The friendship Walter and Donald had together was unbreakable and was built on trust and loyalty. It makes me wish I had a friendship like they have. You can't find friends like that anymore. Rest in peace Walter love and miss you
Growing up with 3 older brothers had many benefits. Being exposed to SD was definitely one of them. I’m a musician and I can tell that everything I write and play has a hint of their influence. I’m grateful for this. My life is better because of their music. Thanks SD. RIP WB
The Stardust Motel in Waldorf Maryland to Malibu What a ride for these legends Walter Becker has now passed away and the world seems a different less hip world
I never could figure out if I liked Steely Dan. I kept listening to in. Over the years. Do I like it? I was left with the fact that art that makes you think is real art.
Awesome. Very funny at times, but definitely insightful. Thanks for mentioning that you had posted some interview clips on another page recently. I really appreciate it!
This is terrific and very enlightening. However if this timeline is correct Walter and Donald went there separate ways shortly thereafter only to reform in the mid-nineties. Rest in peace Walter Becker.
Considering that they said at one point in the interview "We've been together for 10 years" that would be in alignment with the timeline of Steely Dan forming and making demos in 1971 and breaking up June of 1981.
Great duo, some of the best music from that era, I bought my 1st album in 1975, steely Dans the royal scam, I forgot how much I paid, I'll guess 5 bucks maybe, well worth it, I played the shit out of that thing.
OP... just found this specific interview on vinyl. Can you help me with the origin information? Where is this recorded from? Sounds like a vinyl at the breaks. Thank you
Ran across this interview and it’s really funny they mentioned the Stardust Motel in Waldorf Md. I can’t believe walter and Donald played in Waldorf at the stardust😂 it closed down and I think it burned down but It’s been a such a long time… Waldorf Md.. that’s funny that they talked about what a sh-t hole it was. And it was!
It's funny how connections in the music industry helped along the way, otherwise they may have never gotten the opportunity to write and get songs out there, like, "do it again" that's the 1 that broke them, it's always that way, 1 song.

The Burner Mary Turner every weeknight on KMET! FM radio at its best! 👍🎼🇺🇸
This is great. Sounds like they had a wee puff before the interview.
Wasn't Becker a heroin addict at this point?
The tape is running a semitone or so flat, so that probably has something to do with it.
@@modifiedcontent yep
This is great!
I wish Fagen would tour as STEELY DON

That is entirely possible, but the person that gave this to me said it was from 1981. R.I.P. Walter

Who are the other people talking on this interview, like the guy at 5:51? Rest in Peace Walter
That is Jeff Baxter. The other people to listen for are Gary Katz and Dick LaPalm (producer I think?)
Movin' On Got you, he does sound quite similar to Donald, this was a very interesting interview thanks for posting
great stuff.RIP Walter and thanks for blowing my mind
Who is the third guy with the thick NY/NJ accent?
Gary Katz
A skip! So this is from a promotional LP, I wonder how many of these ever existed.
Oh, Donald being very clever when the interviewer said, "Siamese ears!" ( I got the reference, Donald. )
Hey let's take a decade off and screw with everybody's mind in 1992! The Dan knew to chill for a decade...the 80s sucked BTW lol
