Thanks, only glad so help and yes it is similar on many VAG group cars of this era, in a way it is a shame they have complicated this on newer cars :-/
Thanks Harvey this came up on my car today and once again you came to my rescue. Mine seemed to reset the spanner and INSP just by holding the miles reset down.
Thx mate, my model year 06 is a bit different. If you push the button and turn on the ignition there is only the blanc display with that wrench symbol, but after turning the pin to the right the reset is done
Thank you so much. My oil is just 7000km old but this came on because it's been a year since I reset it so this is all I needed. I will change the oil before winter to be fresh for cold weather..
Hmm, interesting that, I guess there is some debate as to when is the best time to change the oil, summer or winter!? I think your reasoning is perfectly valid, others may think summer is better. Either way shorter regular oil changes can only benefit the engine in the long and short term :-)
Great video Harvey! I wonder, if these warning messages are displayed automatically, after some milage, or the sistem is more advanced, and some maintenance is really required?
You have to do the maintenance that is set out in the service schedule for sure, you don't just reset the indicator just because it is annoying! Service is every 12 months and there are different service types marked on the data sticker in the boot QG0 standard, QG1 extended variable, QG2 extended fixed relating to oil service length.
Brill videos. Ive used alot of yours to sort issues with or 04 plate and they work everytime. My service light comes on at the 3000 interval ie, 23000 33000. Yet i do servicing on they 5000 intervals. Nice to knock the service spanner off before the mots
If the car had been set to variable Service it can come on randomly. The oil service light can also come on if the oil is too hot or the level or pressure is too low. As long as everything is OK you could get the control unit changed to fixed interval service and service the car at lease Once a year and reset it then or just reset it as and when, but don't skimp on doing the service part if it needs it. Always worth checking the cars critical service parts over at least once a year :-)
Cool, thanks. Not that i'm going to ignore my services but i wanted to be sure i didn't reset it when i was experimenting with the buttons when i just got the car. Manual came in bloody french....
Hi, your videos are so instructive, great job. I have a Fabia mk1 too and I would like to see how to change the manual gearbox oil. Greetings from the dominican republic. Thank You so much...
These are independent from the actual work you do, but it is your responsibility to ensure the car is properly maintained on the road, if the car crashed and killed someone you could be held liable if it could be shown your lack of service directly contributed to any persons death. Happy motoring :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey I have ''oil'' blinking only when I start Skoda fabia mk1 a few minutes, and then disappear of blinking oil - can I fix on this way ? Thnx.
You should do the service, ie, change the oil filter & oil (evey year) , air & pollen filters and fuel filter (every 3 years), if you do about 12k a year. I usually get my parts from Eurospares, but they disn't have the oil filter this time, got it from Halfords.
Thanks, I will try to do that as I'm very busy repairing the Jag and have neglected the fabia a bit. I will be returning to it very soon as I need to use it in the near future. Cheers :-)

I think this only happens on variable service not fixed and only on late models, but might be wrong; anyway if there has been warning lights regularly coming on the dash and not rectified the service interval will be effected along with other things like engine fuel and emission data. The ECU logs these and if not cleared can effect the service interval. You can change the service to fixed interval with OBD device :-)
Are you 100% as it only turns very slightly and you will feel a little click. Possibly try turning it back and forth a bit as it may hopefully just be stuck. If you are having no luck at all then you may have to think of taking the instrument binnacle out to repair if you really need to.
did as follows on here...didnt work.... I just pushed the button a bunch of times after ignition was turned on and finally got rid of oil and inspection info lights
Something that might help people if they come across the same problem as me. On a Skoda Fabian 2009 you have a little screen inbetween the Rev and Speedo dails. The same kind this model has 2 of under the dails, in the 2009 its a 1 central one. I had the key in ( engine off) to have radio and was wiping down the dash with a microfiber cloth and the screen went dead. So no fuel meter, clock or any of the L/km stuff. Its an easy enough fix. While the car is off, key in your pocket, Unhook the battery. Then get in and put the key in and turn like you would start the engine. This well drain whatever elec is still left in the system, repeat this a few times. Go to the kitchen for a beer. Return some minutes later, Hook the batt back in and you should get your screen back. I read some people got some garage scumbag charging them 500 for a whole new speedometer unite while its just a reset that is needed. Do let me know if i'm giving bad advice but it seems to be working for me so far.
Good advice, this can relate to a PCB board issue - failing solder joints, voltage regulator and wire connections. A number of people report this happening and resetting it maybe all it needs :-)
Bought one few days ago and I was struggling with this.. I mean car works, but it's just annoying. I thought it would be fixed in OBD, but no lol Anywayyyy... Thanks for the vid

You're think I'm a stalker, I've become your "Groupie" since owning my Fabia which has only been 2 weeks😁. Could you give me your take on my car which seems to be using a lot of coolant. I checked out your video on replacing expansion tank. I also checked all the signs for dare I say it head gasket issue. Can't see any evident signs of milky colouring etc. After freezing weather coolant seemed to disappear but no warning light on dash. Checked connection to expansion tank, seems ok. Temperature light comes on initially and then goes out. Given it's an 18 year old car do you think it's a good idea to change expansion tank anyway. Sorry this is so long. Thank you for your videos, you're a life and money saver 👍
Hi Frankie Bye, you're not a stalker at all, you just care about your little Fabia. First I would stand the car over a clear area for a while and look for leaks (first cold then whilst running). when up to temp check the engine and look for evaporative leaks (steam). you're right to look at the oil cap and dip stick for dis-colourisation and also check the expansion tank for signs of oil contamination (don't change the expansion tank until you have found why the engine is loosing water). If water is getting into oil galleries, don't run the car as further damage may occur. It is often the head gasket, but can be worse ;-)
Once you have cleared the service i don't think you can bring it back until the next service. The vehicle data sticker in the service book or in the boot should have the type interval QG1, QG2 (Long service int) or QG0 (standard service int). I believe if you reset the dash yourself it uses QG0 (annual fixed int). I recommend the fixed service int.
Tried this 10 times to be sure but it doesnt work for me. It works right up to thr bit where you release your thumb off the button. When i do that my code doesnt stay there. It just goes back to the trip meter .
@@nbashortclips5116 sorry, you need to press the knob with the ignition off and hold it - turn ignition on and hol it to access the service menu. If you don't or it won't hold down it will just reset the clock. Is yours stuck?
Make sure you can feel the switch turn slightly, you should feel it notch to the side. If this doesn't move or work, does it do anything on the display? if not then suspect the instrument cluster switch on the circuit board or the internal circuitry. You need to plug in obd2 diagnostics to ascertain if/what/why the switch isn't working.
The oil light should change to 3 dashes when turning the knob to right (don't push in or pull out knob when doing this, just turn it) if you have no service due warning anymore you have done it.
