I think Sophia is the name of a teacher she knew when she was younger and I think it's about Nerina talking to her about her boyfriend that died in a fire... I came to this by reading some stuff about her and an interview somewhere on youtube.
Sophia (pronounced So-FYE-a) is the greek godess of wisdom. apparently Nerina Pallot had a friend called Sophia (so-fye-a) and liked the name, so she wrote this song about it. There is also a name: So-FEE-a. Its spelt the same, but pronounced differently so thats why theres so much confusion about it.

First off you cannot compare Adele to Narina as they are two completely different types of Artists, Adele is a powerful singer with a limited range both vocally and stylistically, Narina on the other hand studied piano and theory, is a wonderful song writer and has a phenomenal vocal range....and also displays a wide range of musical styles in her writing and performance. I cannot say enough to express how I feel about this wonderful woman and her music....
A lovely performance. Sophia, like Idaho works best to my ear with minimal accompaniment. Sophia is to be the second UK single off the album, but it has been extensively re-worked with a strong beat added; very different indeed.
That is how most Brits pronounce it. There's actually an actress named Sophia Myles who is working in American right now, and the proper way to say her name is "So-fye-a", but the only person to get it right so far on American TV is Craig Furgeson! Silly Americans... :)
