The Skye Boat Song (Original Lyrics Version)
A very famous song from the Scottish song tradition, depicting the journey of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Benbecula to the Isle of Skye, where he fled to escape the English army after being defeated at the battle of Culloden in 1746. A song of bitter loss and despair, which still manages to find a ray of hope in the fact that Charlie escaped and will “rise again”.
This is a version with the original Lyrics performed by Ella Roberts for the Highland Saga Show.
The singer Ella Roberts is a native of Australia with Celtic roots. A few years ago she traced her Scottish and Irish ancestors back to the Highlands and discovered her passion for Celtic music and song.

@@paulovasconcelos3217 this reminded me of the early Portuguese settlers who intermarried the locals in Malacca. Their decendants called Eurasian. Older generations of fishermen passed on, the young ones leaving to seek greener pastures elsewhere. They missed their community n way of life.

This is the fucking first time I heard this version, and folks, do u know something? Im fucking crying again (I always cry with these type of scottish song and also with irish songs). It´s so sad cause oh gods, in this life i´ve never been in Scotia, but I know I used to live there and Im looking forward to move there as soon as I can.
It absolutely touches my soul, it brings me back home. The lyrics, the landscapes, the story... Everything brings me back home. I need to be there again, that´s all what I know.

Just a curious inquiry, but why not the full song? I noticed Miss Roberts sang the 1st-3rd verses in her original recording, and this one she skips the 2nd, but sings the 4th verse.

The tragedy of what happened after Culloden is not fully known, even to this day, it resulted in what was essentially a genocide. Song is beautifully sung though. Anyone wanting to learn about what actually happened should read the Lyon in Mourning, although it makes for harrowing reading. Slaintie from Glasgow!
