the park - the intercooler is a game changer for these cars though. Thx for checkin' it out!
Hello There, yes this was a Cali build. The intake was from SLP (street legal performance I think), and there are few left out there, and fewer CARB approved sticker that go with it. The headers were TOG (The Old/Other Guys if memory serves), and you may have better luck here - I think those are still available. I still suggest emailing Tim at ZZP for an idea of what your current options are on that package. Hope that helps you.
I remember those movies, but not that character; had to go look it up (The stress free apartment, et al), I kinda do sound like that in this video! Next time I could do my game show host voice: "It's a Brand New Car!" XD
What mods do you suggest doing first? I have an ‘02 regal gs Joseph abboud edition and I want to know what mods would be more cost effective? I was thinking suspension mods and then touch the blower afterwards
Wow you found a Joe? Nice. Replace the intake gaskets if they haven't been done - it's a must. Head over to ZZPerformance and get a new downpipe - the oem design has the pipe literally squished Flat under the car at the O2 sensor; check it out! The larger sway bars front and rear makes a big difference in the handling without altering the ride. Message me if you have some other questions, happy to help out.
XERyder well the car is in good shape and super low miles so that’s always a plus however could I just call a Buick dealer and see if they can change the gaskets since technically it’s a recall?
They may still cover it, and if not, they will certainly be familiar with the job. There are a couple of plastic coolant pipes they should change to Metal while they have that off!
Hello David, sorry I do not, and some of the good stuff is getting harder to find. Remember that some of the drivetrain parts be used from other platforms. Your best bet on performance parts is enlisting the help of the folks at ZZ Performance. They will not steer you wrong.
Sure! TOG jethot coated headers 1 5/8" primaries, matching TOG 3" catted downpipe, 2.5" single to a free flow resonator and muffler (branding of these escapes me right now).
Your wheels are the enkei lusso model right? What bolt pattern did you end up going with? Were they able to fit onto the stock bolt pattern size or did you have to get matching hubs as well?
Yea it's weird - Buick finished the car mid year and could not wait until the next model year to roll it out, so they called it a 97 1/2. This makes locating some parts a headache. Next time you check a parts catalog look it up, sure enough there is an entry for 97 and 97 1/2 - crazy! (other automakers have pulled this stunt before as well so I hear).
XERyder it probably did. I never seen spoilers on the older buicks. I got a 96 with the n/a first year they swiched the the series 2. I like your body style with the wing. Looks menacing to the person that knows what it really is.
The factory offered "Street Legal Performance" engine and body add/bolt-ons from the dealer, one of which was a small lip spoiler, but I could not find one and thought this would be ok.
10psi is high for stock. more like 6-8psi.im at 10 psi on a 3.4 inch pulley. but I did cut the cat out and also have 1.8 ratio rockers so that will lower the boost from the easier airflow
If you look at 0:31 you can clearly see the five mounting screws for the 3.1" quick change pulley I've installed from Pulley Boys. The stock was indeed a 3.8" press on pulley, but that has been gone for some time. Current boost with my configuration is 8psi peak.
Agreed. Have you checked it with a wideband? You might be able to get down to 3.1" if you have enough injector pulse width and pump capacity left. I've spent days testing/tuning mine with HP Tuners pro and it made an incredible difference.
I have 80lb siemens deka in rite now but cant get them tuned right. so that is why im changing ID 1050x injectors. they provide all the tuning data for them. I already maxed out my stock injectors because iim running e85. I had a 3.0 pulley on with the stock injectors with no knock but the injector duty cycle was at like 115% lol. I put the 3.4 pulley back on since the tune isn't right with these stupid sd 80lb injectors. I bough them second hand and Im suspicious that they might be Chinese knock off. I haven't heard of other people having as much problems as I am having with them. my wideband gauge says im running very rich at idle with them and I get more knock with them then the stock injectors. what did you do to your tune?
also my fuel pressure is fine so far according to my sensor so the fuel pump is keeping up for now. but if it starts to run out of fuel I plan on putting a voltage booster on the stock pump until it burns out. then I will get a higher flow pump
We've been trying to get to one (good ways distance from here) but have not yet. Most of the tuning has been done via wideband and HP Tuners drive testing. Still, I'd like to see the numbers myself!

Ever put it on the dyno?
We've been trying to get to one (good ways distance from here) but have not yet. Most of the tuning has been done via wideband and HP Tuners drive testing. Still, I'd like to see the numbers myself!
@@XERyder That's awesome. Thank you for making this video. I own a 2002 Buick Regal GS and I've just started modifying it. Have you ever used 3800performance.com? Any recommendations for headers? I'm knocking out the expensive pieces first. Already have a FlowMaster Exhaust CatBack set up and a K&N Cold Air Intake on it. Having too much fun!!
You bet man. Honestly I tried that guy and had a terrible experience - suggest you stay away and use ZZP Tim only! Go TOG headers and down pipe - might have to search around for them a little bit.
XERyder Thank you so much for your advice. I will use ZZP for my parts. Looking forward to having a beast of my own!!!
Your welcome bro, go for it! Feel free to hit me up with any questions, cheers.
The GS isn't easy to find, at least in Ohio
It does take some time to find a good one, that is for sure.
I have one for sale in Ohio
@No Trust Flow I live in Cincinnati Ohio
Nice, check out my 400whp Regal GS dyno💯
Sorry for the delayed reply, sounds awesome, and you can't go wrong with ZZP gear on these cars!
@@XERyder ZZP is definitely king of 3800s
@@PhillyDee215 No doubt - Turbo Tim will not lead you astray!
😮aà😊
I hate GM. except for the vette. And now this. Now I hate you...... :)
Splendid! Drink the "whine!" We huff, puff and blow our engines! XD
