Megan is missing was one of the worst movies I ever saw as a teen. Back then, my best friend and I were dating online, trying to meet people and we would always go together and do like double dates sort of thing but we deleted the apps we were using and decided we were done lmao for a long time. I deleted everybody I met online through a game or whatever. I was terrified 🤣
Horror movies don't usually bug me but Megan is Missing and Poughkeepsie Tapes were genuinely rough watches.
Megan is Missing was one of those that I wished I didn’t watch at all. Really really really dark, and extremely real. Obviously the situation is fake, but the premise and everything that happens in the movie is shit I’ve seen happen (besides the REAL dark shit).

I think it was 2014 when I first watched megan is missing and didn't sleep that day(I'm not lying), the acting was bad but at that time it didn't matter because the disturbing nature of the movie messed up my mind
I dont even consider those in the same category. The Poughkeepsie Tapes has disturbing imagery and so much revealed through the whole moving beginning to end with some amazing acting. Megan is Missing gets away with being an absolutely horrible move on all fronts, acting, cinematography, editing. im not sure how anybody gets through the first 2/3 of the movie, and im not that picky. The only reason people find it so disturbing is because the last parts of the movie where shit is actually happening and the bad acting and dialogue takes a back seat to disturbing imagery and situations. A channel called YMS did a great review of the movie thats really entertaining
I personally think sinister 1 has some of the most unnerving scenes ever with how realistic the tapes where. On first watch i felt a level of uncomfortable and scared i never have before, literally felt like it was real.

Fun fact, he didnt just trick them. He married her and just thought he was about to try and "get out" of being a murderer, but that didnt pan out due to his urges and tendencies of being a psychopath. Truly a really dark scene

Martys is one of those movies that will haunt my brain till the end of time. Hangovers are the worst because that end scene randomnly pops into my head when I'm recovering from a rough night. I don't watch gore movies but I am into psychological horror and researched this to watch. If you ever want a decent nights sleep do not watch.
I saw an execution in high school history. The substitute teacher forgot to block the screen as somebody got shot in the head on the documentary we were watching.

I stand fully on the fact that ive never watched a horror movie that scared me- because movies about killing and monsters and jump scares don’t scare me- its movies like *these* that aren’t meant to scare you but *disturb* you that get me and they FREAK me out SO bad

Oh man, Mirrors. That was the first movie I ever saw in theaters by myself, I had just turned 18 and gotten a car. Not a masterpiece, but will always have a special place in my heart.
I saw the scene with the bathtub......never seen the movie but I'm already traumatized.
Second flick is a mix of not just serial killers just very bad crimes.
I agree with Martyrs. It's my favorite "disturbing" movie.
Megan is missing is terrible until the end……the end sequence is horrific and genuinely disturbed me.
Poughkeepsies tapes and The sadness have some truly DISTURBING scenes where like Tuv said you have one of those pauses that you reflect on life

I remember irreversible more because of the r* scene but even after years I also still remember that bashed face from that extinguisher treatment lol

Irreversible is an amazing but truly disturbing movie.

i genuinely do not understand how anyone could get any kind of enjoyment watching these kind of movies.
Feeling things, you can just get joy from films if that's what you want but being able to feel fear, disgust, anger and horror in a safe setting that you control is a good way to explore those feelings.
Most horror movies are bad which results in most of them being goofy or fun to watch

requem for a dream we watched that movie in 10th grade its really unsetteling but also really good
My siblings love horror movies and it’s like a big deal in my family, we would watch all horror movies we could find and we started watching them when I was around 4.
I never really liked them I found the really really boring because since we had watched so many constantly I could easily predict everything and nothing ever scared me anymore, nothing really effected me and no jump scare ever got me and because of that I was the go to person for watching them with, my siblings were typically far more scared and tbh I didn’t understand why when we all have the same experiences.
But having me was like a safety thing, they could watch worse and more graphic movies because they would close they’re eyes and id watch and if I thought they could handle it I’d rewind and tell them they can watch and if not I explain what happened and we continue on watching.
I did fuck with them a couple times of course, I mean who wouldn’t at least once right?
But I remember one day my sibling and her friend found Megan is missing, it was new at the time and they had watched everything else they could find so they asked me to join them so I could do the thing but I REALLY didn’t wanna any horror movies, I was so bored with them and I had begun to legitimately hate them and told my sister I’d no longer be watching any horror movies and this didn’t go over well with my family but they knew i couldn’t be convinced anymore.
So they watched without me, I was around the age of 12 and they were all around that age and to this day they were genuinely traumatized by Magen is missing. My sister can’t sleep with the lights off, she freaks if she sees barrels like the ones in the movie, she’s also constantly on guard when she’s outside and she won’t go out without a person with her.
I remember them both sobbing for hours and hours after watching it and my sister always said she was glad i declined watching it because she knew I wasn’t even strong enough for it and I always rolled my eyes thinking they were so dramatic.
Until I went viral on TikTok and I decided to watch it because I thought everyone was being over dramatic about it, it is honestly one of the biggest mistakes of my entire life, nothing could have prepared me, even if you told me what happens in detail it wouldn’t prepare to to see it all.
I was shaking and I kept trying to stop but I couldn’t and I had never shaked like that before, I was trembling all over and I could barely walk and I was sobbing, i called my sister sobbing and she started crying when she realized what I was saying and she said “you should have told me, I would have stopped you”
I didn’t know what to do with myself after seeing that, I didn’t know how I’d continue in life like I didn’t just see that, like it felt like the world around me completely changed and I kept thinking about Magens face in the torture device and in the barrel, her eyes looking up and cloudy.
It’s been a couple years now and those images still pop up in my mind randomly and I did have a large social life online before but i can’t anymore, I’m a lot more cautious of people I befriend irl too now.
I’m sure some will say it’s not that bad but I beg, like legitimately beg you to never ever watch it even if you really want to become you wanna see if it’s as bad as others say like I did.
I was the person who is never fazed by this stuff but this legitimately broke me, there’s definitely a portion of people who have no issues watching it and say it’s not that bad but they aren’t the norm by any means, basically there’s like a 95% chance it will traumatize you.
Honestly have no interest in ever watching A Serbian Film. Seems like it's just pure snuff and reading the plot is enough. Heard it was also made as a criticism of Serbian cinema so it's also an attempt at pretentiousness
A lot of people hate on Megan is Missing, but i think it does exactly what it intended to do. I watched this when i was around their age and a lot of it was accurate to kids i was around. It was really heartbreaking

I actually broke down after the Ramsay-Sansa scene in GOT, and you don't even see anything there. Exposing myself to 9 minutes of Monica Belluci suffering is not something I'm gonna do.

First time I've ever heard Charlie have a bad take. Thinking Insidious is a BAD movie is insane. It was great when it came out, the devil wasn't scary at all and my only gripe for the movie, but the idea was actually original and shot well. The acting was good. All around good horror movie.
