"Stemming corruption requires strong oversight by parliaments, a well-performing judiciary, independent and properly resourced audit and anti-corruption agencies, vigorous law enforcement, transparency in public budgets, revenue and aid flows, as well as space for independent media and a vibrant civil society," said Huguette Labelle, chairwoman of Transparency International.
I'm in 2024 and this video STILL RINGS TRUE ! "I can end the deficit in 5 minutes. Pass a law that says any time there's a deficit over 3% of GDP, all sitting members of congress are ineligible for re-election." -Warren Buffett
You're right that our government is very corrupt. That's because big corporations buy laws and lax oversight that give them what they want at the expense of the citizenry. But saying that the way to get rid of corruption is to shrink the government is exactly like saying that the way to get rid of crime is to shrink the police department. As Teddy Roosevelt said, if government is not more powerful than the corporations, the latter will run the country. And they do!
House resolution 875 is the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009. It endangers small family farms and small organic farms that sell their food at local farmers' markets; and even tries to control food from your own garden by expanding the amount of paper work required to follow the buying, selling and consumption of any and all food. There is another bill just as dangerous, H.R. 1332. Stay informed.
Fun tip: Police (and all gov't officials) are required to take an oath of office upholding the Constitution. . Violating that oath negates their office. Any judge, police officer, senator, president, mayor, member of the military, etc. that violates the Constitution immediately ceases to hold that office, and in most states is a felon. The U.S. Curently has maybe five or six legal Senate/House members, a few thousand police, and has not had a president in nearly a century.
Yes indeed, that's when we (and by "we", i mean an elite group of private bankers) founded the federal reserve in 1913, and only 6 months later we fought "The War to End All Wars" (WWI), as it was known at the time. We've been at war ever since.
If this is what the real populace believes, we have a real problem! Hard work deserves no reward?! The problem is that the government hands money out for those "leaning on the shovel".
I checked, there is 7 economic free countries in the world ranking Hong Kong as nr 1. It is a part of China. The rest Singapore, Australia, New Zeland,Ireland,Switzerland Canada are all big goverment countries. God for its population and very low corruption. The second group 8-30 mostlly free countries were USA and Sweden placed was a mixed of small and big goverment countries countries. The worst group 100-179 was also a mix big and small no correlation. Thanks for address interesting
Also, it put more people actions to fall into breaking laws. At times breaking senseless laws makes certain people more weathy. Etc lawyers, courts, etc..
If everyone paid the same tax rate they couldn't sell you on the idea that you're going to get something for nothing. It would work it would eliminate the sales pitch. Not only that if everyone was paying for everything they wouldn't allow programs like Bridges to nowhere.. or teaching people how to dance in Antarctica.
Look up CAFR (Comprehensive annual financial Report) for all government entities. Total revenue was 14 trillion. Gov. takes taxes, investment income, and enterprise income. We have NO deficit. In short gov takes in 3 times what they say is their "budget" and use deficits to increase taxes. We could have NO taxes at all and all gov services could be covered. Wake up
I would definitely go for a for a simple flat tax over the current progressive tax system - good 1st step in streamlining things and reducing the regulatory burden around the tax code - even Russia has gone to a 13% flat tax - much lower than what Steve Forbes proposed
Check their economic freedoms ( heritage dot) org/index/ranking.aspx ) If you'll notice, they're all either at the top, or near the top. The lowest being Sweden and Finland. Now, I don't have the time to do this, but I'd be willing to bet, if you graphed the economic freedoms with the corruption index, you'd see an inverse relationship. As economic freedom decreases, corruption increases.
@revbillw7 Good idea! While we are at it, how about splitting the government, can we please slice and dice the USA to like 20 different states? Sarcasm aside, you fail to understand the crux of the problem. "Size" isn't always defined in monetary terms. Power seems to be the problem. If you have a good legal system and enforcement, a weak and small government that is under constant scrutiny of its citizens, big corporations will find it hard to bribe the government.
@revbillw7 You got to understand that big corporations have a place in the economy through its economics of scales. Just imagining chopping walmart or AOL into tiny pieces, just how is small businesses going to support their high fixed cost. Regulating "size" isn't going to work well...just start with getting the system right. :)
Take all forms of currency out of our economy. Now the only true assets are things that sustain us: food, shelter, clothing, mass transit, alternative energy. We don't need to wait around for some multi-billionaire or corporation to take a risk. How do you survive in this system. We just build efficient homes and the productive people move right in. No rent, no insurance, no car payment. No homeless or hungry. You work for your survival; just like you do now without the headache; together.
Stop voting g for people that want to spend a lot of money. They think it's their job to go there and spend as much money as they can on things that may or may not help people but they probably are trying to help people. I think you would help people at this point a lot more if you just put your hands in your pockets and just did nothing for 2 years. If you leave cheese around the house you're going to get rats trying to come in and get the cheese.. if you leave money around the house you're going to get politicians trying to grab it.. that's my analogy I'm sorry it's not very good. To get rid of the rats and the politicians you just get rid of the cheese and the money.
Be very careful on how you read those statistics. This is not propaganda. Name almost any government program and you've just named a level of incompetence with wasteful spending. What Dan Mitchell is stating is that is government protects the special interest (which includes the private sector). Meaning their is not a fair level playing field. If government just did what it's mandated we wouldn't have the plethora problems facing bureaucracy today.
Just saying... If you are going to recommend dismantling the state, take it seriously. Replacing the distribution system that is built into a price coordinated economy is difficult. It is sad to see people recommending stuff that has been tried or that doesn't even make sense. Sorry, sir... your revolutionary new system is called Mercantilism... etcetera.
No, no, no, no no. It isn't shrinking government. Its reducing the influence of those with more money aka corporations. Get it right and stop listening to and reading Grover Norquist.

What a great blast from the past! Libertarians can watch this today in 2024 and say: "SEE? WE TOLD YOU SO!"
Great video!

THANK YOU! :)
Yep!

Nice puffy idea - what about the how part? Where does the proverbial rubber meet the road with this idea?
Love the video. Very informative. I like chartz =P
I'm sure that's what Marcus Tullius Cicero had in mind when he said "The more laws, the less justice".

effective video
Excellent vid, this should be mandatory to all high school civics classes, but I know,Hell would have to freeze over before that would happen...

...and the regulations are generally written by special interests and lobbyists for their own benefit anyway.
BALLOON!!! Balloon go bye bye...

@crossxlui
Thank you for explaining that. Because if I had to do it, it'd have been a lot meaner. Hahaha.

Isn't Leopold Kohr vision even better?
Looters and moochers. Where have I heard those terms before...? haha.

King Jesus is all we need....get rid of the rest, we won't have any peace or money as long as it's the way it is. So true.
Fixing government is simple, prohibit it from initiating force. I suggest a 28th amendment, "Government shall not initiate force."
he thought that 2009 has big spending wonder what he thinksnow
12 senators and congressmen did not like this video.

I would have given you a thumbs up but apparently after a number of thumbs down, no one else can vote. The world of youtube is a very strange place.
im pretty sure it was
No flat tax.
No income tax at all.
The federal government could go on at Constitutional levels with no income tax.
See the 10th amendment.
Biden was taking notes
I wouldn't call it healthy.
NOW I HIM FOR president
@indigo11274 You're just a lobbyist for Govt Corruption LLP aren't you?

Please see my video: "Severely Autistic Boy Lost in Big Government" It raises a lot of questions and illuminates things in a different light.
No, no, no, no no. It isn't shrinking government. Its reducing the influence of those with more money aka corporations. Get it right and stop listening to and reading Grover Norquist.
Lets start with the "Federal" Reserve.
HR1207 and then we'll move onto HR833
