Thanks. I went with my family July 1978 Minehead butlins 8 years old and me and my dad had our ears pierced. Toot and Ploot. Massive indoor swimming pool.
Thank you for showing this brought back so many memories.we were a big family of 14 children my dad would save his bonus from work and work weekends just to give ue Holidays at Butlins Minehead the only camp we would go to each year and Christmas ⛄.we loved every minute of it dad loved to go of camp cross the road and sit on the wall and look out onto the Beach ⛱️🏖️.I remember the pig and whistle bar the Beach comer bar 🍺 the monerrail the train 🚂 that went round the camp you could just jump on the Donkey derby was great dad used to put a bet on my young brothers used to be in the race .the outdoor heated pool .l could go on we went late sixties early seventies we loved it .Dare I say not the same anymore pluse back in the day they had beautiful flower beds all around the camp so bright and coulourful .that's gone a lot gone that was there before .Billy Butlin caterd for poor people he was a great thinking man he cared for families and children .and the prices were affordable. R.I.P Billy Butlin you will always be rememberd by my Family and thank you for the good times and memories .
It's been 45 years since I last saw that view from the monorail ( 1976 I was eleven ) , overlooking the boating lake and remembering the freezing cold swimming pool . Real pangs of nostalgia and tears thanks for sharing .🙏
I remember Skegness July 1968 my late dad watching England win the final of the World Cup 66 in colour for the 1st time he we’re well made up he passed 7/9 20 on my 63rd birthday. When I see old pick of 66 it always reminds me of butlins
Childhood Holidays there fab family time ... Having breakfast and evening meals prepared then going out for the evening with parents... All those buildings knocked down..Sad
My father was in charge of security from 1976_81. He loved his job & met many stars doing cabaret such as Bob Monkhouse, Harry Seacombe & Tommy Cooper. He didn't want to retire at 65 but company rules insisted that he did.
Totally agree with you 💯 Gervan Simon .I went back to see what it was like just one more time .not a patch on what it was when Billy Butlin had it .I saw a lot of machines to attract children costing money just to win tickets .or bowling you had to put money in to play didn't like it won't be going again .loved Minehead beach ⛱️ though would go there on the beach but not on the camp .not the same .am I right in saying Mecca own it now 🤔 I heard somewhere .
Drew Ricardo I worked in the onsite bookmakers in 1977. I'd fibbed to get the job as was only 17 when I started in May that year. What a summer season and superb memories. Take care.
johncanmoveya Thank you for message John My main memory is a girl from another school party pushing me over and I landed on base of spine, ached for ages!! She was built like a brick s@@t 💩house 😂😂😂 but other than that it was a fantastic time I may have seen ya there lol Cheers
I think we were there in 78 I was 13. I think we got on the cable car not far from our chalet. Not sure if we did self-catering or not we did both in several camps including Pontins. Us boys loved the mono-rail. Some great and very happy times.
@stablestaple 11 years before I was born - been going every year sinc 1990 though and really interested in old vids of Butlins. Really nice to see the "Beachcomber building" in the opening of the video - then called the "Stadium Building". Many happy memories of it a a child in the 1990s - sadly it's no more.

I've now watched many videos of Butlins holiday camps and I'm always impressed by how clean and well maintained all of the areas were.
