Tonight I’m in a hotel room in Skegness, reminiscing about my 1970s holidays at Butlins. 1975 Skegness, 1976 Minehead. It was a simpler world. Great times!
We used to alternate between Skegness and Minehead, except for one year when we went to Pwyhelli. Best days ever. It is so different now, unrecocnisable.
I stayed here as a child in the 70s, this film is jogging old memories. I recall the chairlifts passed over open fields, as the film unfolds the memories are brought back, people seemed more active then, they look slimmer than these days, unless its just the film, but i feel we as a society don't exercise as much as we used to. Thanks for posting this valuable footage
I worked at Clacton camp 1969, and 1970 on security. It sure brings a lump to my throat when all the great memories come flooding back. All in all I worked at Filey camp 1967 & 68 and 69 and 70 at Clacton with an odd Christmas at Minehead. A fantastic time but I also have some regrets. Happy days.
I remember Bognor in 1964. I was 10 years old and spent evenings watching cover bands in the ballroom doing Hollies, Johnny Kidd and Freddie and the dreamers numbers.
Worked in barry island 1972 met my husband (chippy) had a great time been married now for 46 years they were the days I was a nursery nurse he was a waiter 👩❤️💋👩
I went there in 1980, 8 years old. Thought it was the best. I’d never been on holiday. Mum bought a whole tray of pot noodles for the 5 days we were there!! I thought the unlimited fairground rides were too good to be true!! No fatties in this clip.....go there now and most will be waddling around, eating chips. What happened to people?
1975 when fat girls were the exception rather than the rule, I thought that maybe I had just imagined it but this film proves my memory wasn't playing tricks. I worked at Butlins Minehead in 1975 they certainly got there moneys worth out of me serving 20 people 2 sittings 3 times a day in the canteen, no wonder we were all as slim as a reed lol.
I used to go adult beaver club in the beachcomber bar😂😂I loved Butlins back then we used to go once a year for a week I still think about those holidays now I'm 52 and both my parents sadly have passed on. 😢
I can remember being at Filey Butlins in 1972 with my mum and dad. There used to be a rollercoaster ride called the fast mouse. It was marvellous, I was 5 years old. There used to be indoor wrestling as well, it was a right laugh. Happy times indeed. So sad it’s no longer there, but I’m glad my mum and dad took me, it was like going to Disneyland
you got to love this video, i remember back in the 70s i was born in 1970, making a pair of these type of skates it was so much fun as a kid back in those days, i feel for the children of now and the future, to many interfering PC idiots nower day, i'm now a foster carer for my ex's children and wow what they have to lose due to these interfering busybodies is awful i wish i could give them a real life but i cant due to stupid PC people interfering
People ate at set times and didn't constantly have kebabs, fried chicken or burgers on their mind. Most of the activities where more physical and less restricted regarding health and safety, therefore it was more encouraging and easier to participate resulting with a more refined physique.
this was the holidays I grew up with Butlins Clacton-on-Sea in the 70's - Gaiety theatre and the wild west saloon and the train going around the camp, chalets, 7am music through the tannoy speakers, soldiers on the building where the catering building were, helter skelter with the brown door mats penny machines - loved it every year.

WoW ! Went to Butlins Filey in the late 70,s this is Exactly what it was like brilliant footage.
I remember Bognor in 1964. I was 10 years old and spent evenings watching cover bands in the ballroom doing Hollies, Johnny Kidd and Freddie and the dreamers numbers.
I worked at Filey in 1975. The camp was looking so run down by then, and yet as a 19 year old, I just didn't notice.
Minehead holiday when I was young was being left at the “Beaver club “ probably couldn’t call it that now.
These days, the Dads would be heading for a place with a name like that!
My little bro was in Beavers, I was in the 913 club. Simple happy times back then :)

This is great. 16mm was so much better than 8mm. So clear. Thanks for sharing your memories
It looked nicer then compared to today.
Yeah less fake and cooperate
I holidayed a lot there in during the 80's very fond memory's of this place
Yellow Camp 1982! I remember being obsessed with the John Player's Special sponsored monorail train....can you imagine that today? 😂
Ah the jps I remember it well i used to drive it and work on the fairground as well scouse Frank 78 /88
I went in 1986, ok I was 9 but christ on bike i knew what heaven was!
Much simpler times my friend. People just seemed more content than today. Free of phones, likes and status updates.
Went Minehead few times in the 70s even remember our chalet number was h16 I was between 5 or 11 years of age brilliant fun
Loved minehead in late 70s early 80s such nice memories

Good times and nice holidays
In the 1970s all the girls looked like Suzi Quatro......I SHOULD KNOW I MARRIED ONE OF" EM".........48 CRASH

These days people are riding around on mobility scooters
Pure magic
I hope those skaters didn't trip over their flares.
Not a tattoo bingo wing or McDonalds insight ,nice to see normal size people.

Hardly a fat person in sight and a hell of a lot of skinny ones.
People ate at set times and didn't constantly have kebabs, fried chicken or burgers on their mind.
Most of the activities where more physical and less restricted regarding health and safety, therefore it was more encouraging and easier to participate resulting with a more refined physique.
Careful, you’ll have the pc brigade banging on your door with comments like that! 😂 But, what you say is absolutely spot on!
Lovely memories ,all the women are looking great back then
I strongly agree with you, back then they looked completely beauitful, nowadays they look overly glamorous, over the top and weird.
Yep the women were so natural and weren't clones but plainly different but attractive also.

Time Travel ! Thanks.
I remember the Donut machine in the café ❤
Good family holiday back then, sadly things have changed as they do but the memories will always stay..
You know why the women looked great then? No McDonald's or burger king etc🍟
LOL, ironic thing is butlins are full of them now.
MCDS, KFCS, HARRY RAMSDENS, ETC, ETC and fat woman and children.
Or plastic surgery, botox, tattoos.
@@MegaVector2011 and them internal tummy tucks.
Great footage
Went to Minehead in 1981 as a 6 year old. I loved the monorail
