Also, Rand can feel Moiraine channeling a lot of times. He thinks it is his imagination to feel goosebumps
8. In The Shadow Rising, the Trolloc army that was about to do the final attack on Emond's Field chants the name 'ISAM' a couple of times.
And they mention Sammael's Bees too, right?
Or was that in an attack in the waste?
@@jasoncessna That was darkfriends who were also in that fight in the Jangai Pass.
Recently gave away my WoT collection to a friend that lost everything in a house fire. Just repurchased eye of the world today. So excited. Keep up the amazing work, sir.
How nice of you!
It's possible Rand channels in the 1st chapter. It's arguable but, he may sensed the fade (is probably important) following Rand Tam through the forest.
It could be the fades presence, but the hair on Rands arm stands up. Point is Rand maybe could have been channelling from the very 1st moment we meet him.
Love the content. Thanks!
When does a channellers innate ability to detect the shadow manifest? I disagree that he channels that early, but you’re totally right and I’ve never heard anyone mention this before!
Detecting shadowspawn is just something inherent to channelers, you don't have to channel to do it. But it is a hint page one that he is a channeler.
Another thing that kills this theory is that if Rand were actively channeling the Myrdraal would've "itched" & sensed him. As stated, it is foreshadowing that he's a channeler, but nothing more.
@@twig8523 I agree. But it's possible he channels earlier. That's all I'm saying
I had that thought as well.
My favorite part of these videos, by far, is the little note on the whiteboard. The “save Trolloc history” note was outstanding!
Just finished Memory of Light today love all your content keep it up.
Yeah, I'm living that WoT life, too. 😉
Welcome to the post-WoT world. Hope you enjoyed your journey.
In the middle of Shadow Rising, big motivation for me to finish the series is so I can watch all of your and Daniel Greene’s videos.
After this I have to go back and reread Eye of the World! Thanks for pointing out all the signs I missed, especially regarding Rand and the results of using the Power
This is actually the first I've ever heard of that “Ravens” Prologue. Gonna read it now.
I love the little quips you always have on your white board. This one is the best ive seen so far.
Thanks for updating and putting those links in the description!
Didn’t know about the prologue! Omg I’m all over it; thanks man!!
The creator talks to Rand in A Memory of Light right before he goes to fight the Dark One.... great video.
Amanda Odhner it is also interesting that the Creator refers to Rand as The Chosen. In later books you learn that the Forsakens also refers to themselves as The Chosen (of the Dark One). So as the Dark One has his Chosen, so does the Creator (to do what must be done, if he wills).
What did he said to him? I don't remember.
This was super interesting, am watching all your vids now and this one was one of the best.
There’s so many things you’ve made clear that I’d missed throughout all the vids so I felt very proud having noticed Rand channeling throughout the entire first book.
Thanks Charlie! I love graphic novels and this is a great find! I really enjoyed the GOT graphics. Also: ‘soldier pitches his tent’ 😂
Interesting thought on the Creators voice, I assumed it was the beginning of his contact with Lews Theron
Love your episodes, and the theme song.
The Eye of the World is my favorite book... ever. I absolutely love it, I'm obsessed.
1:28 __ good part starts
( no disrespect Nae'Blis: I love and appreciate what you do, keep it up! )
The ‘evil fighting evil’ and the Cleansing of the Taint, I’m thinking the show will insert Padan Fain to that conflict and up the stakes.
I didnt know about the prologue for From the two rivers... I spent about an hour reading it and I LOVED IT. Thank you Nae'blis for showing me this
Great video thank you. Could you look at Aiel social and family structure or maybe do some background characters like Elias or Aram?
A new spring was also a comic book. And I had no clue about Rand being old or about that different prologue. And that's a good list. I knew a good amount of them. And there's some of mins viewings that you don't see come about until later in the series which I thought was cool foreshadowing.
Hey I saw you on Daniel greens had to check you out I like your videos so far
Thanks Sarah! I hope you enjoy! All WoT all the time haha
Thank you! I have read TEotW 20 or more times and have never connected the White Cloak incident or the one on the Spray with channeling! Now that you pointed it out it is obvious. I mean, I knew he had channeled those times but only ever saw the fever and chills as the after effects.
I spit out my water when I read the white board.
Thanks got the links. I’ve been looking for the graphic novels forever
Love your examinations enjoy your show
yours' and others that open the story so that we the reader has a better story; in my first reads I read just for the story and the adventure not caring for all the background stuff that you all find so thanks for all that you have done...
*"New **_Prologue??"_* That is news to me!!
The creator speaks to Rand just before he enters the Pit of Doom no? I suppose you could read that as Shaitan speaking, but I always read is as the Creator, speaking once at the beginning, and again for the end. I've only known the wheel of time for about 2 years(read it 5 times through though lol) but in all my time on the subreddit I've always seen other people as interpreting that voice as The Creator too. So I was suprised when you said the only time it happened was in TEotW.
In the end its totally up to interpretation, but personally I think it being The Creator in AMoL makes the most sense.
Edit: I actually just did some quick research and it is confirmed by Rand that the voice before entering the Pit is the same one he heard so long before at the Eye. So we know it was the same voice, but not that it was The Creator definitively.
Here is the excerpt I read from the Wiki:
"Despite his lack of a presence in the Pattern, he may have spoken to Rand al"Thor twice in the series. The first time is after Rand has first learned to channel after killing Aginor at the Eye of the World. In this instance, the voice remarked that it would not interfere, and that only Rand could undertake the struggle to help humankind[1]. The second occurred immediately before Rand went to confront the Dark One at the Last Battle, when Rand was doubting whether or not he had prepared carefully enough for his confrontation with the Dark One. As Rand is about to step into the Pit of Doom, the same voice (as confirmed by Rand's thoughts) spoke aloud that the time for Rand to confront the Dark One was ripe"
I've just wanted to comment that lol
@@cattheparamecius1125 wow, I posted that comment over 2 years ago. What a trip. Glad I could prevent you from having to type that up yourself lol. Good day!
I always thought it was Lews Therin just speaking to him.
@@sabrinamarquez1870 "Lews Therin" was long gone from Rand's mind by then. Lews Therin talking inside Rand's head was a manifestation of the madness caused by the taint, taking deep soul memories and making it seem as if they were coming from another man. After Rand goes to Dragon Mount, Lews Therin disappears, because his revelations allow him to finally accept what is. That's why you never hear from Lews Again after veins of Gold. It's just Rand, the Dragon, gaining access to all of his soul memories.
I can totally see why someone could see that voice as being from Lews though. I've read the series too many times at this point to remember what I thought it was my very first time.
Brandon Sanderson said on a panel at the release of AMoL that the capitalized voice from TEotW would make a comeback, so yup.
im pretty sure the creator speaks directly to rand again as he acends the slope to Shayol Ghul asking if the time is right and (quite specifically) gets a reply from the same voice that it is!
Great video even after so long. I do have one to add to this list. SPOILERS
I'm fairly sure samael is the one watching rand dance in Barelon. The only way you can tell is the huge scar across his face.
Naeblis, we're you able to do more of these, "12 things", for the other books?
Really good. Love this concept
The creator speaks to rand in the memory of light before they enter the mountain in shayol ghul. IT IS TIME, the voice says.
Pshaw, everyone knows that part is Bela reaching out to him telepathically to request more carrots.
Your right about Rands channeling I always thought it was when he and Mat broke out of the Inn.
Yay Always makes my day better when I see a new video was uploaded! And Thank you so so much for that. I knew some of that stuff already but some I definitely did not. Never thought about the fact that Ishy planned it all. Interesting.
And hey, where are those links?? I was looking forward to peeping those out.
Added it lol
@@NaeBlis Haha thanks!
I'm re reading the series again. I'm halfway through book 2. Not being funny, but when you re read it, the things you will notice...Brilliant series. I've read "Ravens". Written for kids, but still good. I never got into Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings, but this series is pure genius.
I'm also reading and am in the exact same spot!
Another good one. Genuinely had stuff I did not know. And here I was calling myself a die hard fan.
Jordan's ideas about making Rand an old character sounds very similar to the early drafts of Star Wars where 'Luke Starkiller' was an older character.
Omg yes I bought From the two Rivers and into the blight at a Walden books around 2003 when I was 15. The goal was accomplished I became a Jordan fan instantly.
Rand was holding the source when Mat was pranking and the WC's(bornhald) was trying to intimidate Rand. Things could have got crazy had the town watch not showed up...
So pumped for this new series you’re doing!!!
During an interview Robert Jordan said EoTW took longer than he expected because in his last re-write he had to remove a character from the main group that left the Two Rivers. I don't know who it was but RJ said the character remained at Emond's Field and played a part later in the story. If anybody has an early version of the book on the cover art you can see the extra person riding a horse in the queue leaving Emond's Field.
I've heard of this. I believe it was Dannil who was cut.
@@josies1604 Correct it was Dannil
As a YA librarian & a major WOT fan, I have been familiar with the the 2part EOTW. I believe they did the same thing with TGH as well. The ectra prologue is worth the read.
I have read only up to book ten Crossroads of Twilight
. Hopefully I get to finish it all before the adaptation comes. Love your videos btw. I think Ishamael wanted them to go to the eye of the world since the Horn and the Banner are there to herald the Dragon Reborn. Since the Dark One wanted to have the DR in their side for a long time now then Ishamael brought Rand to the eye so that he will become the Dragon Reborn.
Great vid Nae. I didn't know "Ravens" was a new Prologue. I read it a while back online, but it was presented as fan-fic. It's cool to know it was/is canon. I never would have found that out without your awesome videos/channel. Also, wasn't it the Creator who told Rand, "IT IS TIME", or something when he and Nynaeve and Moiraine are preparing to enter the cave at Shayol Ghul? It says he's only heard the voice once before, which I always assumed it was the same voice he heard at the Eye.
Quite a few new things to me. Especially the rerelease with a new prologue. I didn't know the series back then, but I always loved longer books, so I wouldn't have needed it.
Just finished wh, now I can finally watch this video.
Fun video!
10: This may very well just be Ishamael being completely mad at this point.
SPOILER up to AMOL
12: We hear again this voice in Amol, right before Rand steps into the cavern in Shayol Ghul
I believe rand was also holding the one power when he sees logain in Caemlyn as logain turns and looks at him since he senses rands power
Logain has a talent for seeing ta'veren...Rand was glowing.
Thanks again! I'm excited about the upcoming show!
Lol “thought it would be 3 books”
IMHO Ishamael orchestrates them going to TEOTW so that Rand could break one of the seals
And to get access to the Horn of Valere.
I love the sword form here lol.
we get to hear a trolloc speak again, sort of. they say a name "Essan" I think it was.
"Isam" you know the Slayer
Unconfirmed, I think, but I have a theory that the famed "tinker mended pots" are strengthened by the one power. It makes sense to me that Ila can channel because of her automatic affinity towards Egwene
Definitely more like this please!
So.. Evil attracts Evil, and that's how Rand ended up cleaning the dark ones Taint. I figured he'd just get in there with some baby wipes...
I think I read that prolouge. All the books were split in to two when translated into Swedish.
IS IT THE CREATOR OR THE DESTROYER WHO SPEAKS AT THE EYE? IS THEIR VOICE THE SAME, HAS THE WHEEL TURNED AND WE CALL THEM SOMETHING DIFFERENT, NO LONGER UNDERSTAND THEIR GOALS. IS THAT WHY THE CREATOR IS ABSENT?
Best thing about the sword forms, they instantly paint a mental picture...
Well done sir!
Really neat stuff!!!
Didnt know about the new prologue!
So glad it was more than 3 books
What about the blonde man with the scar at the inn in Baerlon? Sammael keeping an eye on Rand?
Doubtful. The Forsaken were still holed up in the bore at that point.
didnt know about the novels. awesome!!
Nah, the solider's just happy to see you.
Im surprised you didnt bring up the historical facts from our time that have eroded into legends... such as Lenn who flew his flaming Eagle to the moon, and his daughter Sally Rae. (John Glenn from apollo 11 and Sally Ride although not his daughter.) There are others bit i cant remember them offhand at the moment.
Moiraine tells rand about him channelling, it happens in the great hunt but everyone who's read past the first book should know this.
And the creator speaks in The Memory of Light also
Chapter 23 Edge of Time
Pg 421
"It is time. Let the task be undertaken."
Naeblis, please, where's your Seanchean culture video? We're all waiting for it!🍃
Your intro is amazing is there a place where i can listen to a full version if it exist?
Eye of the world is a great begining, not the beginning, but a begining.
"Soldier pitches his tent" Pretty sure Rand used that form when Min was on his lap. *tent not rent
Well I don't think I ever noticed Rand's channelling as they board the ship. I know I caught the flight from the Two Rivers but never associated it with his encounter with the Whitecloaks later. TIL.
Trollocs do speak later in the series, just not specifically in the human tongue.
A couple times throughout the entire series we are told trollocs, generally in large groups are speaking in their own tongue, or conversations are happening between trollocs in their own tongue. We never get straight dialogue of them speaking trolloc, likely because the people hearing them whose perspective we're sharing can't understand them. In the battle of the two rivers this is noted, because we DO get a word of what the army is chanting, Isam is said many times so they pick up that word specifically, and it's then given to us the reader.
The prophecy of the shadow Padan Fain wrote after his escape from the cells i believe was written in Trolloc as well. So it's established quite well that the Trollocs aren't ENTIRELY simple beasts, they have a language, even a written one, but compared to humans they're still pretty stupid, having fairly singular minds. Even their "smart" Trolloc wasn't very clever. Playing dead is a fairly clever ambush strategy for animals, but when he failed and tried to talk Rand down to getting closer, he did a pretty terrible job. He basically just said "No i won't hurt you, now come closer" which obviously wouldn't work. A Fade would certainly never try something so obviously stupid.
When his stupid plan failed, he immediately just charged at Rand and basically impaled himself on Tam's sword.
Some people think this scene could've been just cut out of the story entirely, and i actually agree it wouldn't hurt anything to do that.
But i see the purpose of this as showing us fairly plainly that Trollocs are very smart compared to regular animals, but they're still VERY stupid by human standards. They can communicate to each other, and are even capable of making basic plans, but they're not gonna be thinking up any strategies on their own more complex than "hit it harder". It also allows us to easily contrast the so called smartest Trolloc with, well ANY Ogier. The smartest trolloc in the entire series is still a moron, meanwhile the average Ogier is pretty much a scholar. Learning how a Trolloc thinks is pretty valuable information to determine for ourselves what kind of a threat they are in what situations, and if we need to worry about anything more complicated than a basic ambush. We can surmise Trollocs going after some humans wouldn't really be able to build a ramp on their own to reach an elevated position out of their reach, but it's completely reasonable they could build a rudimentary bridge or maybe a raft, even without a Fade directing them.
It is hotly debated whether THE VOICE is the creator. In both cases THE VOICE is used, the message is ambiguous at best. The only 'character' shown to use all caps is the Dark One.
Great video
Interesting video. It's time to re-read The Eye of the World.
Good stuff.
I thought The Eye of the World felt even more like David Eddings' The Belgariad series and Jordan continued to be influenced throughout The Wheel of Time.
Have been using Audible since 2016 and it is an amazing platform! Reading along with the audiobook makes it a great experience and sometimes helped me in following the story in a much better way. Signing up with my other email using your link, just to say thank you for all the awesome work that you do!!
That split version of Eye of the World is the version adapted into the spanish speaking edition.
Really cool. I like videos like this
Thought you were going to link stuff, besides sponsor and patreon???
They should be at the end of the description
Spoiler: Just interesting thing I noticed, The two who are meant to marry are the two in the party who "die" at the end...
I was thinking that "not here" scene was Lews Therin speaking rather than the Creator.
SPOILERS
I've only read the book once, but I caught that Rand was channeling when he helped reinvigorate Bella and when the lightning hit the wall in the Inn to help him escape the shadowspawn. I feel those are pretty obvious though. Horse don't just reinvigorate on their own and what are the odds a lighting hits a wall just when you need it?
I missed the other times Rand was channeling as mentioned in the video.
The only other fact I was already aware of was that of the graphic novels. I was so hungry for more WoT content when they releases them. I devoured each one as they came out. I am a huge fan of Seamasshektches. He did many of the comic book covers and you can see his work used as visual references found in Neablis's videos.
I've been listening to lord of the rings recently and honestly it seems like Peter Jackson took some cues from eye of the world when he was putting lotr on the silver screen, like when the hobbits escape across a ferry. Didnt realize that wasn't in the books lol
@Nae'blis I really want to know what goosing is. They always speak about someone goosing a girl or woman, but there's no explanation about what it is.
I believe it is a term for pinching someone's bottom.
I searched for a video on braiding beards an hour or so ago, and now I get a beard straightener ad in front of this video. If that isn't scary?
Lol
The part where the creator speaks clearly says that It won't take part but only the chosen one can do it, if the chosen one chooses to.
Didn’t a Trolloc speak to Perrin when he thought farin was killed during a two rivers attack
Oh, number 12 i always thought was Lews Therin Telamon.
Me too. The creator is only a theory, so we could still be right.
Just Here for the whiteboard. Always down for a good boner joke and red spoilers!!! Keep it up bro (pun intended(haha))
Can't help it. Every time I read ISAM I think Indexed Sequential Access Method. Kind spoils the moment.
How about Sammael's first appearance?
There’s something I noticed on my current read through and have thought about occasionally on previous reads regarding why Ishamael would help Rand in the eye. This is reinforced in AMOL when Rand plans to kill the dark one but realizes that he has to exist to make people who they are. It seems dumb that the creator would create an entity that could destroy the world and has infinite chances to do it. It’s almost as if the creator made the dark one to influence the dark side of human nature. He would be set up to battle the light ad infinitum in order to balance the world. However I think that the dark one is designed to always lose. It seems when everything seemed too peaceful the bore was created to balance it out. If Ishamael is the dark ones champion then he might be destined by the pattern to make sure Rand makes it to the final battle in order to repeat the cycle. This would be the ultimate cosmic joke on him due to his nihilistic nature. If he joined the dark because he believed the odds of the dark winning were too great it would annoy him to know that it was designed so that the dark one could never actually win. It’s almost like the horn of Valere only being able to help the light. Like the pattern is designed to not allow the dark one a victory
I totally agree with this. The Wheel controls everything (sans the dark one, but it does control every person he can work through while sealed) albeit in unseeable ways. And we're told that the Wheel has a will (the Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills), so the Wheel simply won't allow the Dark One to destroy it.
The Trollocs in the comic were too man like for me. I always saw them as large, like a brown bear, man shaped things. Always draped in heavy shadow so the animal features seem to warp the humanity.
