  • In this video I will be showing how to replace the rear brake pads on 2018 Ford F150. this process is very similar to replacing brake pads on any other vehicle other than the fact that it has an electronic parking brake that prevents you from pushing in the piston fully to be able to fit the caliper back over the new parts. in order to push the piston in the truck needs to be put in to parking brake maintenance mode which will be demonstrated in this video and allow you to carry on the pad replacement as traditional set of brakes
    Hope you find this video helpful and if you did don't forget to like , comment and subscribe.
    Thanks for watching!

    grease the clips. check the slide pins for proper grease and if they are free floating. grease the face of the piston. wire brush any place where there is metal to metal contact including where the new clips press on.

    This was the more informative of several videos that I have watched about this. Some of the guys didn't bother talking about the stuff you did, thank you.

    Thanks for the info on the rear brakes. I would not have known to put it in service mode. I saw you used a piece of wood to push the caliper back. I normally use one of the old pads to accomplish this. Might be a little easier for you. Thanks again

      I’m glad it was helpful, I usually use the old pad as well but my c-clamp was too small. So the wood worked well in a pinch

    If the truck has 100,000 miles, what's the vote here on Replacing the rotors versus just having the rotors turned or shaved. assuming no obvious warping or damage.

    • @thatguygrego1328
      @thatguygrego1328  2 года назад

      I’m usually in favour of replacing rotors just due to the time aspect of removing them to get them shaved verses getting the new ones and although there is no warping there is probably a decent amount of material gone from when it was original.

    After you first put it in service mode. You took the key out and did the repairs with the truck completely off right?? I just want to make sure I don’t have to leave the truck with key in the ignition to make sure it stays in service mode. TIA

    • @thatguygrego1328
      @thatguygrego1328  2 года назад

      I had left the key in the ignition with the truck switched to off, how ever I think you can remove it and the truck will remain in service mode

    if the break piston comes out can it be put back in? 2018 f 150

    • @thatguygrego1328
      @thatguygrego1328  3 года назад

      To be honest I’m not sure, generally on a clipper the piston can be put back in place, but I’m not sure if there are any complications doing it with the electronic parking break.

    Well, like a fool, I started into the process without looking for guidance. A buddy told me there is a process needed before you start. Unfortunately, I already had the caliper off before I went into maintenance mode. Now, I can not get the caliper pushed back in. Can anyone help me, please. It’s a 2019 f150. I need this vehicle to get to work tomorrow, or I would not be bothering anyone…

    Did you bleed the brakes any after installing the brake pads? I keeps seeing all videos on brake jobs not talking about bleeding the brakes.

      Awesome video. But just a quick question. Going into and out of service mode do you hold the parking brake button in while you set in the gas and turn the ignition?

    So those electronic parking brakes are just connected to the hydraulic brakes?

    What if the piston was retracted.by turning it and no maintenance mode was used?

    • @thatguygrego1328
      @thatguygrego1328  3 года назад

      I’m not sure I was pretty sure it would not allow for the piston to retract, maybe if you have the mechanical parking break instead of the electronic.

  • @jamestone265
    @jamestone265 Год назад

    Why don’t guys take a screwdriver and force the piston back in before removing the calipers. I always done it that way. Also check the master cylinder to see if it’s full as some service shops do that normally. If it full remove some of the fluid before you start the job or the piston won’t go back in far enough.

    In days gone by, one of the maintenance things everyone could do is change their brake pads. All you needed was a C- clamp.
    Can someone tell me why the need to enter "service mode"? Is this just another ploy to get owners into the dealership? Where more of your money can be harvested? It really does seem that way.

  • @MurdahBassRecords

    Somehow the pads went bad? You mean like how their supposed to wear down.......as in.....its the core concept of a brake pad ? 😂😂🤷‍♂️
