    Watching you at work always gives me a lot of positive energy. Even if I never paint anything, I'm going to watch and listen to your recordings anyway, because it has a soothing effect on me. I love when you pull shapes out of the chaos of spots, it's a bit like unwrapping a Christmas gift, waiting joyfully for surprise. Positive :)

    I love your phrase “ let the paint do the work for you” and the beginning phase “ just establishing the shapes” - its always a very open and joyfull moment - and just putting the first colors and shapes are the beginning of the joyfullmoment of creating with oil color - just love it

    I find this whole painting water mesmerising. After capturing images of a cavernous dark roundish, quarry pool, with a blue sky above and golden light reflections on smooth rock walls surrounding it, I so wished I could paint. However, as a novice painter it has been frustratingly difficult. Your technique is right up my street and I am spellbound! Thankyou, Ali . Mid Wales UK

    I enjoyed hearing you thinking about creating your Saturday zoom classes, and “waiting for America to wake up”. Having attended one and hopefully more, I’m grateful you followed through. ☺️ I spent 25 years as an instructional designer meeting crazy deadline after crazy deadline, so relate to your story. I just realized that background may be why I adore your painting approach now. It’s a lovely meander rather than an express train.

    I so admire the painting your working on now.

I got to see so many colors of the water and sky, then all would change. Wonderful experience. Well, you and yours stay well.

    Watching this interesting video on the subject of water, 3rd Nov. 22. Apparently was uploaded by Stuart approximately two years ago. Still a beautifully created piece of artwork with great detail for constructing a painting. Thank you once again Stuart for your lessons in paint they are always so informative. Also I really loved the past artworks you showed near the beginning of this video. Such mastery, I and many others I'm sure, have often wondered why your focus these days, is predominantly pure landscape.
    This of course is one reason why I am an avid listener/follower of your tutorials. Hope your continuing to keep as well as possible and resting plenty when needed. I get great pleasure from watching you paint and listening to all that you have to say about your thoughts and your artistic process 👍🌞😇

    Happy New Year Stuart. I am a new painter and have watched all you You Tubes multiple times and learned a great deal from them. I have a photo I took of a waterfall several years ago that I would like to paint but I have no idea how to get the foamy looking water as it goes over the falls or the splashes and sparkles as the water hits the bottom. I was hoping you could give me some advice on how to make the water look right or even better paint the scene for one of your videos. The scene is definitely in your colors.
    Thanks for your great videos and here's to a better year!!!!

    • @StuartDavies
      @StuartDavies  4 года назад +1

      Happy New Year, Randy. If you're new to painting then I recommend that you start with a different subject. A lot of beginners try to paint waterfalls and it is one of the most difficult things to paint. The mistake people make is that they think piling up the white paint will make it look like splashing water - it doesn't. The white has to work with colours and tones next to it to give the illusion of it sparkling.

    😃 This made my evening after a tough couple days. Ty so much. It must’ve been frustrating to find you hadn’t any sound after working on a painting video tutorial for us. Perhaps you can narrate it at a later time? Either way, I’m delighted to watch this one. By the way, I do look up artists you mention & look at their work. I really like what James Naughton is doing. I came across a Russian landscape artist named Yuliy Yulivech “Julius” Klever from the a romantic period, & is known for his mystical, romanticized Russian landscape paintings. The one I find most compelling is titled, “Winter Sun Dawn,” 1892. I liked many of his paintings. I don’t know how to say it really, but his work does have this mysterious compelling sort of atmosphere to them. Some really stunning work. Considered a Russian Master if anyone’s interested in looking him up.

    I very much enjoy watching you paint. I have a couple of observations: it could be the camera angle but the river appears to be a slight bit higher to the left, breaking your “horizontal “ rule. Also the reflection of the tree on the right does not have ripples as does the reflection on the left. Please know I am not being critical, just curious.
