This one isn't ours. We were just doing work and a test flight on it. However we did just get one yesterday and it's amazing but doesn't have as much avionics.
Great video, using good Tech makes it a lot safer , if you have the correct tools to use why not, I think this system has made the R66 much better, Cheers Regards Trevor.W.Bacelli. Biloela Qld Australia
Absolutely cool!!! I tryed an R44 a few weeks ago for first time and i did hover perfectly during two mins !!! That was the ride of my life at Capital Helicopter... Your R66 seems well equipped !!
Why two? If your going to waste money get a Bell 407 be about same price as 2 R66 2 million + depends on options and you would get a 4 blade rotor not as much vibration is what that equals. Just saying.
Great video as always! Regarding the autopilot, well that’s what it is supposed to do, isn’t it? But that’s not what flying a VFR helicopter is supposed to be. If you pay USD 600 or more per hour to fly that thing, you may as well enjoy being at the controls.
Awsome could have done with something resembling that back in my RAF Wessex flying days, how is it in rough , windy weather ?and ease of override should you need to in a real hurry, not like the action you went through.
Damn that R66 is god damn awesome. Technology like this should really improve safety. I'm assuming decreasing pilot fatigue on long flights is going to make a huge difference. And turbines are just awesome.
does it have any kind of self leveling feature? For instance several AP systems come with an emergeny auto level button in case you become disoriented, you just push it and it rights the plane.
Mischa.....you will never be out of a job. Flight Management Directors in a R66 still can't do an auto to the ground. However, you guys are making the future of drones look awfully good to Amazon! I know, I know, even the US Army has them in blackhawks. Now I can truly say I flew by the seat of my pants.....with night vision goggles!
I like the concept and technology of helicopters minus the super long dangerous rotors on top that can chop up a person entering or exiting the copter.
Well it actually happened in the opposite order. That wasn't our R66. However we do have one now. I am currently uploading the first video of our trip back from Florida with it.
I would like to become a a helicopter mechanic so if i lived i BC i would apply for a apprenticeship at BC Helicopters. You are a great bunch of people.
Pilot Yellow Fortunately or unfortunately, I am not sure. For starters, the autopilot has no concept of height (altitude above ground level). So it can’t really make that call. As a minimum it would need input from a radar altimeter.
Problem is that it may make idiots like me think they can fly a helicopter, the most inherently unstable form of transportation in the world! Will autopilot hover and land the craft?
@@nobodyimportant0_o forgive the dumb Q (I’ve not used such posh kit) but as you sound like you know it well, what is the GTN750 doing that the left screen of the G500H isn’t? At first glance they appear similar. They’re obviously not, since nobody would double up....
Just set a timer to wake you up before landing... Nice.
this is sick, gives the pilot the best visual experience, with ease when in control.
Auto pilot sounds Brilliant, great for long flights, reducing workload and allowing pilot to do other stuff like navigating, and of course texting.
This is super cool
Those avionics look amazing. Longer flights will be so much easier for you guys, that is awesome!

By far the most crazy équipement i saw on a Robinson! Awesome!
Absolutely cool!!!

I suppose the collective is still manual?
Wow. About time they gave that feature to helicopters
When i win the US Powerball lottery tonight i will buy two!!
Sounds good :)

That wold be the dumbest thing you could do with your money.
I would buy a crap load of kitten treats for my kitties!!!!
so did you win?
Sweet...very nice for long flights!
What about climbs and descents? Does the autopilot act on the collective as well?
Great content Pilot Yellow! Autopilot would be fantastic in a Robison. Hopefully the upgrade is still affordable.
Cool video. Name of song?

Yes, but the autopilot is a great safety net should you accidentally fly in cloud.
Plus it is great for long trips!
Agreed, but for longer flights or flights into IFR/IMC then this thing would come in handy.
Excellent. Video great to watch thank you
Always sync your heading bug before engaging HDG mode.....we call it "Good housekeeping" ;) DO my R66 rating this year I hope
Nice auto Pilot... Thanks for sharing
Have a safe flight 👌🚁🚁👌
I’d seen this type of system in an AW109 but not an R66, very cool 😎 😁👍
Very nice review thank you👏👏
That's fantastic! Thanks for the great video!
I like the way you talk to ATC like they talk to pilots (like an auctioneer)😎
Love the videos keep them coming !!!
How incredibly envious I am, what a wonderful career. Maybe some day.
Where in Canada are you?
Have it on my R44. Works great.
Can you get it in R22 or the Cabri g2?
How come you didn’t use an autopilot on your world tour?
Awsome could have done with something resembling that back in my RAF Wessex flying days, how is it in rough , windy weather ?and ease of override should you need to in a real hurry, not like the action you went through.
Easy to overtake the controls if you need to and I think it would help stabilize you in the wind.

It's pretty amazing.
Very nice Avionics suite.
May I ask how do you manage get the audio working in your clips?!
do something with the T-bar cyclic and your almost there
Pls make a video on affordable helicopters that can be purchased
Does such a thing exist?
R66 is the best helicopter EVER! Thanks for your amazing Videos ;)
That's awesome, I'm glad you love it. We are very excited about getting one.

I think I just spotted the 66 and 44 heading east out of Abby at 0948 hours and now back west to cyxx area. Looks like a 007 chase!☺
Haha nice.
wow how fantastic and exciting...
Does it also control the anti torque pedals.
No just holds altitude and heading.

Very cool feature! Will it do auto hover?
I don't kno how how much that cost but it's probably well worth it!!! I wish Kobe's pilot was using this type helicopter. RIP 2/24!!!
Great video! Just lose that background music. Makes concentrating on what your showing us quite difficult 👍
Seems to be as much vibration in an R66 as you find in an R44 :/
Incredible 👌🏼
Can it do an ILS or GPS approach?
That is very cool!

Goddamn how much did that set you back
I like the concept and technology of helicopters minus the super long dangerous rotors on top that can chop up a person entering or exiting the copter.
I'd be more concerned with the anti-torque than the main rotor... unless you're 12' tall of course.
Did I miss an episode wen you got the r66 ? I didn't know you had one ?!?
Well it actually happened in the opposite order. That wasn't our R66. However we do have one now. I am currently uploading the first video of our trip back from Florida with it.
That is totally awesome ! I watched it. What a great video. Keep them coming buddy!
what was the purchase decision behind the 66?
How realistic or practical would true IFR flight be on this platform? Turbine/Garmin/Autopilot? Thanks 👍🏻
Michael Autry it’s not legal for actual IFR but it would be amazing if nothing failed. It would be super easy.
Great Video! Tks!
nice auto pilot in a chopper wow
Is the speed also controlled by the autopilot? Or how are you controlling the speed?
Maxobil the auto pilot control attitude so you still operate collective and pedals.
Yes what Chris says is right. You just set power and it holds speed because Attitude is constant.
Wow! A dream for long trips. You can scratch your nose and drink a can hands off !
thats awesome
Tks
How far are we from it shooting an ILS haha?
Wow sweet. I was wondering if choppers had autopilot!!!! Great videos!! Keep em coming!!!
most dont, this is very new technology
What another $60,000 to the price ?
I would like to become a a helicopter mechanic so if i lived i BC i would apply for a apprenticeship at BC Helicopters. You are a great bunch of people.
That’s awesome, I can set the autopilot and start knocking back a few beers🍻🍻🍻
Bottoms up boys!! (I’m kidding)
How fast does it drop the collective after a power failure?
This system doesn't pull the collective down after an engine failure unfortunately.
Pilot Yellow Fortunately or unfortunately, I am not sure. For starters, the autopilot has no concept of height (altitude above ground level). So it can’t really make that call. As a minimum it would need input from a radar altimeter.
Yes that's a good point, you wouldn't want it to pull it down at 15 feet.
Radar Altimeters are dirt cheap, that should be included...
Fancy!
Incredible stuff, but I feel like I would never turn it on. Lol maybe when I have 7000hrs I'll use it
Ya I hear ya, we fly helicopters to FLY helicopters.
Wow
Its a SAS unit not an autopilot.
Just hit the HE™ (hold everything) button. Trademark aproved, merchandise in the Trump store
