Great video tho my man :)
That’s very funny
I've only been at uni for three weeks now, but I thought I'd still share a few things I've learned.
Number 1 - do the dishes right away. Many people I've spoken to have said that they have so many dishes to be done that they have no time to do them. If you wash dishes for 4 minutes every day, it's a lot less than 30 minutes once a week.
Number 2 - this one is especially for introverted people: decide on a number of events you're going to go to and don't worry about the rest. What I've done is go to one event of every type: one academic dinner party, one party at a night club, one scavenger hunt of the city, one group visit to the museum etc. And obviously then go to everything you want to go to, but don't feel guilty about not going to something if you've already tried it and didn't like it. This obviously doesn't apply to the things the uni requires you to go to, but the extra stuff.
Number 3 - everything will be okay even if you don't drink alcohol. I personally don't see the appeal of getting drunk but have had a lot of fun during freshers'.
Number 4 - not every day will be fun. My experience so far is that about every other day is awesome and every other is not. Don't feel pressured into thinking that every day should be the best ever, it takes time to get used to things. Obviously if you have the best time ever that's awesome, but it's also okay to not love every minute of freshers'.
Good luck to those starting uni soon!
I just started year 12 and honestly I’m scared for uni I’m quite quiet meeting people for the first time and it takes me a while to warm up to people and be myself, same as you I don’t get drunk very often because it’s just not my idea of fun so I’m just thinking I won’t fit in
@@sophies8313 I was feeling exactly the same way a few weeks ago, still do every now and then. I've had to get out of my comfort zone so much more than ever before in the last three weeks. But it will be okay, I believe that for both of us. I think you will probably enjoy the academic side of uni more than the social one, at least at first. I've just had my first few real lectures last week and have loved them. I know this is where I belong, whether or not I make a lot of friends, because I love the subject I'm studying. Also something to keep in mind is that you will probably have a lot in common with the people in your course: I study political science and have found that many people in my course have a really similar sense in humour because we joke a lot about politics and history. Being new at uni gives you a few really good ice breakers like "where are you from" and "why did you want to study this". This makes talking to strangers a lot more bearable. And remember once you're at uni to take time for yourself, I've definitely had a few nights where I've just watched Netflix in my room and relaxed. But don't stay in your every night, push yourself when you feel like you can, but not too much. I went to an event I really didn't feel like going to, but ended up having an awesome time even though I was the only sober one. Sometimes pushing yourself is worth it.
Never drink if you don't want to. I've found that people actually respect that choice and might even find it kinda cool. Some people might forget their morals (there was a game at our freshers' that encouraged stealing), especially when they're drunk, but don't feel that you have to do anything you don't want to. And also remember that your friends don't have to be from your course. Yes, that's the easy choice, but don't feel like you have to be best friends with people you don't like if that ends up being the case. I'm sure we both will enjoy uni a lot, even if we're not the party animal type. There are always people like us, I've actually gotten to know a few people who don't drink and have bonded with them over that even though they study completely different subjects.
You still have some time, don't worry too much about feeling ready for university just yet. Good luck with year 12, I hope you get into your dream uni when the time comes and have an awesome time there! Also sorry for the long message, I just had a lot to say 😆
Iiris J awww you didn’t have to type that much but thank you I read it all, it makes me feel a bit better, I guess in uni no one is going to know each other so I can just push myself to be more confident, good luck to you too
@@sophies8313 Go and see some uni's on open days in year 12, not just year 13. you will get a good feel for the place, and get more excited of the prospect of university. See the student union and what they offer. Get a feel for the town/city. On open days the students are very helpful and nice and will often stop and chat, which gets you used to chatting to people you haven't met before. You will feel more optimistic about university. And more and more people don't like drinking to have fun at uni these days, so your not alone and you will fit in :)
when you were answering the "will professors think less of you if you got through clearing" q I fully thought you were just gonna go "absolutely." lmfao
I moment of silence for the flight that was cancelled on Jack
To the person who is reading this
Hi i hope you have a great day. And if you're not just hold on you can do it.
thank you :) i hope you have a great day too!
Hello..thank you
To u too
Thanks you too
I’m literally moving out and starting freshers TOMORROW so this was incredibly well timed
Ritsu Holmes Good luck !!
Chloe Y thank u!!
Ritsu Holmes wow that’s quite early, I don’t start till 23rd
Ropsana Khanom haa yeah I’m one of the unlucky ones, most people I know don’t start until next week or the week after
paranoid android thank you!!❤️
I just finished my first week of uni, so I'd like to give a little advice that I'm definitely not qualified to give! The first few days can definitely feel super isolating and overwhelming. It can make you panic if you feel like you aren't making friends quick enough, but know that it takes a little bit of time! For me, it helped to go to all of the planned activities/events until I made friends beyond small talk. The other people at the events will be in the same boat, looking for new friends, so be persistent. If you're standing in a line, talk to the person next to you. Just putting yourself out there and being a bit vulnerable can make all of a difference. Multiple times this week someone has seemed quite cold and closed off but when I have struck up a conversation their demeanor changes; for a lot of people that cold vibe is just their being afraid!
Also, to anyone wondering about staying sober: for me, it has been completely fine. I normally drink but am on medication now where I cannot, so I haven't been able to drink at all during freshers. Honestly, it hasn't had any impact on my enjoyment of the week! To be honest, it's helped with having the energy to go to daytime activities and make friends. So if you aren't a drinker don't worry, there will be other people in the same boat, and Jack's advice was great in that you don't have to be drunk to be in the drinking spirit.
been a crap day but everything’s better now that you’ve posted ❤️
Sending all the love xx

to add a little to the answer about part-time jobs, i would really recommend getting experience in the field you plan to go into if you know it, paid if you can or voluntary! for example i'm doing an msc in forensic psychology next year so i'm volunteering in my local courts with witness service. i have another job too and only do it one day a week so it's totally manageable. it will really help you down the line both in applying for postgrad courses or just going into employment. i would say it gives you the edge over other people but at this point it's more of an expectation that you have experience in an area to get a lot of jobs, even if that's paradoxical. it can also really help you refine what you want to do as a job, gets you out in your uni town and gives you a whole separate social group.
The evidence on referencing is amazing, I did it at EPQ and it was a lifesaver to write everything down
For the referencing question: my tip is to use a citation manager! I started using one in the final year of my bachelor and felt SO stupid I didn't start earlier. Personally I use Mendeley, super easy, great way to have all your references in one place - also great if you want to find a particular reference from an essay you wrote a year ago!
Honestly props to my uni for letting us download pdfs of books from the library to keep
Sorry you had such a rubbish day, but I saw you in Brighton and was too shy to come up to you but you made my day :) I loved your trousers as well. Thanks for the video!
I was supposed to go university next year yet I’m going this year. I’m shook. I’m going a year early and this helped me so much all your videos have. I applied through clearing last week and these two weeks have been stressful but I am so excited for university now.
Going to Cardiff uni later this month to start an English degree- very excited and nervous! Your videos have inspired me throughout A levels, legit didn’t know how the study English Lit properly ‘til I saw your video on it! More recently I’ve been watching your uni vlogs to prepare/get hyped up for the start of student life. Thanks so much for continuously making such informative and entertaining content!!!
Going to Durham, St. Cuths in a few weeks! Exciting
What degree?
@@owenmills1596 General Engineering
Good luck!
Pray for me too
To come and study at Durham.
Literally watching this on the bus home, back from my Bank appointment 😂✌

Going to uni in 10 days so I’m so grateful for this video
You speak so softly, it’s so nice
I can't stop focussing on how cute your dog is in the background - the legs sticking out of the basket 😂
I’m off to uni in like 9 days and this was so helpful! Thanks :)
Starting my 2nd year in about 10 days, but this was still quite entertaining to watch.
When you said you'll be given lots of free time. I realised a Maths and English degree have a very different number of contact hours 😂
this is so helpful and calms down my nerves about the thought of uni! Thank you for this, btw I love your channel❤️
Watching this when I’ve already graduated bc dedication 🙏🏻
I'm moving into uni next Saturday! Thankyou for this video 💕
Never buy a book, you can always find a free pdf online
Awww so sorry about your flight :(( just received your planner yesterday and it’s been insanely good so far ! Thank you for designing something so amazing :))
Thank you for uploading this video despite of the though day you had.
This video helped me a lot. I really appreciate your work!👍

This is my fav yt channel😻

Yessss. I've been waiting for this video.
This is perfect timing for me! Just heading off to Uni tomorrow!
Yay you answered my question! I’m starting uni in 3 weeks and I’m terrified but this was a huge help ❤️
Always liking the video befor it even started😂 (i know it’s going to be great:)
I hope you’re enjoying bake off! Super excited it’s that time of year again haha
Christmas holidays are NOT holidays, in Belgium at least we have two weeks off directly before the start of exams. No one is organised enough to actually be able to treat that as a holiday, it's cramming weeks.
thank you so much for this video! i love your videos so much :)
not regreting using all my mobile data to watch this 🤟🏼✌🏻✌🏻
Not even in college yet but this was v helpful aha
Please do a video about your spreadsheet for referring x
i’m going to uni on 28th of september and i’m so scared - i feel like a child still

Alisha s ur going to school on my bday ah good luck 😂😭
saeeda aw thank you, happy early birthday!
Yesss i feel like this as well!!
Martina Avila glad i’m not the only one haha
Hey Jack!!! Love watching your videos, especially starting uni in 2 weeks!!! Small Sugestion for a video because I know you are a fellow bake off fan...an interview with Durhams bake off student Henry Bird!
Love a jack video 😊
No.1 tip for uni - make sure you own a Jackademic planner ;))
(no but fr it’s the best❤️❤️❤️)
I leave to go study forensic science at staffs in 8 days and im terrified but im also so excited
Wow that's amazing tho
Did you get "in the spirit of drunk" from Hannah Witton? genuinely curious ;D
I’m going to uni next year and I’m already so nervous about it because I have to move to another city which is far from my home town. So I’m not going to have a “safety net” (aka family and friends). Settling down in a city that i’ve never even been to and living on my own for the first time is kind of scary. I know that It’s going to be fine after a couple of weeks/ months yet that period of unease is going to be tough.
Would love to see a video comparing year 1 to 2, or 2 to 3
Just finished my first week at Uni. English major. Big OOF 😂💞
8:46 i just wheezed so much
🙂 such timings.
Great video!
going to so many open days atm so i really need this
sarah herring same. I’ve just booked my 5th
Morgan Bruce i’ve been to 4. was meant to go to 5 but my job said nope
sarah herring getting time off ain’t easy
Who is also still at high school, trying to survive somehow? 🙌🏼
Thanks Mister Jack ...
damn I do BA Geography and have around 16 contact hours a week
how great would it be if your maintenance loan was enough to actually go towards your food
What should I do if I don’t wanna go clubbing? Like is that gonna make it harder to make friends
A lot of other opportunities to make friends, societies, sports and of course classmates. I don't recommend clubbing anyway.
His dog in the background 😍
1:57 "absolutely..." Then my WiFi cuts out
Vid starts at 1:51
hello ! my name is Jack and welcome JACK to my channel
Nice work
I start uni on Monday I’m so nervous
Best of luck
7:28 and from now on all I'll be looking at is those lil paws popping out
I’m starting university in just over a week and I can’t wait to start my journey to becoming a teacher! I can’t wait to start studying, finally meet the people in my group chat and join the Harry Potter society 😂
i’m starting at nottingham next week but it was my insurance choice and i was waiting on remarks, so i’m sharing a house with 2nd years which makes me even more nervous about making friends ahh
I was distracted watching his cat fitfully napping in the chair off to the side
Btw, when does the maintenance loan paid? Is it right at the start of each term or a couple weeks after
You can find out on the student finance website, but I get mine on the 30th of September.
@@ellieclayton1953 Ah ok fair, i checked and mine is on the 23rd apparently, so is that the day it's paid on?
@@cranklinflinton I think so, it should be a couple of days before your first rent is due.
@@ellieclayton1953 Oh yeah that does make sense, cheers lass
I'm not even going to uni until 2020 but I'm already stressing because my maintenance loan I get won't even nearly cover most accommodation fees each year as the accommodation at uni's I've looked at is around £150 a week so I will need to try and work to get the extra £2000+ a year and then find money for food... help😂
What is the best laptop for uni?
crotchbox - i screamed 😂
Hi! What do you use to film yourself?
so informative !! thank you so much (-':
Check 7:28🐶
When is your Chinese series coming??
Can I use Unite student even though I'm in year 13 and not *yet* (hoping 🤞) in Uni
I sorted out my accommodation with Unite Students once I firmed my offer so I would wait until you have all of your offers and have put your firm and insurance into ucas. But no harm in looking for accommodation for your chosen university early
@@katiehopkinson83 thankyou for the advise, I thought the uni gives you the accommodation for first year? Oh well, thankyou I'm going to have a look at it now x
@@13LoveRosey most unis will give you accommodation for first year but you can choose to go private if you want to. I went through private accommodation with Unite Students because it worked out best for me and I didn't want to risk not getting my preferred accommodation choice. But it totally depends on university and how they allocate their accommodation. I hope this helps x
@@katiehopkinson83 ahh okay, that makes sense thankyou
who else was just staring at the dog in the background hoping he would emerge the entire video?? because yes you bet I was
I’m doing my second year in college on the 9th can’t wait after college im doing a full time job I won’t go to uni I’m not smart enough xx
University isn't really to do about being smart. It's about how much work you're willing to put in. I'm doing a science degree and the reason I'm doing well is because I put in a lot of work
Just a question, why is one of Jack's ears shorter that the other at the top?
Anyone got any tips for people specifically that are commuting? All content I can find is very based on people who live at uni and I’m v scared and awkward
One question guys:
Is it worth attending all five days of freshers induction week or shall I just go to work and make money?
Thankssss👍🏼
Go to work, freshers week is pretty overrated and pointless to be honest. Just focus on work and you will be much better off
“And you just get the debt”😂
I’m starting second year in a few days, pray for me!
No need!
How do you decide on a major ?
Hiya
If you do like a maths or finance course how would you do independent research as you can’t exactly revise much in maths apart from formulas...
Megan M i did maths at a level n id say the best way of revising is just by doing practice papers! that way you strengthen your current skills and get to build on your weaker areas
What happened to your glasses?
...Guys any tips for students who are living at home for making friends and going to freshers :(
Don’t worry so much about making friends at freshers. Introduce yourself to the person next to you in your first lecture- then say hi at the next lecture that’s how I made friends. I did this in lab class too :) you’ll be fine. I’m a mature student and I made friends even though I lived away from campus
I'm a commuting student and didn't do any Fresher's events in the evenings and only attended required lectures and the fairs. Honestly I worked myself up about making friends but it was super easy! Join the class group chat if you can find it (post on the fresher's page asking if there is one you can be added to). This really helped me find people who had similar interests to me. Then don't be afraid to say hello to people on your first day, they'll be just as scared as you! I promise you won't be the only commuting student either, I have three close friends who are too. So many people will be in the same boat, you won't be alone in that!:)
Thank you so much for al the advice! :)
7.25 right hand bottom corner.... you won’t regret it (Jack i also haves brown cocker spaniel called archie who’s older so u totes copied us but it’s ok because I love ur videos hehe ;))
I thought it would be interesting
Going to university in 3 weeks and shitting my pantaloons. Actually nervous that I am not smart enough uf
Bad things come in 3s
What degree are you studying?
Yeah but can Jack speak for Northern Ireland?
Was asking myself the same thing😂
What’s the difference between lectures and tutorial?
Lectures are just professors talking about their subjects
Tutorials are more interactive
