Traction control off, yes. I burned up a clutch fast not turning it off. Also Idropped a tooth on the front and added 2 in the rear sprocket. OMG what a difference in the slow technical stuff. I highly recommend it. Great video, man.
Totally! I actually turned TC OFF and then flipped the rear ABS sensor backwards so it is off for good! I too went 14T in the front - HUGE difference!!! That is how the bike should have come in my opinion.
Hey man, i noticed your mtc was still on when you were in deep sand. it's a really good idea to turn it off in these types of sections..that is also the reason you were pulling full throttle yet the bike didn't go anywhere. i have the same bike and it was a game changer for me to learn to turn mtc off. remember to turn it back off after each time the bike turns off because it restarts itself. good luck!
I have a 390. I love it! Takes me every where I want to go. Sometimes have trouble. 😢 just hang in there. I'm in Lancaster if you want a riding partner.
A good attitude got you as far as you did. You have a good summary at the end- I made most of the same missteps (or things I could have done better) when I started. A big Thank You for taking the time to record and share.
Certainly an honest review of the sometimes harsh reality of adventure riding, particularly solo. You must be physically fit, mentally strong, mechanically capable, willing to alter your schedule and route and humble enough to know when to say when. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
I was so bummed, I knew I could get it. It was a little bit of a rock climb, but being out there by myself, I just could not risk it. Rules of riding solo.
Man, that traction control kicking in was so painful to watch. You would have got through that sand so much easier. It must be hard to go back and watch yourself struggle after you’ve learned more about the electronics. Nice video.
Great video, I have had the same experience and have had to alter my plans. It is humbling, but it is good to recognize your limitations and act accordingly to be able to regroup and try again in the future. Thanks for sharing!
It was nice video though. Too bad your drone crashed. I heard the first a few sections of CABDR are tough. I rode starting section 5. It was really great. You should try that section definitely.
Well done Kevin. Shame about your drone. I have 2 of the 390 and love them but they do have their limitations that were you out. Riding alone in such challenging terrain is difficult. Just did a south America trip on a Vstrom and it was not fun. Great video and thanks for keeping it real.
Thank you! It was a challenge, but valuable lessons were learned and overall I had a great time looking back. I would love to do central and South America!
I plan to get the same bike and try the similar route soon. Glad to find and follow your journey. Have fun and stay safe. I also travel solo, and my motto is when you think you can’t, you can’t. 😅 Question - what tire are you running in this vid? It doesn’t look like 50:50 (or more off-road) tire.
You mentioned that this was the first ride on the 390 so it must be brand new. Looks like the 600 mile service has not been done because the red shift band is mostly on. The electronics will not give you full beans till after the 600-mile service and the dealership resets it and this also is posted to KTM for warranty I assume. My 390 was a different bike after the service, the engine much more responsive the red shift bar much less active it seems to have more low end grunt and revs higher more freely. Overall it feels much much much better! It's too late now for your ride but you need to get the 600 mile service done by a dealer!
Oh no, it has 7k on it. Everything is excellent on the bike. I just run the power band between 6k- 8k I have a bunch of other videos of me taking the bike out. Thanks for watching!
New Subscriber (with the Bell) Great content. I am in So Cal and own a 390 Adv. Sorry to hear you lost the done... I lost my Skydio 2+ earlier this year in Mojave... No Fun! I too ride a 390 Adv... if you want to get together sometime and make some content, let me know.
That’s a bigger loss than my Mavic Air 2! I wanted a skydio so bad and the company stopped selling them. If you have your passport, I‘ve been wanting to ride down to the tip of Baja and back. You can follow me on IG at kevin_loves_tacos to stay connected👍🏼
I have a 390A and mine doesn't flameout like yours. I have the fuelx on mine and I wonder if that's the difference. Also I live at 6k altitude so running lean here is less of an issue so that could be part of it. I would try a fuelx pro I think it would solve that issue and you would like the bike a lot more.
you should double the sound to make itt stereo. Just a tip! Great great video otherwise. I have the same bike and like to see other people using it as well!
Love this video Kevin! Always wanted to go on a bdr adventure. Just bought a T7. Glad you made it home safe and thanks for putting together this video. I might follow in your footsteps one day.
What settings do you put your suspension on a ride like this? Have you upgraded your suspension at all? I've blown my seals out once already riding on dirt. I have a 2021.
My suspension is not upgraded, I ride the bike (2021 also) as the novelty bike that it is. When riding (solo usually) I ride at 60% percent of my ability. These bikes can take quite a bit, but they are not designed to be ridden hard. As for my suspension settings I was carrying around 60 pounds on the rear and 15 pounds on the front. I weigh 190lbs. Rear suspension I set at 3 clicks down from the hardest / stiffest setting. Front I have both set 10 clicks down from hardest / stiffest setting. These bikes are highly capable, but they are novelty bikes. They will get the job done, but you gotta go easy on them. Otherwise, many issues will arise. I will say that the motor is the most solid component on this bike. It can take a beating! Everything else is what you would Expect from an India manufacturer. I love the bike but it has its limitations, especially when you start adding weight.
I went on a 7 day trip from the Oregon coast on the TAT to the Idaho BDR. I too had my moments. I had a few mechanical issues , phone charge cord died , luggage shifting and then the rain started 😂. I guess it’s part of the appeal of having to take the risk. I’m not discouraged and will be trying another route soon. Great video! It shows the reality of what it’s really like and not some sales promotion. A suggestion for anyone getting ready to try something like this is go on something short like an overnight trip first to get your gear sorted out before undergoing a multi day trip. Above all weight is your enemy! Those guys riding those 500 pound bikes will have issues.
Nice work on the vid!
Ive got a 390A also. I work down in Santa Maria and live up by Yosemite. Let me know if you ever want ro go for a ride!
Minimum of 25 mph in sand, standing with weight back. Love the music and adventure is what it's about. 🤙

Yeah, I was still learning the bike🤦🏻♂️ I am going to a dealership neat me to see if they can update the bike so I can keep mtc off.
Man, obstacle after obstacle and you kept on going. What a tough journey.
Your attitude is infectious, the filming was great and the music really fitting. Well done, found you via being a new 390 owner. Loved the content.

Thanks my friend! Gotta keep a positive attitude, although I will say there was some off camera frustrating moments🤣
Thanks for watching!

This is the truth! This route humbled me for sure!
Absolutely! This route humbled me for sure!
Next trip, rescue Falkor!
I was so bummed, I knew I could get it. It was a little bit of a rock climb, but being out there by myself, I just could not risk it. Rules of riding solo.
Enjoyed the video! You bring across the feeling of solo adventuring in a raw and honest way. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks my friend! I try to keep it authentic and entertaining!

Yeah, some lessons gotta be learned the hard way🤣
Looked like you were in second gear there trying to get over to the next road.
That wasn't the traction control..
Great video, I have had the same experience and have had to alter my plans. It is humbling, but it is good to recognize your limitations and act accordingly to be able to regroup and try again in the future. Thanks for sharing!
Well said!
Loved your video
That sand and heat are giving you a workout. Thinking pavement way to go on that section. Heading to Cali in September and I will avoid that.

Sick video! 390 adv rider also, in northern cali, Bay Area! Would love to go on a ride with some others hmu

Should have just rolled the bike in to the hotel room : )

You don't have the water bottle MOLLE weaved together properly.
They were just cheap carriers. Poor stitching and overall build.
@@kevinlovestacos1 👍🏼 thanks for the long form video. It really gives a good idea what the terrain is like, especially the sand.
Love this video Kevin! Always wanted to go on a bdr adventure. Just bought a T7.
Glad you made it home safe and thanks for putting together this video. I might follow in your footsteps one day.
I would get a friend or two, get a 4 wheel vehicle and go back a search for your drone.

Turn traction control off
Yeah, I am learning about this bike every time I take it out😂
Flipping the rear ABS sensor after turning TC off is the best thing ever off road. It stays off... Fantastic solution. @@kevinlovestacos1
