Grew up idolizing mr.carver. Mailed him a letter about my junior high science fair project featuring his tfm 35 and silver seven. I was delighted when he wrote me back! Very humbling at my age of 13 getting a mailed letter from mr.carver and his secretary.
i had heard of bob carver when i bought my speakerlab 30's, and built them inside my third floor studio apartment in seattle early 80's thought i knew clarity of soundstage until i built amps for bob last year and built some towers for him too and heard peter fucking gun so clear and tight even thru bose pc speaks
I think it's a Washington thing the sandles and socks. Or at least I hope it is. When I travel, both in and out of the US and I wear my socks and sandles, folks in the US feel i can get away with it because I'm from Wa. The effect is totally lost of folks from other countries ;)
Line source loudspeakers are nothing new, because we have been using them for many years in professional P.A world because of low acoustic feedback qualities. I love Bob Carver and is abilites to comunicate with general publics and all is creations solve all problems in hifi systems
First, I have the utmost respect for Bob Carver. I own a Bob Carver Crimson 275 and It's fantastic! But as soon as this video started, I was laughing. WTF is up with the just barely knee high audio stands and putting $10k worth of amplifiers on the floor? I don't know when that trend started or who the imbecile was who thought it would be a good idea, but I'm not buying into it.
I've built & measured, redesigned & rebuilt some speakers over the years & i know some of the difficulties of a radically slim compact designs of low internal volume. I watch & listen to all tube-videos through an external Chord DAC playing into my main living room's stereo system through revealing Tannoy 15" M/Gold dual concentrics & when i hear any video where a guy or 2 speak & then demonstrate speakers, i can easily hear the comparative differences between different speaker's sound signature & if they sound wholesome in tone on my stereo, then it always follows that the guy's voices in those videos also sounded wholesome, i.e. natural & realistic in reproduction, as if "in the room" with me. With that in mind, on this video, i heard the natural full range human voices from the guys sound realistic, as if they were talking live in my room, as this video is well recorded but when they played these speakers, i instantly thought "oh dear, they're sadly lacking big-time in their reproduction of frequencies below circa 400 or 350 Hz & downwards, that's the "richness zone" & "the grunt area" where a kick drum should sound realistic & felt in the chest & where left-hand piano keys have a proper weight, heft & solidity in depth to their notes & where you can tell an upright from a grand piano, & wether it's an upright bass or an electro bass. All music genres inc' classical truly suck balls if these frequencies are held back for any reason. And these speakers are extremely lightweight & lacking below 350'ish Hz. i've heard & am intimately familiar with The Pink Panther Panther Theme" by Henry Mancini & it's got a prominent deep bass, richness in tone & a realistic grunt behind the baritone saxophone we 'should have heard' better but these speakers ruined it! And subwoofers can't help as they don't go up into the richness zone to 400 or 350 Hz only about 150 max on quality subs like RELs & so could never help them improve upon their tinniness, or they'd still be tiny & lightweight but with a strange disjointed sub-bass tacked on. Not for me thanks anyway, although i really wanted them to sound good because i love the look & tiny floorspace consumption factor, a pity. The laws of physics are against these for a good full-range sound, i bet he struggled big-time trying to get more from their sub-350'ish Hz zone. I suppose it could be an effect of heavy "comb filtering" going on from so many bass/mid drivers crammed so close with half at a different angle to be causing much, very much frequency cancellation but i reckon that's unlikely, Bob Carver would know about that & change things. but either way, they don't sound good, if there was a pair of circa $250 2-way (sealed or reflex box) well-reviewed bookshelf speakers there, i would have heard a far more fulsome sound from the Pink Panther theme, that even sounds fulsome through a tabletop radio but not here i'm sorry to say. I'd say, "hey, give-up up on them, they'll never sound good
Your test parameters sound irrefutable.... through a microphone, through RUclips compression, through your tannoys... then to your rock solid test parameters... Who knows more than Bob Carver, but: An instrument or a voice would be a point source, right? Line source would only emulate sound from a long way away or big high line speakers at a concert or something. There's probably some cool movie effect to be had from it somehow though. Some giant thing coming on top of you. Other than that think I'm a doubter.
I want Bob Carver to live forever.
davidkosa I second that with a resounding YES!!!!
Guys. I just wish I could afford those beautiful speakers!
Me toooo !!!! he is the real deal, no BS, no snake oil, an audio genius. I wish there was a Nobel Prize for it...
It keeps weird opinions within or it gets the hose again
So do I; what a character!
Bob Carver, you are a genius. Thank you

Why hasn't this video been viewed more?
Es asombroso!!, Que sonido!!, Solo un genio como puede hacerlo

He described the subwoofer, but we don't get to see it.

Bose PC speakers in a PC liberal state sounds about right lol.
how do i meet you guys ? i live in nw .
Oh captain my captain keep rocking that captain hat. Only in Seattle will you see people dressed with sandals and socks with a captains hat.

Top..video..! Tk.!
those speakers look kind of like the Bose L1 II line array systems
What is the name of the song and artist that starts at 4:35? So intoxicating.
Patricia Barber - Café Blue (1994) - What A Shame
@@kosmic2263 Thanks
Was there any imaging, or was all the sound everywhere?
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Has the actual potential of this kind of system, ever been tested for true strength of its maximum harness of ohm? 😳
Cool sound. Bob carver is some of the best gear in the world. I feel bad for regular people with a s#itty 1000 dollar stereo.

It's totally ridiculous. I don't get it either.
So my speakers are a microphone

You managed such a review from listening to the music being reproduced on a RUclips video!

theyre 6k for the pair, if you bothered to watch the other videos, and no, YOU probably can't hear it.
Yes

That useless Carver Magnetic amp, all it was was a Triac driven ckt, whoopie..it flopped, all gone
AVA makes better stuff for much less...Van Alstine, been in the business much longer almost 50 years.
Halographic preamp, all gone, no one cares
That's holographic, and it preceded Dolby surround.
