Short girl vs FASTEST neo cafe racer: Triumph Speed Twin

  • Finally got to ride the 2022 Triumph Speed Twin, Triumph's fastest little neo cafe racer! It's 300cc more than my 2nd bike, the Triumph Bonneville T100, and 30 lbs lighter. When I had the Bonneville as a newer rider back in 2017, I really struggled with the top heavy weight and seat height, so much that I barely rode it when I had it and sold it within a year. If this Speed twin had been my 2nd bike instead, and I didn't know the simple tricks I know now for handling a taller bike, I bet I wouldn't have struggled with it as much as I had.

    So glad that your still showing an interest in the Triumph line of motorcycles. The first one I ever had the strongest urge to own was an early Bonneville laced into a featherbed frame that someone had sourced from somewhere. A young, newly married, sailor at the time, my wife wasn't hearing it, so my buddy sold it to someone else. Don't know about all the new fangled options for the latest one's, just know they pull hard and ride like riding on glass. Take great care of yourself, and have the best of the holiday season.

    I think with a few upgrades, this could be a good all-around bike. What I mean upgrades, I mean like a comfortable seat, a windscreen and some nice classic panniers. Then you got a nice weekend getaway bike. In my city of San Antonio, I'm part of a Triumph riders group. Most of the guys have the classic Triumph motorcycles like the T100, t120, scrambler and thruxton. The sound and the look is so gorgeous. In some ways I almost feel out of place with my Triumph Tiger. But I love the sound of my triple ❤️. Your videos are awesome! Thank you so much.

    • @nateriver5114
      @nateriver5114 2 года назад +2

      why would you want to ruin this beauty with a windscreen? and more important, why would you even want a windscreeen at all, in a country with a legal speed limit that can be achieved by bicycles nowadays? starting at maybe 110 mph i sometimes start missing a windscreen but below that there is no point in it at all.

    I have a 2019 Speed Twin and it’s the best sounding bike IMHO, nice and throaty with the cone engineering shorty exhaust. I also swapped out the wheels for a set of the spoked wheels off the Thruxton, aside from some additional unsprung weight, the bike is perfect. Torque for days.

    I think your Street Triple is cute, but it's mixed with smokin' beauty too. That little clip in the vid where you pulled up on it and swapped feet down 2:22. You bike looks serious, and because you're a smaller rider it accentuates the bike. .... To a past rider like myself, your bike is achingly gorgeous. (Can't ride at the moment.)
    That Speed Twin is gorgeous, (but your bike is too). Your boop on the Speed Twin's nose was genius. I felt your anxiety at the last line of speech in the vid; that was a classic moment.

    Thanks for the video! Like you, I’m a short rider and used to think I had to flat foot a bike to have control. Since I learned the one foot technique I have so much more confidence and realize it’s totally unnecessary to put both feet down. The Bonnevilles do feel a bit top heavy, though. I have a 2020 Bonneville T-120, which is the same size as your old T-100 but even heavier. It fits me nicely and when I’m riding it doesn’t feel heavy at all, but pushing it around a driveway or maneuvering it into a parking space it feels very heavy. I sometimes think about trading it in for the Speed Twin, but my T-120 is more comfortable. I love the extra power and sixth gear on my Bonnie compared to the T-100, but it’s not light and fast like the Speed Twin. I wonder if the Speed Twin might be too fast for my skill level. It has the same 1200cc engine as my bike but tuned for much more power.

    Thanks for this! I’ve noticed that very few riders review bikes and even mention how top heavy or bottom heavy they are, so I really appreciate that you put this in your reviews! I find that top heavy bikes feel a lot different in turns and even for riders that aren’t short it’s an important factor. So thanks! I’ve had a few people recommend the Twin to me because I was looking at 700ish-900ish retro or cafe bikes. But your review convinced me that its awesome but it’s probably not ideal for me.

    • @PNWShawn
      @PNWShawn 2 года назад

      Keith, your friends were probably talking about the 900cc Street Twin, rather than the 1200cc Speed Twin. Big difference between them. The Street Twin is the entry level version of the Bonneville, while the Speed Twin and Thruxton are at the top of the Bonneville line (yes, the Bobber, Speedmaster, Thruxton, Street Twin, T-120, T-100, and even Scramblers are all Bonnevilles.) But just because it’s at the cheaper end of the Bonneville lineup doesn’t mean it’s not a well built machine. I would recommend taking the Street Twin for a test ride. Low seat height, great handling, relatively light weight, and thousands cheaper than the Speed Twin or Bobber.

    • @keithanderson6358
      @keithanderson6358 2 года назад +1

      @@PNWShawn actually they’d recommended the speed twin and not the street twin, which I know is way out of the cc range I was looking at, but was recommended due to its good looks, super heavy torque and fun ride experience, and obvious “fit” in the retro category. I’d been looking at the z900rs so this was a semi-comp. I live near a lot of good twisties so I’m mostly looking at naked bikes with handling designed for that. Street triple, Duke 890, MT-07, etc. No decision yet. I have to say, though, the street twin and Triumph’s other retros are simply gorgeous!

    Doodle
    Yes, there are Triples and 4 cylinder bikes but the is nothing as nostalgic as the British Classic Twins!! I will NEVER sell my Thruxton R, ever. Now that you are way up the talent chain you can appreciate different bikes. There's nothing like just putting along and then twisting the throttle for that fabulous rush of torque!! I cancelled my HD Pan America order and I'm trading my Tiger 1200 XCX for the new 2022 Ralley Explorer. Next bike in the spring is the Speed Triple RR. A true 21st century version of a Cafe Racer.
    Great Video Doodle!!
    Ride SAFE and BE safe Lady!

    Are you going to review your experience with the HD PanAm. We saw you in Her Two Wheels review (,background)
    Love Trumph. First bike was a 63 Bonniville TT Special in Alaskan White.

    It's amazing how much even a tiny windscreen helps with the wind.

    Wow! I’m just down the road and didn’t even know there was a Triumph dealer in the area. I see bikes parked there all the time and always thought how strange it was to have a biker coffee shop.

    Bonneville Speedmaster for me......the most comfortable seating position I've ever experienced....but...make mine in a dark ruby red metallic with a nice clearcoat.

    Nice video, is a good bike for commuting honestly? daily use (comfortable) and weekend touring, of perhaps recreation purpose? or comparison, is this better on your bike?
    street triple 765 is better for daily use, it is wise to jump from naked bike ( mt09) to this classic for daily use
    Any way great video
    Be safe

    Something that I've noticed in every video review of this bike , when the reviewers twist the throttle , without fail, whether they are male or female, there's a reaction like " Woo-hoo" and some giggling. It's genuine , and tells me way more than any data and figures do about the bike.
