    Hey man!!!
    Thanks very much for the video and the highly important information you provided within!!!
    I am moving to Spain and I’m now fully committed to getting my license so that I can use a microlight to get around the south of the country and perhaps to fly to the islands like Ibiza, Menorca, Mallorca and the Canaries…

    This seems like a preferable route to entry Vs PPL for myself, as I'm looking to flying as a hobby and personal development, not to carry passengers or fly to Europe etc, I'd be perfectly happy with a microlight only license.

    That sounds similar to Australia. Although in Australia with the recreational aviation Australia licensing you can’t fly into controlled airspace. Plus most of the ultralights I’ve scene including the one that I own did not come with a transponder so you can’t fly into controlled airspace even if you were allowed to or wanted to break the rules. While we’re on the subject of breaking the rules. If you listen to other radio calls for long enough you would not need a radio license really to operate the radio. Also you cannot fly into controlled airspace without a radio and a transponder. So you’re going to have to break the rules if you don’t have a radio license, or even better, get a license. Although it’s not that much of a big deal. Okay it’s probably technically illegal. But as long as you know what to say. You won’t cause other people any harm by using the radio without a radio license. Even in controlled airspace, you can pick it up really quickly by listening to radio scanners and such. I personally think that it’s more important to know what to say. I operate the radio and fly aircraft regularly with no certification or licensing. Both with or without instructors. And I am completely blind and have been since birth. So I always have to have somebody cited next to me. Usually that is an instructor but also can be a pilot who has done a lot of hours. Yes that’s technically illegal without an instructor. But I’m not hurting anybody. Where as I have heard other people who are licensed make terrible radio calls and also people like my dad who is a student pilot have seen fully licensed pilots fly terribly. Where as when I fly, I always try and keep it as safe as possible. And I practice my radio calls and try and give them as good as I can. So in summary, I would rather a really safe pilot who has no license then a fully licensed idiot pilot. But still, great video. And certainly helped me get into the sport. I am a student pilot. However I can’t get any further than that due to being blind. I just hope that australia will eventually let us fly these ultralights with no license like in America so that I can fly them legally. And also the four people right in, yes I have had some training with qualified instructors and keep regular training flights with a qualified instructor. I also learned most of what I know using Microsoft flight simulator X. And most of that with no accessibility layer. There is an accessibility layer for flight simulator now. I personally find that the real aircraft are easier to fly then the simulator Aircraft. But I still use the simulator to keep in practice. And any bad landing in the simulator is a failure and I will always go around and try it again. I even Press the reset button and everything. I try again and again until I am successful.

    Hi Mike. I have a Sport Pilot Licence in Australia. This sounds similar to what you have in the UK. Can you go to towered airports?

    • @StoriesofAviation
      @StoriesofAviation  6 лет назад +2

      Yes but only under VFR or special VFR. So if the weather isn't great then no. I bet you get a lot more good flying days in Australia than we do over here in the UK! The weather is always a problem in the winter, even the summer some years. Having a great summer this year though.

      I'm thinking the same as I spend a lot of time in Portugal, I'm debating between investing into a good size boat or a fixed wing microlight, the weather limits seem kind of similar
