He’s the real deal. Leader his entire career. Guys like probert, kocur, maccarty, shannahan, lidstom, Hull, datsyuk, kronwall, and so many more absolute studs and badasses looked to him for leadership. Many have said he didn’t need to say jack shit, he just looked you in the eyes when you fked up or we’re about to and they would straighten out.
@@davidmowry8951 very true. Will never forget him being so injured in the playoffs he could barely skate but he was out there laying it on the line every shift which inspired the whole team to elevate to a different level. It’s a hockey cliche now but Stevie Y was the guy

I love this so much. Being born into the winning culture in Detroit, and sticking through the harder times with this team the past several years, it’s so amazing and good for my heart to see Steve Yzerman, THE CAPTAIN, bringing this team back to glory. When we win our next cup under Stevie’s lead, I will cry. There’s something so meaningful happening here in Detroit, and I’m so happy to be able to experience it.

Im a 32 year old adult male and never had "tears of joy" until after 12:25. From the Twitter comments saying Seider is good but not 6 good. This one random source put Seider at 50 in top 100 skaters in the league! This has to be one of the greatest picks in NHL history
One thing Yzerman needs to include in this rebuild . One that doesn’t effect the team play but it is to get that Joe
Lewis goal horn back in the new arena and get rid of that recorded version that sounds like it’s being blasted by a big speaker locked in a room somewhere in LCA .

After Raymond and Seider, I think trust in Yzerman is at an all time high. I'm still feeling like we're a year off given how tough the Atlantic division and Eastern conference is. A team that was in last year will need to fall off while we get better. But it'll be fun to see the playoff race hopefully be not decided by early April.

It’s going to be a ridiculously stacked division in a few years. Leafs window is closing, the Bruins window has closed. Detroit and Montreal are 3ish years away from a playoff spot. Ottawa is there now, Tampa now, Florida now, Buffalo likely never.
There’ll be 5-6 good teams in the Atlantic for a lot of years.

Why is the draft lottery selection done behind closed doors when they did it live before????????? So, they can cheat... Why else would they do it behind closed doors. Then they protect the cheating by having liar and bigger liar attorneys at law as witnesses. The best part is the the lawyers can never tell the real truth under client confidentiality or otherwise lose their practice license. What a sham...

After having no luck in the draft, Yzerman is taking chances in trades, and free agency. He was patient, but the lottery never went our way, so now he has changed gears. Amazing player, amazing GM, amazing Red Wing!

Still remember the day i heard he was coming home, was driving home from work with 97.1 on the Radio here in Michigan, i almost shed a tear or two. And larking being from my hometown (Waterford, MI) and playing at the same rink i did growing up, made it even better. Still need to get me a Larkin jersey.
And yea, I was born in 90 and have watched them be so good for so many years the expectations were always high. The retirement of the vets and the move to LCA from one of the most iconic NHL arenas of all time took a toll on the team i think. 25 years of playoffs is still insane for me to hear. I turned 25 the same year, their 25 year run literally started the year i was born.
The list of things Steve Yzerman likes about Marco Kasper had me dying. Brilliant.

Thanks, Napean, Ontario for sending us your best and brightest citizen. Seems like only yesterday #19 was skating the Cup at JLA, giving Detroit the glory it so desperately needed. Now he drives the ship, steering us back to where we're used to being - a city of champions because of GRIT and DETERMINATION and HARD WORK. If everyone in the Red Wing organization exhibits even HALF the guts, sacrifice and commitment Stevie gives this city every day, we'll be in damn fine shape.

Hiring yzerman is the easiest decision illitch ever made. He could give the man a lifetime contract and nobody would disagree with it
I was so upset when I seen wings fans mad about the Marco Kasper pick.. If you watched all of his film. And watched every interview the kid has done, you'd see how good of a player, and PERSON he is. Yzerman isn't drafting players based on your skill alone. He drafts guys, with skill, and character. That's how you build a hockey team, that won't give up no matter what. That's exactly how he built Tampa, and look how that turned out.. Those dudes could get hit in the face by a 100 mph+ slapshot and continue playing in the playoffs. Every pick Yzerman has made, makes me believe those are the types of players he likes. And it is a proven system, that arguably could have won 3 straight stanley cups.. Marco Kasper is a stud, I think he's a wonderful player, and Im excited to see him get into a winged wheel jersey
As a Leafs fan I know a passionate fanbase when I see one and Detroit your time is coming. Never expect a cup, that's not how it works but your time will come again.

Yzerman has made great moves from his very first day in 2019 (19). Drafted Seider which is a homerun already. Antti Tuomisto is a good prospect going pro in Liiga. Albert Johansson will be playing in Detroit in a couple years. Elmer Soderblum could be in GR this year. He trades Mantha for Vrana and Panik. Viana immediately pats off and Panik is draft capital. He brings in Ned in goal. He brings on Robbi Fabbri, Plus Suter. He drafts Lucas Raymond, William Wallinder, Theodore Niederbach, Cross Hanas and Donovan Sebrango. Then he drafts Simon Edvinsson and Sabastian Cossa. Now he brings in Marko Kasper, Dylan James, Dimitri Buchelnikov, Amadeus Lombardy. He signs David Perron, Olli Maataa, Ben Chiarot, Andrew Copp, Dominic Kubalik and Ville Husso. This team is almost ready.
I think we’re going to lose Toumisto. Red wings will need to sign him before June 1 2023 or he becomes a free agent. Would’ve stung if we lost a right shot shutdown defenseman with size who could play for Detroit in two years.
@@younieemahgdh9529 It's possible. Usually when a European player goes back to Europe it's over as far as making to the NHL. Thus case is a bit different though. They haven't signed him but they still own his rights. He deferred his junior and senior year to turn pro. Usually they finish college then go home or play for another N. American league. He's still in the plans for Detroit. He wants to go pro and get a bigger role, learn to play the pro game. That's better for his development into an NHL defenseman and the Red Wings have been using Liiga and the SHL to develop players for several years. Tuomisto will be playing for the same team as Eemil Viro, another Wings defenseman prospect who is signed by the Wings and is only a year older.
He probably should have went directly to Liiga or SHL like a lot of European players do. Seems like guys when they play NCAA they don't go to the NHL unless they were like a 1st round pick and were already playing for a big school.
Tuomisto is nothing special. He's only going pro because he wasn't getting any ice time at DU because he was being outplayed by freshman. I've watched him for the last several years and he was a pretty big disappointment. You should be more excited about Buium who looked A LOT better than Tuomisto, but Buium has a long way to go.
@@neutralsportsfan17 I didn't say he was special, just a good prospect with size. Playing in Liiga is going to help his development. I think Buium is a better prospect but of the 3 I'm more excited about Mazur. I honestly don't see any of those 3 making the Wings roster though. I see Johansson and Edvinsson making the roster by next season.
Soderblom and Johansson will both be in either GR and/or Detroit this season.
Amazing video, loved every second of it. As both an Avalanche and Red Wing(ironic, I know) fan, I think today in the Wings we see the Avalanche of 2018-19, starting to get on their feet and compete but still in the rebuild and not quite ready for the cup. Give them five years, I think they'll be at the finals at least.

Honestly Yzerman is a big part of the reason for my love for the Wings, it is what pulled me to them, Lindstrom also, watching them in the 90s and early 2000s will always be something that I will remember. They continued to be a force for years afterward, and finally peaked and had a bit of a downfall. Seeing how Yzerman has come back, and how and what he is doing for this franchise is amazing.
If Lidstrom is one of the reasons you cheer for Wings I think you ought to know that his name is Lidstrom , not Lindstrom.

One thing I’ve learned since Yzerman has been the GM, is it doesn’t matter we’re the wings draft Steve will still pick the best player in that draft
He got Point and Kucherov in the 2nd and third rounds. Palat in the 7th round. It really goes beyond just the pick. Stevie Y gets the right people to develop the players. His hiring of Barb Underhill in TB was a huge factor in the Lightning's success. You know he'll do the same in Detroit.
@@boltinabottle6307 yea for sure. But since he has been in Detroit he’s hit home runs with all of his first round picks. It seemed like in Tampa he missed most his first round picks for some reason. so I was a little bit worried about that when he came to Detroit.

Been a diehard Wings fan nearly 40 years now. Been a crazy ride - the ups, the downs. I can't begin to express how excited I am for the future of this Red Wings team. Those who doubted Yzerman are eating endless amounts of crow now.

I'm 50 been a wings fan since Stevie Y was picked in the draft because I watched him with the Pete's and watched Bob Probert with the Brantford Alexanders. Could the lack of likes he jealousy that the red wings have the greatest captain and now GM in NHL history? Could it be some forget to hit the thumbs up? Where are my hockey fans at, this is a wicked hockey story and it's only a couple chapters in, wait till it's finished it'll be a best seller. I cheered for the Leafs then I cheered for the lighting because the wings weren't there, but I love hockey at every level. Again well done, well edited, you can be proud of this ❤️🪶

This is coming from a Die Hard Avs fan who witnessed the intense rivalry we had in the late 90's, Detriot has a great and young upstanding team in front of Yzerman, I am predicting in the short future it will be you guys, the Panthers, and the Habs running the show in the Atlantic, Tampa will eventually come down to earth and the Leafs Management will once again fumble their team with poor Cap Management. I Hope one day we will see a Wings/Avs Cup final.
Jesse Blake's reaction always does it for me. SDP is still one of my favorite podcasts. Yzerplan is all about trusting the process. We may stink now but there is a point to his plan. With all of the FAs that he signed, he still had 10 million in cap space. He can literally weaponize it at the dead line or save for next year. Sucks to Pysyk but 22 is going to be exciting for all of us wing fans.

The only draft I don´t really agree on was Cosa over Walstedt. But time will tell.
I think he picked cossa cause cossa’s development will fall in line with the rebuild, whereas walstedt is more nhl ready and I don’t think Yzerman wanted to throw a young goalie in the net so soon, also I think cossa has a higher ceiling.
@@Sonicthehedgefundmanager it’s possible but I would be more apt to believe that SY just thought Cossa was better. He’s not gonna choose the lesser player to fit a development timeline
