    This vid just saved me over $400. I will tell anyone now to make sure you have a good high-quality screwdriver as those evf eye screws are a challenge and can strip out. Make sure your bit is good. Also get a compartment tray and number the slots. Need about 12 slots. When you take the screws out, put them in the numbered slots and take a photo of the tray slot with the section of the camera the screw came out of. Other than that, it's pretty simple. It's amazing how loose the screws are. Put a piece of masking tape below the screw base in case your screws fall off your screwdriver while taking them out. Best of luck.

    Sad Canon is not addressing this issue. As customers we should really make a fuss about it.

    *Great VIDEO!* My wife's having this issue now and at least I know 'why' it's happening. Not happy about what I'm hearing about CANON not being more pro-active with this fix but do appreciate your making this video as I know it does take time to put these videos together. THANK YOU!

    Couldn’t have repaired my R6 without this. I did end up with five extra screws though. Thanks.

    Wow, just wow. They really did make a 30 second job into a 30 minute full scale operation.
    Literally since owning 11 Pro Canon bodies in the last decade, the only maintenance I've ever had to do was tightening the hot shoe screws, as I use on camera flash whenever possible inside. Previously this could be done on-site - now I'm going to need to send it away - as I don't want to void any warranty - as I do not trust myself to attempt this.
    Thank you for a great video though, would have helped if I was brave enough 😊🤣

    Thank you for this, just used this as my base for tightening the hot shoe screws on my R5. Couple things to note for the R5, first it has a metal plate for the card slot. You can keep these screws in place and just remove the body screws above and below that. Second, when you are removing the last few screws before removing the back lcd screen, these screws are under the grip below the HDMI port. When you remove the back side of the camera the connector to the screen is a bit different as well as the connector for the viewfinder. Honestly I couldn’t figure out how to disconnect the viewfinder but I was able to remove and tighten the hot shoe screws with it dangling.

    Such a good work! Very precise, with a lot of skills and patience ...
    It's a shame that R5 and R6 have this issues. I don't know why they inverted the screws. It was easier before to access them from the exterior.

    This is bullshit... I shouldn't have to take apart my entire camera to tighten 4 screws that were previously easily accessible in other models

    Very useful these days :) . BTW, do you know how to unmount the shutter button itself (not internal thing but that black thing we press with the index finger? I really like to have customized R6 with the red shutter button from R5 C 😊

    My hotshoe is loose in my R6 but there is nooooo way I’m gonna disassemble my camera this much to fix it.
    Should I send it to Canon for repair.

  • @pjcd7016

    WTF is wrong with Canon, is there a reason why the screws for the hot shoe aren't fed through the top, this is a Rube Goldberg design if ever there was one. Pure asinine design.

    • @dongordonphoto
      @dongordonphoto 2 года назад +4

      Agreed - I fixed my 1DX MKII by taking the thin metal plate off, tighten the screws, metal plate back on - maybe a minute - this guy had to take the camera apart - TERRIBLE design

  • @sanjayshyamji
    @sanjayshyamji Год назад +1

    Wouldn't the lock tite will create insulation between the screws and the hotshoe, after drying. That may turn into weak earth connection to the plate.

    Thank you for this video. One question, the ribbon connector that connects the viewfinder to the main board, how does that release? I got that far and can't figure out how the cable connector releases. Any chance of a closeup view of it?

      @melodyphillips2388 Год назад

      Hopefully you got this figured out within the last year, but I saw it on another video where the tech talked you through everything. There is a hinged flap that holds the ribbon in. That needs to be pried up, then the ribbon slides out parallel to the surface.
