  • Grab your dance shoes and get ready to learn how to Buckdance! 🥳
In today’s episode, we’re learning Thomas Maupin's step! This is our first actual "buck dancing" step of this series. In previous episodes, we learned "clogging" steps in order to lay the groundwork for developing a buck dancing style!
Feel free to come back to this video when you practice! If you have any questions, leave them in the comment section below!
    Good luck and enjoy! 🤗

My wife and I have been impressed with your talents of buck dancing and playing the fiddle since seeing you on 2nd street in Nashville back when y’all were still able to preform out on the sidewalks. Since watching your channel with you playing other instrument and joining up with friends, I’m even more of a fan. Young lady, you have been blessed and its so good to see your lessons series to share this tradition.

Yes, I'm waiting for the next episode! How about taking an easy or familiar song and helping us weave a pattern of buck dance steps that go well with the song's rhythms. Maybe use some examples we learned in Lessons 4 and , or build upon them. Tell us how you went about learning this skill -- from easy to more complex and diverse patterns. For example, I watch, listen, and learn from some of the steps you use in Cats on the Tennessee Farm. Thanks for inspiring us!

Hi Hillary, thank you for putting up these brilliant lessons, I'm not a natural dancer, but I'm really finding my feet with your help. Are you going to be doing any more lessons? I'm hoping you might be able to put a sequence of steps together (in a simple arrangement) to let us begin to join up the steps we've already learnt from you.
I'm based in Devon England, and have been sharing your Buck dancing lessons with as many people as will listen.
Thanks again, sending very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year, Kate.

awesome videos, thanks so much! what would be the simplest way to do two pairs of doubles/8th notes in a row with no step/quarter note in between? how can we do continuous doubles/8th notes without just using the same foot over and over again? thanks!!

There are standardized names for moves in gymnastics and figure skating, so why not buck dancing? Maybe someday "Maupin/Klug combo" will be part of the lexicon!

Can you please tell me how to become faster at the footwork? I have been doing this for several months and I am still at 80 bpm. If I go faster I tend to mess up. How long does this take to be able to dance at a pace that is beyond beginner?

It's a good idea you lead some kind of Congress an name the steps. Many other related things must be catalogue, for example the size of the Box (platform) use shoes or boots??? Instruments, banjo violin, spoons, mouth arp, arms movements or not, etc etc . If you don't do so, the tradition disappear... I saw an very old video of the age of depression and migration an appear a very young black, I think intelligent boy almost a kid, dancing in a small piece of wood and using shoes not boots, white shirt, black vest and wearing hat like a bombing and he realized some steps like you, but jump more and clap on legs an other man white and black playing banjo. Janice Joplin dance (Texan with a deep knowledge of afro-american and mexican music) different but is easy to see or identify buck steps and she...use spoons. Thanks.
