Your model is beautiful. I had the pleasure of walking Mikasa's decks in July of 2019. She was stripped of many of her fittings post-WW II but she was later saved and restored (fake guns and turrets) as a memorial. The light rain and the spray whipped up by the winds off the bay made me forget for a moment that she was filled with and surrounded by concrete. Nice work and thanks for the memories!
I am astounded. Your water surface alone leaves me stunned. Those shell plumes are fantastic! Along with your smoke. Then let us address how awesome the Mikasa looks itself. I paused at 19:27. If that is not a contender for "best build" nothing is. You applied a lot of art to this subject. Bravo.
I want your job! That was truly amazing! It really evoked the history of the scene, the sense of movement and desperation of a sea battle like this. I had no sense of the scale until you put it onto the base and realized that whole ship was almost the size of your hand!
The age of the main gun died in 1942 at Midway. There after, most battleship guns were regulated to shore bombardment until missiles made those too obsolete.
Fantastic.... I'm currently modelling HMS Vengeance from the Canopus class that came just before Vickers built the Formidable class and this ship for the Japanese. I am seeing a lot of detail to be added to my own 3D model.
You should make a video showcasing all of the models youve done, sort of like a room tour style. Would be super cool to see them all together. Great video as always! Keep up the great work!
😎👍Very cool and very nicely well done and executed in every way shape and form and a very spectacular job in all of your detail work and painting of the model and the smoke coming out of the stacks indeed and loved the ocean scene with all of the explosions and all in it a very great and wonderful job indeed!,👌.
I saw the real built model at Malaysia International Miniature Hobby Show....just few days ago...his work is amazing and also this Mikasa awarded Silver Medal...Congratz 😁🥳🥳
Hi, This is excellent word: an understatement 🙂. What adhesive do you use to attach the decking on to the hull? I'll be much obliged if you let me know. Regards.
Well, this would be a great display model for the Mikasa. Including the nice making of video. I imagine a showcase on the Mikasa (accessible on all sides) with a monitor / tablet featuring this making of video and and a documentary about the battle itself. Would be a cool colaboration. Maybe they are interested?
I adore your model making process but I always search for a way to make great looking Sea Surface and yours seems to be that way. Would it be possible to state Materials you have used? Ty
Excellent made. Some historical details: they wouldn't carry boats aboard a ship in a battle. Railings, forward and rear stays and flag poles would be removed from the deck. Matresses were used as protection on the bridges.
@@craigmurrayauthor For the mattresses you can enter in google this phrase: Painting: Admiral Tōgō on the bridge of the Battleship Mikasa at the battle of Tsushima For the railings enter: I.J.N. battleship “Mikasa”, c. 1910. | Old Tokyo That website has a photo taken from the Mikasa rear bridge in the battle of Tsushima. The railings and flag pole are lying on the deck, the stays seem removed. If they weren't, all these things would be blown away by 12" gun gunpowder gases. Boats would be left in the navy base, because they were of no use, just firewood. In the Tsushima battle admiral Rozhestvensky didn't order to remove the boats (he wasn't a smart guy), that caused severe fire and demoralized the crews of the Russian battleships.

Outstanding job. One question; what's the white wrapping around the rails on the superstructure? That looks quite odd, I have never seen that on a warship before
I saw your work at Malcom this year and it was spectacular, congratulaions on your well earned silver! Just 2 questions though, what was the brown colored material that you used for the diorama base and also, the white colored slushie looking thing that you used for the explosion effects?
Where the heck did you find a 1:700 scale Makasa? I've seen a 1:200 and 1:350 but my hobby shop never has the 1:700 scale version :( Pre-dreadnoughts are my favorite ship models.
I used to live in Yokohama, so I've been to Yokosuka Memorial Museum Mikasa several times. There are traces of bullets in various places on the ship, and it is also written who died there. It was a smaller ship than I thought, and I was surprised to see that they often bombarded each other with such a size. My condolences to the war dead on both sides.
The battle fought by the battleship Mikasa was the "Battle of the Sea of Japan". Not "Yellow Sea". It is better to specify the international standard. The spirit of the Battleship Mikasa will be immortalized forever.

Ahh, they don’t make ships like they used to. I love the sheer number of cannons. These days it’s all missiles and defensive Vulcans.
I love the fact the captain still had his private balcony at the bow. So old school, even for the time :)

These are sheets of canvas wrapped over the railings, presumably to protect from sea spray. There were and in fact still are widely used.
