HDT DITCHED FOR MEXICO! Camping on the Beach. Mexico Border was different. RV Lifestyle. Fulltime RV

- We've done the planning and research as much as possible so now it's time for the rubber to hit the Mexico road. We're going down to Puerto Penasco or Rocky Point for the first time. We were denied in our HDT rig two years ago but we're two years smarter and now have a plan to get across....we hope.
Our trip takes a turn towards the East Coast. So we are almost done with our 2024 Western Leg of our Summer of 2024. Does that make sense? We want to detour down to Mexico before we get to the coast. Camping in Mexico is an itch we have to scratch. Let's hope it doesn't bleed.
We are not Snow Birds but we do like nice warm weather and heading west is the best.
Come join our Facebook Group, Big Truck Big Travels to get more details on our travels such as Alaska itinerary, annual costs and such.

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to RUclips channels Suite Travels, Switch it Up and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in our discovery of What's Next.
I get my music from:
Epidemicsound.com
Tracks:
Bahame by Bad Rabbit
The River's gonna Cry when you're gone by Loving Caliber
Playing at the Beach by Isobelle Walton
Cuondo Baja el Sol by Alcones Negros
Sunset Serenade by Dvine

We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.
The big blue boards (XL version) we use sometimes to get us "un-stuck" is from:

Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
Vehicles:
2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL

Im glad you enjoyed your stay in mexico by the beach, most of all you guys don't make any negative comments about my country, you are so welcome back anytime you wish, safe travels.
Thanks, Javier. We really enjoyed it and plan to do a winter trip down Baja California.
Si mexico muy bonito hasta que les toque unos desgraciados o policías corruptos, yo por eso yo no visito y menos manejo en mexico
I'm so very happy you had a safe trip.
In I think, 1977, when traveling through Mexico was still pretty safe, I was in the University of Arizona Marching Band in Tucson, the Governor of Sonora, Mexico, invited the band, all 210 of us, to march and perform for them in their Carnivale in Guaymas. We rode in very comfortable modern busses down very good roads to Nogales, AZ. Then we had to cross into Mexico on foot through the border offices where we were then picked up by very uncomfortable Mexican busses. They took us over very rough roads to a two-story motel outside of Guaymas where sand came out of the shower heads. It was right on a rocky beach that had a nice boardwalk which we enjoyed in the evenings after our duties of the day were finished. We stayed there for 3 days and had to march in their parades every day and give concerts in the city square twice a day. The busses would pick us up every morning and take us into the city for our day. It took a long time for the restaurant to feed all of us for each breakfast and lunch, but they fed us very well. We were brought back to our motel after our 2nd concert and were on our own for dinner. A group of us discovered a very nice resort nearby our motel where we had a really great meal. On our last day after our morning concert, the Governor had invited us to a brand new resort further up the coast where we were treated like his guests of honor and had a wonderful brunch outside with a live band and dance floor. That resort had a really nice beach. The Governor greeted us and thanked us for our performances. We headed back home the same way we had come, tired but filled with happy memories.
It is one of my favorite memories from college. I often wonder if we were part of the reason Mexico became interested in having their own school marching bands that you can see now every year invited to the Tournament of Rose's Parade.
LOOK UP CANDY CAKE GREAT BREAKFAST BE THERE EARLY 8:AM CAUSE IT GETS FULL FAST.
Wow! Thanks for sharing! That is a super cool story. I love it!
Bands were already there just not that big I'm assuming. My mom was in a marchind band in the university she attended in Mexico. She graduated in 75
Es mucho mas inseguro tu país que México, aqui recibimos a los extranjeros con alegría y los brazos abiertos
@@FranciscoJesusSalcidoEnr-ey3xi😂😂 otro alucin México seguro 😂😂 no digas pendejadas
You two were the best! I love how you two made Mexico happen. Yay for the Smart Car 🚗
Thanks so much!! We were determined!
What fun that you switched it up and did some tent camping. The food looked great at your new favorite eatery and your soaring videos and photos of the scenery were lovely. I'm glad Sondra found stickers!
Lots of fun. Great food. Sondra was so excited she found stickers 😍! Great trip. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks
My wife and I love your videos and have a great time watching them. We traded our 36 foot Newmar class A to a 2024 pottery barn airstream trailer and get inspiration when watching your videos. Keep them coming and maybe we will see you on the road.
That is awesome! You'll have fun. Maybe one day we'll see you on the road.
Did you notice the difference? In the United States people stand on the corner and ask for money. In Mexico they stand on the corner with tools to work.. they don't want a handout they want to work I have a hard time seeing people that are snobbish when they enter another country.
Yes, Deborah, very aggressive but they don't just want a handout. They want to earn it and feel good about it. It's a different culture but we really enjoy it. Thanks 😄
In mexico they won't pay anless u work 😂😂😂
Then why are your wet backs coming over here and getting everything from the government our government

I found you guys yesterday and I'm loving it. This is me watching my dream. We retired in 2010 after being self-employed for 30 yrs. The big "C" came unto play that year, and we lost him in March 2017. Continue on and enjoy this time. Cherish every moment God gives you. Be safe.
So sad for what happened but glad you found us. We're excited to have you along on the journey. 😊

. Mexico beach was beautiful. Love the pelicans. Take care. Safe travels.
Glad you like them! Sondra had a thing for them. Thanks for watching.
Some bad news from Mexico about the 3 surfers that were killed camping on the beach. Mexico is not a safe place .
You all are brave as the San Diego. Even tent camping thumbs up to you you go.
Thank you. It was great weather which helps.
I loved watching your video. I love the good vibe you guys have as a couple. Greetings from Albuquerque. Safe Travels!!!
Thanks so much! We enjoy the Albuquerque area and the Balloon Fiesta is so much fun. We took the train up to Santa Fe and had a blast.
Thank you for another trip you both .
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
I'm amazed you packed all the comforts of a room into the car!! Great job! Hubby and I always get a good laugh while traveling with you in the videos. Wildlife is appreciated anytime, Sondra! Stay safe and be Blessed.

Love the Pelicans, they are so majestic. Thank you so much

Always carry your camera, Sondra!
This was a beautiful trip. The beach was awesome, especially the sunset. This gated beachside campground is a splendid idea! Thank you for taking us Smart Car camping and for the laughs, the scenes, the calcomanias, and the adventure. Safe travels👍🏾

Glad you made it to Rocky Point great place to visit. Have fun, stay safe.
Thanks 👍
Really appreciate Sondra’s love for photography as it benefits us all. Noticed M & M were sitting upright in travel this time. Think it’s great that you would go tenting by the beach. Yippee for pelicans & stickers. And oh that no peeing sign was hilarious 🇨🇦 ❤
Thank you. That sign was too funny! Never expected to see it!
Thanks for taking us to Mexico! I have never been there and will never make it there now! Thanks David and Sondra!! Love your adventures!!❤❤❤
Our pleasure! We're so glad to have you along on the journey. 😊
Hi guys!! Beautiful beach front property for your tent camping!! So funny we started camping with a big tent when thekids were young, got a tent trailer, then a 28' pull behind. Now in our 42' 5th wheel full time by ourselves. Don't think we'll ever go back to a tent!! 😂 Thanks for taking us along, stay safe...💜
😆 🤣 Thanks. The tent was good for a short time... but we really enjoy our home on wheels.
Love watching your travel's. Tell Saundra this saying about pelicans. A fabulouse bird is a pelican, it's beek can hold more than it's belly can, a pelican beek can hold food for a week, and i don't know how the hellican. LOL Enjoy your travels and the eclipse video was great kudos guys for taking us all along for the journey.. Steve & Dan
Ok, that's too funny. Sondra said she's going to print out your pelican saying and put it in her journal! Now, you're famous! Thank you for that.
Great video tonight, I loved the pelican pictures.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks. Great pizza last night and enjoyed our time.
I really enjoyed your video, nice content, nice pictures, nice edition !
Thank you very much! We really appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
Loving the tent setup! I’m not a tent camper but this makes me want to give it a try.
It was very comfy...but the weather was perfect for tent camping so that definitely helped.

Glad you like them! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the channel. It was a fun trip.
I drove from Watertown, NY to visit Arizona in my 1964 Buick Electra 225 Sport Coupe in 1976! A fantastic trip with amazing scenery! I assume it has changed a bit since then!!!
Just a bit... sounds like a fun trip back then!
Didn’t expect that from one extreme to the next, great video you guys win the most adventurous award for RVs side trips. Love Rocky point spend a couple weeks there every year.. 👊👍😎

Love that you were not above camping in a tent again. I'm impressed and share my admiration of you both. Thanks for sharing your videos. Safe travels!
Our pleasure! We enjoy going back to our "roots" of camping...but we do miss the comforts of home for sure! Enjoyed the beach and the atmosphere but it was good to get back home. Thanks for watching.
Loved how you got into Mexico! There's more than one way to skin a cat , Smart Car saved the day! Beautiful Country!! Thankyou from southern Indiana, God Bless both of you! Monna
Glad you enjoyed it, Monna! That was pretty Smart of us, wasn't it?!? Lol 😆
😂❤😂 I knew you would have a SMART comeback! 😂😂😂
You’re not boring. I believe we’re the same age, and my days of sleeping on the ground are over. Thanks for showing us Why, Arizona and your beach camping.
😆 🤣 Thanks, Kathy. We'll do it... but we need a little "air time" to be comfy!
That is a beautiful property!❤ Congrats on your new home! 🎉❤
Thank you, Sherri. We love it and was very unexpected.
Great video, Sandra❤
Thanks. Appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
Beautiful scenery! I love the desert and really miss it all the way from Maine!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
So far so good 👍
Yay! Thanks for the comment.
We went to Rocky Point years ago when I was a teen with a busload of kids. We swam in the water, and it was like bathwater--really warm. I don't remember anything there except the beach and a little bitty town. It sure has changed since then. Thanks for the great video!
We're glad you could see it again. Thanks for watching, Phyllis and the water was nice.
My brother in law lives in Rocky Point. FYI don't have to stop for sighs on a green light... LOL love you guys..
😆 🤣 Thanks. We figured it out after a day but it was real confusing at first!
Watching these two makes me not take a vacation bcz iam in vacation with them …..😂😂😂😂
Oh yeah, Sam. Sit back, buckle up and enjoy the ride... for free! 😆 🤣 Thanks
Thanks for the video. Love those pelicans, too. Sondra you got some great shots. I Spend the winter in TX about 45 min. from South Padre Island so get my beach and bird fix pretty often. 😎
Nice winter area. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Elephant in the room: We are new Newell owners from Canada and just love you guys. Thanks and we are watching you.
Nice! Newell produces a nice RV. Hope you enjoy your travels in it.
Great video Great camping
Glad you enjoyed it, Carolyn. We had a fun time.
Now that my friends was an adventure David & Sondra style. They were determined and finally found a different way to get there. Pictures and videos as always were gorgeous! bravo to the 2 of you. We made it to San Diego today and will be “camping” at the Hilton on Harbor Island for the next 8 days while we explore the area. Thanks for your suggested place to visit a while back. I will look forward to next week’s adventure. Seems like you all went east and we went west! Happy Trails to You … until we met again … on RUclips, be safe.
Enjoy SD, it's a cool area. Thanks for watching and appreciate your comments.
Thanks for sharing 😊😊😊
Appreciate your time watching.
Our Thermo Hydro Specialist is at it again! I'll bet the water is a lot warmer there than it was in the Arctic. Great stuff as usual. Glad you're back safe.
Ok...I like that title! Thank you and we made it back safe. Woohoo!
Welcome to Mexico I hope you enjoy your stay in my country Mexico
Gracias! It was great. We really enjoyed the beach atmosphere especially since the weather was fantastic. Thank you for watching the channel.
My husband and I have been watching you for several months now (a few videos back you said that you knew people were watching but they hadn't yet subscribed. I think you said something like, "You know who you are!" Yeah, that would be us 🙄😂). David, don't knock Sondra's stickers! I have basically bonded with her over that...and the Memory Keeping too. My Dave doesn't understand it either. He once told me that I won't use up all of the stickers I have before I die 😂. We watch and look forward to your videos each week. We are planning to spend this coming winter in the Southern U.S. (Snowbirds from Ontario, Canada; how cliche is that?) and you have given us so many ideas of interesting things to do and great places to visit while we travel (we have a 38 foot fifth wheel). We'll definitely be watching (and then we'll literally be watching for you on the road when we get down there!). THANK YOU so much for all of your hard work and taking the time to videotape your experiences. It's a valuable resource and we really appreciate it!
Glad you finally subscribed...right?!? 😆 🤣 But really excited to have you along on the journey. I feel for your Dave on the stickers! I know what he's going through! 😆 🤣 Safe travels across the border and hope to see you on the road.
You got it done! Not sure I could give up all of the comforts just to stay on the beach. You guys are certainly adventurous, well done 👊
Thanks. We were determined! We definitely missed the comforts of home but it was nice to get away and camp.
Just keep gettin better😊
Thank you so much. We try to keep it real, keep it good and keep it getting better. Appreciate your support.
Great video! We had planned to be in HS, Ark for the eclipse, unfortunately we had a life event in December that kept us grounded in the southeast.
I saw a total eclipse in our home town in the upstate 7 years ago.
Sorry to hear that but hope everything worked out. It was a cool event. 😎
This is smart plan travel long distance it is awesome I love that
Thanks, David. We thought it was a smart way to do it.
Thanks for including me on your roadtrip to Puerto Penasco. Maybe a bit crowded for all of us in the Smart car, It was a great vlog and visit! 👍
Our pleasure! Glad we could "fit" you in the Smart! I was wondering what that noise was in the back! 😆 🤣
Love. Love, love Rocky Point! Great, safe route.my dog is from Barb's dog rescue in Rocky Point.
That's very cool!
I am impressed that you got ALL THAT STUFF in the Smart. I thought Roger was the master, I think you guys have taken the packing to another level.
😆 🤣 Thanks, Marcel and that's an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as Roger regarding Smart packing! We had to up the ante to get to Mexico... thinking outside the box!
Another great vid...I enjoy your travels...kev 🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
Very informative and fun video. Looks like an interesting place..Two weeks until we get our Airstream.
Sounds great! That's exciting! Hope it goes smoothly when you pick it up!
I am going to say I love watching your videos and wish I could travel and have some fun adventures as well. Stay safe and enjoy your time.
Glad you like them! Thank you so much.
The photos of the pelicans are awesome.
Thanks. Sondra did good!
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful pictures of the pelicans. You may have exceeded the cargo carrying capacity of the Smart Car...LOL Enjoyed the video.
Glad you enjoyed it... it's possible... we sort of "eye balled" the weight and guesstimated it. We were very close... that's all I've got to say about that! 😆 🤣
Funny when you arrive at the camp ground and you told him you were from Texas his face expression was like you drove the snark car all the way from Texas in that little car lol like always another great video
Yes. That was priceless! Worth the trip! 😆 🤣 Thanks for your comments.
Loved the trip!!❤
Glad you enjoyed!
Hello good video❤❤
Hello! Thanks for watching.
Wow
I like life in this car so much
It's small but mighty!
Geez oh Pete, I will be praying for your safety while you are down there. I hope you have protection, this isn't 1950! Please be alert and stay safe!
My thoughts exactly 😮
Always aware of our surroundings. Thank you very much. They want tourists so it's pretty safe.
Wanted to add. I sure enjoy your travels
Awesome, thank you!
very nice video
Thanks. We really appreciate your comments.
But my issue is that I like the suit they use for sailing, it looks very comfortable, many blessings for both of them wherever they are. And keep uploading more videos for everyone's pupil.
Thank you, Francisco. We will continue the videos... but you have to watch them! 😆 🤣
It’s a good thing that Sandra has a photographer’s eye. She sees what you should be seeing. 😊
It's a very good thing. I have no eye for such things apparently. Appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
honest reviews like it ! follow you since the beginning

Love your video ❤
You are so kind, Lucy. We are excited to have you along on the journey. 😊
@@bigtruckbigtravels puerto Penasco is my favorite place to visit I I live in Mexicali Baja California
Hi guys, remember when people uses to see how many people would fit in a mini, that's what I was thinking watching you pack the smart car. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Mexico we only seem to get the bad news out here. Safe travels
😆 🤣 We always wait for the car to tip back when loaded like that! Bad news sells so it's usually what gets aired. We have always had a great experience in Mexico... but then we try to go to the good areas. Thanks, as always, for being a part of the journey.
I love travelling ..you guys made me feel awesome travelling through beautiful place like penasco Mexico..my biggest dream to travel such places if possible ..thanks for sharing your travel vlogs ..you both looks very nice couple caring for each others ..greetings from Pakistan ❤
Greetings Zafar! Glad you enjoyed it and excited to have you along on the journey. 😊
Hi, I'm from Belgium and have been following you for some time. And I find jou are a pleasant and funny couple and enjoy your vlogs immensely. I wish I could live life like you, but unfortunately I can't due to financial problems. But definitely keep going, thanks for this. Kind regards Kurt
Thank you so much! We're excited to have you along on the journey. 😊 We want to get over to Europe some day and see that area.
Friends, thank you for sharing your adventures and wonderful moments, Sandra por favor muéstranos tu colección de calcomanías, and every time you buy a calcomania, show us which one did you buy, and congratulations on those photos
You're welcome. Oh... she'll get lots of calcomanias! We'll try to show them in the future.
You got her a beauty 😅…love it
😆 🤣 Thanks...I think... 😆
David and Sondra sálate from Mexico City. I just want to tell you that you are the best all the pictures and scenes you take in the north, south, east or west are incredible. Your travel into Mexico and the food was just a wish for me to visit that part of. Mexico but when you say “Oh that’s wild” it looks that we Mexicans are wild. That we live in the wilderness, and you know what? You are right you are totally right. The stop signs was really funny. I want to invite you to visit other sites of Mexico take a fly and visit Cabo’s or Riviera Maya or the beaches in Oaxaca let you be treated like king and queen in a five star hotel or visit Mexico City and see the magnificence of the museums and the Aztec ruins. Pyramids. My best wishes in your travels and God bless you always. And remember living in the wilderness is some times very fun.
Thank you. We plan to travel down to Baja in the future and see the other areas of Mexico. When we say "that's wild", we mean that it is very different from our expectation or what we're used to and familiar. It's part of the reason to visit other countries is to be exposed to those "wild things". We love the food, culture and people of Mexico which is why we continue to travel there. Gracias for your comments and watching the channel.
Rocky Point is awesome. We have a condo right down the beach from your campsite and go often, rent it when we’re not there. Glad you went and showed how good the road is and the beauty of Rocky Point., one of our favorite places in the world. Stop signs at lights are confusing. You are good if light is green. Sometimes they don’t work, though. Thus the stop signs. I hope you can go back and spend some more time, hopefully with your rig. If so, check out Playa Bonita campground.
Thanks for the tips! We enjoyed Rocky Point and the people. Great place for a condo. Next time we'll be in our Class C.
Awsome pelican 📷s👍
So 😎 🆒️ thanks
oh that was so neat thank you for sharing. Smiles from Southern BC where it maybe starting to warm up over 55f =) finally
Glad you enjoyed it! Hoping for spring for you soon.
If you put wheels on the luggage rack your smart car would have a wheelie bar, it might need it if you fit anything else back there!
I can't believe customs didn't even ask a single question.
Another great video, thanks as always.
😆 🤣 Thanks. That's funny... but practical and useful!
This video randomly popped up in my RUclips feed, but what’s really weird is I met y’all’s rig earlier today leaving Cairo IL coming across the bridge into Kentucky. My wife and I were both admiring how nice your set up is. It’s crazy to see it a few hours later on RUclips lol
That is very weird... and such a small world! Wow! Hope you enjoyed it.
Just found your channel, watched a couple videos and subscribed. We live in Mexico. -Marc
Hey Marc- Thanks for finding us and hitting that button! We want to travel into Baja next winter and really spend some time south of the border. Not in our Big Rig 🤣 but in our Class C we took to Alaska last summer. Any pointers would be appreciated!
@@bigtruckbigtravels We haven't spent much time there other then San Carlos which had a 60's beat nick vibe to it. We live in San Luis Potosi in the central highlands of Mexico. We also put out videos of our experience in Mexico. -Marc
Your intro about 'Why, AZ' made me think of Abbot and Costello - 'Whose on First' routine :) Another great video :) P.S. I typed the comment and then David mentioned 'Whose on First' :)
Oh yeah! That's the reference so excited you got it! 😆 Fun stuff. Thank you
Love the Smart car all loaded up💪
You all are hauling A$$. 😂
😆 🤣 oh yeah! We're just glad it didn't poop out on the way down!
How fun! About 30 years ago, my husband, our three oldest children, my mother and I along with a few cousins went down to Rocky Point and camped in tents at a campground with big walls around it. I can't remember the name of the campground. But it seems it was on the south side of the town, and it was right on the beach. It was so fun! That low tide is amazing. We had gone to Disneyland with the children, but they liked the beach so much more. The town looks a lot bigger now. I did get trapped by a hidden stop sign. There was a big delivery truck right in front of it so I couldn't see it. Immediately a police man walked over and stopped me. I couldn't speak Spanish but two of my cousins were with me, one who could speak a little Spanish. She got me out of the situation.
What great memories... glad it worked out... but it does make for a good story later on. Thanks 😄
You two sure know how to live life. Really enjoy watching your adventures. Still trying to talk the hubs into hitting the road.
It's fun... but can be frustrating as stuff happens and you have to repair it. But it's still fun to see this country. Good luck and thanks for watching the channel.
@@bigtruckbigtravels just can't seem to find an rv big enough for 3 dogs, 1 cat, 4 chickens, and 2 horses 🙄🙃😂
