Couple of important details I've seen mentioned elsewhere:
Crescense (sp?) Reiger had recently had a baby before she quit. Anton Bichler had proposed, but the Grubers advised her against it, saying he was a thief.
Who was the father of the baby, born out of wedlock?
My theory - Andreas Gruber. He sexually abused/raped his own daughter...its not much of a stretch to imagine him doing the same to his live-in maid. Through a sort of Stockholm syndrome, a relationship forms. Reiger supposedly winessed Andreas and Viktoria having incestuous relations in the barn, which also was part of the reason she quit. So I think Anton Bickler and his brother, perhaps aided by Reiger herself, maybe even goaded into it, did the awful deeds. The experts said the killings being so horrific, plus the strangulation marks on Viktoria, indicated a highly personal attack. The Grubers had interfered with their marriage proposal, and he may have been abusing Reiger. Also, why did the killings occur on the new maid's first day? A sort of twisted jealousy perhaps?

@@gazXspacetimestamp? Maybe I'm missing something. They looked like normal late 60s farmers in the 1920s. Oh, and do you mean inbred rather than crossbred? The only inbred ones were the youngest kids and any level of visible inbreeding takes a couple generations to show.
