I am watching this and it isn't the holidays and no one is coming to vist. I live alone and decided I really want to come home to a house that feels like I care enough about the person who lives here, ME, to make it look nice when I walk in and in the rooms where I spend time. Thanks so much. I made my lists, going to do my dishes!
I hear ya' Dana. I am definitely one who can turn "people coming over for dinner" into "I simply must reorganize my sock drawer." Not that dinner guests have EVER looked into my sock drawer.
Oh, but we IMAGINE that the guests will look into the sock drawer! Er, how organized or unorganized I am. 😉 So it's extremely stressful to feel like I have to clean all the hidden spaces and that special "shove-it-in" junky drawer when guests are coming.
I have a girlfriend that washes her sheets on her bed for a ladies lunch. If anyone sees your sheets at lunch the lunch is already in Castrophic range. It will not matter if you have day old sheets on your bed. Lunch late or no toilet paper yes, Sheets No.

I did this for the sixteen days before I had Cochlear Implant surgery this summer, because for a good time after I wasn’t supposed to do anything super physical. I took one area a day, sometimes just one side of one room and super cleaned it. Like baseboards and the whole deal. By the time my surgery date came around almost all of our fairly small house was spotless and it felt so good during my recovery to enjoy our home. Well maybe not enjoy, but it made my healing way more endurable.

So glad I got to a place where I only have to do a swish and swipe of the toilet and perhaps some dishes before someone comes over! Took me years to get there, but I'm done in 5-15 minutes (without having to shove everything in my dryer, weird spot, but hey, it's a big dark hole that no one is gonna look into 😅😂). However, it depends on how long someone is going to stay: with longer stays (let's say half a day), I'll probably also be doing some dusting and mopping/ vacuuming, especially if some of the visitors will be children. With guests who stay overnight, I'll have to clean the bathroom and wash the bedding too. Generally my house is tidy enough for people to THINK it is clean 🤫 Just get it to be tidy and uncluttered and most people will think it's clean. It's the visual thing. It really works! At least for shorter visits. Will still be watching this series though 👍🏻

I want to be you when I grow up...... Seriously!!! I wish I could clean my house in 5-15 minutes it seems like there is a new mess in that amount of time here.
Many years ago, when I had my first real job and apartment, I had my mother come visit for a weekend. For prep I dropped sheets and towels at the “wash and fold” laundry and paid for the service, stuffed all the rest of my dirty laundry in the trunk of my car, brought my mother to my house, and had a lovely time. We ate out/ordered in the whole time. That way I didn’t have many dirty dishes. P.S. I was flat broke by the time it was over, but my apartment appeared pristine and we laughed a lot. ❤️❤️
"I'm so mature." Well, you did raise boys and teach in a classroom. That combination does tend to develop toilet humor in spades. So excited for this series! Thank you, sweetie.
"I'm so mature..." Lol. That is so me So relatable. This whole video is relatable but thankfully I have gotten to the point with decluttering that I can be people ready in less than and hour. You have been such a big help along with Dawn and Cass...the three different approaches helps me a lot.
You are probably not going to believe this, but I actually dreamt about you last night! You were walking me through my house helping me see my problem areas and repeating your (fabulous) 2 decluttering questions, container concept, and (the one I’m dealing with this morning -) dishes math. 😖 (Yes, it is a thing.) Obviously I’ve been binge watching your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your methods. I have a “slob brain” and that’s okay. You know I’ll be following along for these next 2 weeks. Love ya, Dana! ❣️😊
We've been remodeling since May of this year - all new tile flooring in the living/dining/kitchen/entry, all new cabinets, countertops, tile backsplash, not to mention painting all the walls, new baseboards. We are almost done at this point, and I've been decluttering, organizing and cleaning as we get areas back together. A week ago our pastor called and asked if we would host a man who was going to be our guest speaker at church this past weekend. My hubby, with still stuff to do on the cabinets, was hesitant, but I said "YES!" because I knew it would motivate hubby to get more done. The house was far enough along that I wasn't worried about it being perfect or anything. He wasn't coming to judge us, just to have a place to sleep and have a meal with us. Anyway, we hurried the tile guy to finish the backsplash, and my husband was putting the drawer fronts on the last of the kitchen drawers about 2 hours before Steve arrived. I had the guest room and bath all ready and the house was relatively clean and looked good. I even got a nap! We were ready and my house is much farther along than it would have been if I had said "no - no company". I can now go into the holidays ready to decorate. It's such a great feeling. So thanks for doing this challenge, Dana. Its' the perfect time of year for a little jolt before the holidays come leaping in.
you are absolutely not alone! (it really comes down to being an avoidance technique: doing something else that we WANT to do, rather than the harder task at hand that we NEED to do for the biggest impact.)
My mom turns 100 Jan 1st. She lives with us. So you guessed it. I will be hosting her Bday this year instead of Christmas. Thank you thank you so much for this. I’m so much better than I used to be. But we all need a plan and work that plan so practice makes it better….never perfect! Perfection is a fantasy.
Just moved to a new house. I want to have people over, soon. I don't want my home to look like I still settling in. This is perfect to help me stay on track. I want you to know you started my decluttering when I stumbled upon one of your videos. I am about finished with one of your books. I have the other one ready to play next. Thank you for sharing your experience with decluttering and how other ways of doing it didn't work for you. I felt like I was the only one that it didn't work for. Now, I know I am not alone.
I'm so relieved to hear that I'm not the only one who decides they need to do projects like hanging pictures and touching up paint *right* before guests come over! I need to clean up, not touch up. 🤣 Excited about following along for the 14 days!
I'm on Day Seven so far and wow! The difference it has made to my house! I feel so ready for guests! More than ever and I'm thinking of more things I'd like to cook in the future and more ways to have guests come over. This is such a shift from hiding away in a misery pile. Dana, your way of thinking is priceless. It's really what I needed. Thank you for helping us!
Just watched this a second time because I need all the help I can get. I really dont have time to wait for a book but believe that is where my most success will come from. I have been slowly "taking my house back" but still need daily motivation without spending an hour or so on youtube.
Dana, you are brilliant! its like you are looking inside my brain, and reading my thoughts!!! so many times, I'm focusing on something, and getting it beautifully clean and in order, but the big jobs and rooms are being left undone, I'm running out of time, and I'm STRESSED!!! And I have been washing up daily for all of 2021, bcuz of you! Thanks for the great advice!! :) xx
Really looking forward to this 14-day series! I have been dealing with some depression this past month or so and my house is definitely showing it. Even though I am doing any big gatherings for the holidays, I really want to be ready to have a few people over here and there. This 14-day process will also help me catch up where my depression has caused me to leave things undone. Thanks it's always!
BAHAHA ‘you might think to paint the ceiling in the garage’ That is totally how my brain works when stressed- rather than prioritize I do the dumbest thing first 😆🤦♀️ Thank you for this video series!!! You’re amazing! 😃
This is a wonderful series to do to help people for the holidays. Thank you so much. It doesn’t hurt that you’re hilarious - laughing helps everything!
How awesome do I feel that I've already got the dishes done, the fridge cleaned out, and my pantry is totally acceptable because it hasn't been that long since I've gone through it. Daily routines really do change your life. I'm still freaking out about my thanksgiving guests though, so I'm so grateful for this playlist!
This is brilliant tips and advice. Whenever I’m doing this “I wanna sort this out in such and such a time” I always write in what I’m already doing! So many people forget this,or underestimate how long things will take. This works especially well for people with chronic conditions, cos I can tell you, I’ve got to take my daughter to the dentist tomorrow, but it’s not just the appointment. It’s the travel their and back, the unpredictability of our bus system currently means you could be waiting an hour for your bus. Plus there’s the getting ready beforehand, and for me, I have many conditions and illnesses, which means that when I get home I know I won’t be able to just crack on and clean, I will probably need a few hours rest and maybe even a sleep. So all this is important to take into account, and I’m so glad someone finally said it! I’ve never watched heard or read anyone say this when sorting out a cleaning plan. So thanks Dana, and we’ll done! I’m not actually expecting anyone to come round, but I will take up the challenge, it’s my birthday in just under two weeks, so that will be nice to do it for that 🙂🦋💕
Happy birthday, Emma! Most people don't want to hear this, but I had chronic illnesses and diseases and I just want to encourage you that it is actually possible for them to stop cold and/or gradually go away. It happened to me. I wish you the best and pray it happens for you too. God bless!
I just love how I can relate to you, and how honest you are about how your brain works! Makes me feel normal and helps me to understand my expectations! 🥰
OMG! I totally decide to tackle major projects before guests arrive while leaving a sink full of dishes or a pile of clothes to fold. I'm so glad I'm not the only one. 😅
I had to chuckle when you got to the part about starting big projects like painting the ceiling, Ive been doing a big clean leading up to holidays (or other event) for years and Im so obsessive Ive actually cleaned out cupboards, closets, garage etc ... even my underwear drawers, like guests are going to go look in my underwear drawers! forget cleaning the windows and washing the curtains and rugs as long as those underwear drawers are clean your golden, LOL!
So glad this came up on my feed today. Over the last few weeks, my home has turned into a disaster due to working extra hours and being too tired to do anything else once I come home. Since today is my first day off in I don't know how long, I'm going to try to start this plan in hopes that I can get it back in order before the holidays. As always thanks for the great content and I look forward to the next video.
Dana! I’m using this 14 day series to prepare my home for my fourth baby to be born here. ♥️due date 12-2-2021 but picture it in three weeks! 😀I get easily overwhelmed and tend to procrastinate by not choosing to do the priorities. Like I was JUST contemplating painting the dinning room where we repaired the wall like 6 years ago and never got to. 🙄 What?! Then, haha, I clicked on your video and you talked about painting your garage ceiling instead of getting your living room ready. Making the list and dates makes so much sense! I told my husband, no fun things on the weekends anymore, we are focused on baby priorities. ( beyond caring for our three girls and him working from home 😉) I need to have a peaceful home that’s clean to be able to focus on labor in my home.
This is usually my thought process, but putting it on paper will help me be accountable and crossing off my list will be satisfying with the accomplishment. Now to do it….
I’m so glad I stumbled across your channel. I’m halfway through “How To Manage Your House…” The first place I’d look, take it there now, containers … oh my! These ideas are so helpful. And I thoroughly enjoy how you present them. My heart, as well as my clutter, is lighter. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this! I’ve been re-watching your videos and repeating your podcasts for motivation and advice for my upcoming apartment inspection. They do inspections every 3 months and every time it gets close I’m scrambling trying to declutter, organize and clean so I pass the inspection. Hopefully in the near future I’ll have it decluttered to satisfaction so it’s easier to maintain. I’m that slob that you once were and so I take your advice so seriously because I know I can do this way it’s just going to take some time and effort on my part. Thank you again!!🤗
Great timing. May need a month but this will give me time to deep clean some spaces that have already been organized. Great seeing you this weekend in Columbus!🤗🤗
Funny, I thought I was unique when I would be busy preparing for a holiday but busy on the wrong tasks! I would totally paint a room instead of declutter the living room.
I’m having family come over in a little more than one month - and though I’m now good at Doing The Dishes, I’m not there yet with the other things. And the people who will visit are Good At Being On Top Of Their Housework, so I want to show them that I’m doing better by myself. :-) Also, though Decluttering is not there yet... I Absolutely, Absolutely Love that your method is accessible. And doesn’t necessitate to Empty Everything. Thank you so very much for your help!
I don't want to admit this. . . Uhm, I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO DO THE DAILY STUFF!!!!!!! Sigh. Dana, I've been watching you for a bit over a year now, I'm in the Take Your House Back group, and I think I need to say this in print - I forgot that the daily things were important. I did them for a while, and life was good'er : ) Then I somehow just forgot about them and now life is less-good. Okay. Back to the daily things - with clearer expectations on what my day will allow. Thank You Dana!!!
This is so true. The daily things make all the difference and I always want to put them off because I’m tired and it’s “just a little and won’t matter”
So grateful for you, Dawn, and Cas. I can have people over on 5 minutes notice. The house isn't perfect, but its good enough. I had that scenario last month
🤣, you so read my mind, I instantly thought of renovating the guest room (painting furniture and wall/ceiling, window frames). Love from Berlin, Saskia 👋🏼✋🏼👋🏼✋🏼😊
Just finished your audiobook decluttering at the speed of life, and I’m pumped. The veil over my eyes has been lifted! Bless you! It was wow, hearing it put into words.
How to declutter at the speed of life and your tips on daily routine got my home to the point that I don’t need any notice for someone to come over. You’re amazing…thank you🥰
I found this incredibly helpful! I know I can go back and reference this anytime I have people coming over. Thank you so much for making this. I would love to see you make more series like this. 💕
We are hosting this year. Our big thing to tackle is our kids’ rooms since we are hosting grandparents and cousins. Plus, we like to do a big toy purge before the holidays. The kitchen is under control thanks to your methods.
No one coming to my place. I'm going out. But I am doing this. I want my home ready for the holidays. And the daily guidance will help me. I begin tomorrow, the 11th cause I have some organizational things for my kitchen I want to put together so they can be used now. I've saved each day in my RUclips lists so I have easy access. Perhaps I can also fit in a couple better in 1 hour declutter/clean/organizers.
🌈💫 This also applies to a pre-moving - getting ready to sell my house person! I need to get my house ready to do some projects and then photos for listing. This is awesome!!!
I've been decluttering for about a month now. I've been watching your videos and getting a lot of good information. Thank you! I'm having my family over for Thanksgiving and this video came at the perfect time. I'm feeling very overwhelmed like it's gonna take me at least a year to declutter but I'm gonna try.
The comment you made about needing to move things to take a picture- that is me and I need to make a change! I am a project brain person and I have ADHD so organizing, decluttering and cleaning in general is such a process for me. I love your books and I’m so ready to watch this 14 day series!
Please don't feel like you have to clean your house to have a me visit...... I'm a complete neat freak, but if I'm coming to your house I want to visit you, because your my friend! I don't care what your house looks like! De clutter/ Clean for yourself if you want to (and I always think it will benefit you to have less clutter to manage day to day)...... but your true friend wants to see you, more then they care about the state of your home 😃 ...... so please don't put too much pressure on yourself, life is too short!
This is true and I don’t feel my friends judge me. But it’s so nice to use the occasion to propel myself forward and make my home a nicer place to live in.
I think people DO judge. Cause i do! Got a family member whose house i will not spend the night at because it's not clean and there are sometimes pests. Her husband is a doctor - it's not a poverty thing. But it is just not clean so i will do a day visit but no way will i spend the night there and i'm pretty skeeved out about eating there.
I am ready for this. May not b alot of company over this holiday season. But my kids will b coming in & it makes it a conversational pc with my oldest, of how far I have came in the last years. Thank u Ms Dana. U r the best
So funny you are starting this challenge, I started this last week when I “volunteered” to host Thanksgiving. My brain so went to all the random projects. I have already tackled my bedroom. Not that I expect people to be in there, it had becoming my storage space while the rest of my house was fairly decluttered. I’m
Thanks Dana! Love this! Now that I'm older, I need more time to do everything, so I will make this my 21 day plan. I think I'll do the 14 day plan for my car.
People are coming over??! Time to start organizing the sock drawer and make sure I wipe down the back of the closets… they’ll definitely be checking there! 🤨🤣
Oh Dana, you're the best. I enjoyed this video so much, cos i don't have to do this. My house is now fine. Visitors can come. But it wasn't always so. The key, as you said, is doing things every day. Especially dishes. Mum taught me to have dishes done. Bed made. Loo cleaned. No dirty ashtrays (this is a long time back - now if ppl want to smoke they go outside - i don't own an ashtray!) and get rid of dead flowers. It works.
This is strangely on point. It seems I have watched this before, but I don't remember. In 14 days getting cataract surgery, so incentive is real. TFS ❤
Ok this sounds great. I want my house to look not cluttered. I do not work. I have read your first book. Just moved back into this house six months ago. Still trying to get this place to look good in a picture. Deep breath.
I started reading your books and applying your methods about a month ago. My daughter in law had great success with her house. I am SO HAPPY to see this work for me, too! I've tried so many years to declutter by organizing, cleaning and failing. Thank you! This is changing my life for the best!
Haven’t watched it yet… Starting it right now, but I want to say that that’s exactly how long it took me to get my living room front door open/guest ready! FOURTEEN DAYS!
Awesome program! Why? Why oh why!? Why do I always start crazy projects when I’m supposed to be getting ready for someone to come over? I don’t know. But I do it too!
I have exactly 14 days before hosting an event so this is rather timely!! But I have an emergency plan in place which is to lay a new tarp inside the garage and cart the mess out there, LOL. Sometimes you just have to be creative. Can’t wait to see how much I get done with your plan. I feel hopeful so Thanks.
Oh-my-goodness!Oh-my-goodness!Oh-my-goodness!Oh-my-goodness! I turned on RUclips & your Day13 video came up & I panicked! Yes, I saw this coming, but.... you know. 😏 I actually worked hard last week and made so much progress in the garage that my 4 year old grandson said "how did you do that?" LOL. I also cleaned allergen bombs (wet fall leaves) off the porch and even picked them up! My goal is to have the house decluttered by December 1 so we can decorate for Christmas. My brain is super pumped to get going on 14 days to guests! Yes, I have to trick myself into thinking people are really coming over. I just hope my body will cooperate. Thank you so much for being so vulnerable and transparent.
I LOVE that you are doing this series!! I have family coming at Christmas, but with home schooling 3 young children and life as a pastor family, I don't have many hour chunks of time. But this will help me organize and prioritize what to focus on first, maybe making it more a 30 day approach. You are the best Dana!
I have the same sense of humor. My laundry room has become a sudden priority when having guests over. Twice. My best friend and her daughter were overnight guests. We had fun walking through my laundry room every time we entered or exited the house!
So you just validated my entire existence lol. Every single time I have company coming over, I paint something, or build something, or do some crazy home projects and then have to hide my piles of laundry because I fell behind 😂😂. My husband thought I was the only person who did this lol.
Merry Christmas ❤ Hope you're doing well. 🎄 🕎 ♥️

"I'm so mature." Well, you did raise boys and teach in a classroom. That combination does tend to develop toilet humor in spades.
So excited for this series! Thank you, sweetie.
"I'm so mature..." Lol. That is so me
So relatable. This whole video is relatable but thankfully I have gotten to the point with decluttering that I can be people ready in less than and hour. You have been such a big help along with Dawn and Cass...the three different approaches helps me a lot.
What she said!
Seriously a power trio if I’ve ever seen one!
Someone tell me who Dawn and Cass are!
Dawn from The Minimal Mom and Cass from Clutterbug...they work with Dana on a private FB group...they each have RUclips channels as well.
@@theresahoward7216 Ahhhh, thank you!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Man! I'd love a dream like that! Bonus content!
I believe you. Dana is so real, she could easily seep into a dream. Lucky you!

🤣🤣🤣
I thought I was the only one who got those crazy ideas to paint, etc. instead of doing what REALLY needed to be done before having house guests.😂🤣😂
you are absolutely not alone!
My sisters visited me for a week. I had them help me hang pictures while they were here. I have been in this home 15 years LOL.
“Ya’ll, this is a different thing!” I literally hear your voice in my head all of the time. Some great ideas here. Can’t wait for Days 2-14.
"be strategic in your picture taking"
🤣🤣🤣
Just watched this a second time because I need all the help I can get. I really dont have time to wait for a book but believe that is where my most success will come from. I have been slowly "taking my house back" but still need daily motivation without spending an hour or so on youtube.
14 days of Dana and Reid!!!! How are you not at 500,000 subscribers and how can we help you get there? Live your combo of sassy and practical! ❤️🇨🇦
:) xx
Why would anybody "thumbs down" this video?
I’m not actually expecting anyone to come round, but I will take up the challenge, it’s my birthday in just under two weeks, so that will be nice to do it for that 🙂🦋💕
Happy Birthday this month Emma!!!
Happy birthday, Emma! Most people don't want to hear this, but I had chronic illnesses and diseases and I just want to encourage you that it is actually possible for them to stop cold and/or gradually go away. It happened to me. I wish you the best and pray it happens for you too. God bless!
@@cristinas4398 thank you 🙏🏻 😊
I just love how I can relate to you, and how honest you are about how your brain works! Makes me feel normal and helps me to understand my expectations! 🥰
Hysterical Dana!!! And also very helpful because I am the type to paint a garage ceiling instead of tackle the obvious! So thanks for that!!
OMG! I totally decide to tackle major projects before guests arrive while leaving a sink full of dishes or a pile of clothes to fold. I'm so glad I'm not the only one. 😅
What on earth would we do without you?
Be nice to yourself... and don’t forget to reward yourself for progress... or even effort.😁
@@wordwalkermomma4 Thanks for the encouragement. I really appreciate it.
( beyond caring for our three girls and him working from home 😉)
I need to have a peaceful home that’s clean to be able to focus on labor in my home.
This is usually my thought process, but putting it on paper will help me be accountable and crossing off my list will be satisfying with the accomplishment. Now to do it….
I have a love hate for the “do the dishes”. If feels so good. Probably my most hated chore. I’d rather lean the toilet. 😆 Such a good tip though.
I have family coming in exactly 14 days! I am so excited for these videos. I needed this. Thanks!
Also, though Decluttering is not there yet...
I love the end “credits” LOL
You are so DEAR, Dana, for doing this for us. I need my hand held virtually and this is exactly what will help. ♥️
Love from Berlin,
Saskia 👋🏼✋🏼👋🏼✋🏼😊
Thank you Danna this 14 day series is going to be so helpful. 💜
It also could be called. 14 days to being able to exhale in ur own house. Lol
Thank you. I only have two days, but the advice to focus on the room that we will be in is a good place to start.
Trying to convince myself I’m having company and I need to watch this for my “guests” 🤣🥴
Cue “the eye of the tiger” I’m doing this.
I literally have exactly 14 days until we host Thanksgiving. I needed this so bad thank you! Such good advice to lessen the overwhelming stress.
Just finished your audiobook decluttering at the speed of life, and I’m pumped. The veil over my eyes has been lifted! Bless you! It was wow, hearing it put into words.
Thank you for being so comical! At least I can laugh a little as we do this!!
How to declutter at the speed of life and your tips on daily routine got my home to the point that I don’t need any notice for someone to come over.
You’re amazing…thank you🥰
“It’s kind of a long name.”
Ha ha! 😂
I found this incredibly helpful! I know I can go back and reference this anytime I have people coming over. Thank you so much for making this. I would love to see you make more series like this. 💕
I'm so here for this!!! I've been binging your podcast and the motivation has been 🤌🏼
We are hosting this year. Our big thing to tackle is our kids’ rooms since we are hosting grandparents and cousins. Plus, we like to do a big toy purge before the holidays. The kitchen is under control thanks to your methods.
I’m doing this starting today. So grateful for your wisdom and guidance. 12 days to Guests.
Can I just say Reid’s credits are always my favorite part of your videos? 😀
It works.
Dana K White, you are a brilliant, brilliant woman!
BUSTED at 8:06 This is SO me ! THANK YOU
This is strangely on point. It seems I have watched this before, but I don't remember. In 14 days getting cataract surgery, so incentive is real. TFS ❤
Ebook purchased! Thank you Dana! Timing is perfect in prep for the holidays
Thank you for this, Dana!
All I can say is Bless You!! We are celebrating and I appreciate this gift to all of us who watch you and learn. Will a crayon work for the list???
Love this! Just started reading the Ebook last night, so it's perfect timing!
Wish this had come out a week ago since my parents are coming this weekend haha
Excellent timing. I have guests arrive in 15 days! I’m already starting…
Oh my , girl, you have my number ! (moving stuff to take a photo, etc).
I am going to try this again... one more time
*take three*
Thank you, Dana! I enjoy your videos ❤
Yes! Perfect timing, because I think we really may be having company come for a weekend in a couple of weeks!
Oh wow! This is right on time! We are having guests for my son's birthday on the 21st!
Bless you!!! I need this so much !! Thank you!
You are instrumental in me changing my life. So grateful I found you❤️
Perfect timing! My husband has offered to his family for us to host Christmas this year. I so need this.
Dana, you are my number 1 RUclips Star!
So you just validated my entire existence lol. Every single time I have company coming over, I paint something, or build something, or do some crazy home projects and then have to hide my piles of laundry because I fell behind 😂😂. My husband thought I was the only person who did this lol.
