- Pt. Venkatesh Kumar was one of the featured artistes at the popular FEA-curated festival Parallel Lines in Bangalore. He began his recital with a rendition of Raag Maru Bihag.
He was accompanied by Pt. Ravindra Yavagal on tabla and Vyasmurti Katti on harmonium. Tanpura support was provided by his student Ramesh Kolkunda and Jaganathan.
I feel proud to say that Pt. M. Venkatesh Kumar has no parallel in hindustani classical singing in our country today. Koti koti naman to him.

One of the greatest of this time.. After Kishori Tai's passing away, he is the undisputable number 1.. at least for me. Unfortunately, just like Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, he gained prominance late. I just shiver to imagine what would have been his music, maybe 25-30 years earlier, if the recordings were available.
For me the greatness of an artist is his Signature Mastery alongside his control of his own Gharana. Nuances of Ustad Abdul Karim Khan's musical genius is entombed in him, keeping his own creative genius intact and perfectly distinguishable. A Legend on his own right!!
I wish there were his recordings.

This is pure bliss.. The way he requests rasiya "na jaye, nehi jaye" is divine..It soothes the mind.. koti koti pranam.. I am blessed to b born in this country and hear such great artists..

Thank you for lyrics. Mein bhi ye raag ab seekh raga hoon hamare guruji se, Jo pandit ji ke peeche tanpur me baithe hai. Ve pandit ji ke follower hai aur puttaraj gawai ji ke shishya hai.
Is bandish ke Lyrics ka arth agar aap jaante hai to please batayiye. Pandit ji aise gate hai "chapal ki chahat hai gaur kaaya". Sab raag me bhi sab pandit ji bhi alag alag gate hai. So I'm confused which one is correct. Please guide me.
Pt. Venkatesh Kumar is an artist at the top of his game. Once again, a superb presentation by FEA - the sound, camera-work, the excellent editing, and most of all, curating the program, not only with having the finest vocalist on stage, but providing him with excellent accompanists in Pt Yavagal and Vyasmurti Katti (who, in my opinion is one of the finest accompanists in India today).

His is a God Given Melodious Voice.
We kannadiga's really fortunate to have such a pure gem. Feels like Maa sharda is dancing on Panditji's tongue, he is a synonym to simplicity. I haven't seen any other Gayak so encouraging the instrumentalists and such a enthusiasm on stage.

Lots of Pandits and Vidushis have sung this legendary composition. But the soft melancholy Pandit Kumar generates in contrast to some big names, even from Dharwar stands out . He has appreciated the ragarup.

The connection of his renditions to aesthetics and divinity is astounding. It's much more than just singing taans and showing acrobatics of the voice. Awesome, Wonderful etc are inadequate to describe this concert. My introduction to Hindustani at 7y (I’m 63 now) was through Rajguruji singing Marubihag, and he followed it up with Durga.
