I answered it because I was the only person home. It was a very intimidating voice telling me my parents were going to go to jail because of unpaid stuff. I panicked and hung up the phone. Then I was sad, thinking that I'm the reason why my parents would go to jail for not doing anything about this. But I was a kid, I had no idea what to do. Then my parents came home. Now that phone call is engraved into my memory as one of my earliest memories and I hate that.

Upon calling the daughter, the call connected to the actual daughter who was as confused as we were. I was speechless tbh, I couldn't tell at all that this wasn't the daughter. The scammer somehow also knew what the daughter was doing that specific day which is why it was so convincing before we talked to her real daughter. Was very scary

for anyone confused as to how the stalker got the dads number, it is very possible, and easy to spoof your number and make it someone else's. People do it all the time, some scammers tend to do it as well, there's also a way that you can change the caller ID that pops up, when you call someone (no it's not the general change ur contact name method on iPhones), and if he had the ability and skill to find her address, and do all that other stuff, it's very possible he spoofed the phone number, or maybe just stole her dads phone as Charlie said.
PBX spoofing is pretty easy. I'm surprised more people don't understand that there are even websites you can go to to do this (using another number as your mask).

You've made me remember a girl from Tennessee or Minnesota can't quite remember but she was quite popular on Twitch and she used to do a weekly PO Box opening stream. On one particular stream she received a fairly large box that was full of small pieces of polystyrene shaped like Wotsits crisps but this girl failed to check the entire box for any remaining items left inside and what she left in the box was a GPS tracking device with a sinister note attached to it telling what this person was going to do to her. This maniac continued to keep tabs on her and was stalking her house until he finally decided to act and he shot and killed her. He was found, arrested and questioned by the police unto which his reason for killing her was "she was going to be my queen until I realised she had a boyfriend so she had to die", this shit is fucking terrifying! These weirdos need to be locked up or just bitch-slapped to wake the fuck up.

Man or woman, never travel the world alone. Might seem like a cool thing to do, but there are too many places in the world ... many of which seem like they'd be civilised ... where things can go dark far too easily. Even if you're a big dude who can handle themselves, you are still away from home on your own, and the weirdos can travel in packs. Also, in a lot of foreign countries, if a local gets weird with you and you handle things, you will be the one who gets in trouble because you are foreign. You can travel alone. I’ve done it several times. You just have to do your research, have common sense, and don’t EVER let your guard down. One rule of thumb I always follow is NEVER say you are traveling alone no matter who you are. You never know what kind of crazy people are out there who just want to hurt someone and saying you’re traveling alone makes you a prime target.

I bank with a very small credit union so it was already odd that when I answered the phone, the man on the other line sounded like he lived in India. Basically, if you ever get a call from your bank DO NOT ANSWER. This is atrocious. We really need better laws for this sort of thing (and the weird Scottish and British and German laws are massive steps in the WRONG direction). I will be honest w you, nothing against your way of raising your daughter. I think it's very important parents tell their kids about this sort of stuff. BUT when you actually are in that situation, ALONE with a stranger. Not everyone will have the nerves to think straight. I'm not a shy person (quite loud & direct), but in those moments... I literally freeze up and feel like a dear about to be hit by a car. My mind automatically sets to "how can I escape this situation without provoking the other person to escalate", which in most cases is politely talking your way out. I actually HAVE gotten beaten up horribly before for no reason (maybe race and wrong place). As a man, I have to be prepared for that and i dont consider myself a default brave person either. It's not a blame game we're playing and I get frightened too...I can extract myself out these situations now but I'd argue that as a man in a potentially violent situation you have an even higher ratio of needing to handle yourself and potentially getting hospitalised. if you know a phone number it's too easy to use it to call others, there used to be an app that let you call from whatever number you put in, even non legitimate numbers such as calling people from 666, you could also use the app to force 2 phones to call each other. You've made me remember a girl from Tennessee or Minnesota can't quite remember but she was quite popular on Twitch and she used to do a weekly PO Box opening stream. On one particular stream she received a fairly large box that was full of small pieces of polystyrene shaped like Wotsits crisps but this girl failed to check the entire box for any remaining items left inside and what she left in the box was a GPS tracking device with a sinister note attached to it telling what this person was going to do to her. This maniac continued to keep tabs on her and was stalking her house until he finally decided to act and he shot and killed her. He was found, arrested and questioned by the police unto which his reason for killing her was "she was going to be my queen until I realised she had a boyfriend so she had to die", this shit is fucking terrifying! These weirdos need to be locked up or just bitch-slapped to wake the fuck up.

Might seem like a cool thing to do, but there are too many places in the world ... many of which seem like they'd be civilised ... where things can go dark far too easily. Even if you're a big dude who can handle themselves, you are still away from home on your own, and the weirdos can travel in packs. Also, in a lot of foreign countries, if a local gets weird with you and you handle things, you will be the one who gets in trouble because you are foreign. Lot of places do no have self-defence laws, and a lot of places just hate foreigners, or at least think that they are problematic, so they will treat them badly in bad situations.

They started with that as well, so once they started asking for stuff no bank ever would ask for like my password and acct info they would already know, then getting confrontational and angry/threatening when I questioned their legitimacy they had already gotten my card info and acct info. I bank with a very small credit union so it was already odd that when I answered the phone, the man on the other line sounded like he lived in India. Basically, if you ever get a call from your bank DO NOT ANSWER. Hang up and call them back with the number you have to confirm they actually called you (or just see if they leave a voicemail that isn't weird).

I will be honest w you, nothing against your way of raising your daughter. I think it's very important parents tell their kids about this sort of stuff. BUT when you actually are in that situation, ALONE with a stranger. Not everyone will have the nerves to think straight. I'm not a shy person (quite loud & direct), but in those moments... I literally freeze up and feel like a dear about to be hit by a car. My mind automatically sets to "how can I escape this situation without provoking the other person to escalate", which in most cases is politely talking your way out. I actually HAVE gotten beaten up horribly before for no reason (maybe race and wrong place). As a man, I have to be prepared for that and i dont consider myself a default brave person either. It's not a blame game we're playing and I get frightened too...I can extract myself out these situations now but I'd argue that as a man in a potentially violent situation you have an even higher ratio of needing to handle yourself and potentially getting hospitalised. Part of the reason why this happens so often is because authorities hardly take these attacks seriously. Sending pizza or the firefighters to the home of someone of public interest or even just threatening it should earn you a heavy fine at least.

if you know a phone number it's too easy to use it to call others, there used to be an app that let you call from whatever number you put in, even non legitimate numbers such as calling people from 666, you could also use the app to force 2 phones to call each other. I don't think its in service anymore but wild that it existed
