My saving grace was getting my life in order before raising a family. It's so much easier to focus going to school or get a skill to earn more before having children to provide for. Dave never supports that as 'babies are a blessing.' We had better focus on school and our careers before adding our children to the household.

You're correct. I think the smartest way to go is
to spread out your investments. By putting
your money into different asset classes like
bonds, real estate, and stocks from other
countries, you can lower the risk if one part of
      the market goes bad.

Wife working isn't helpful here. He needs to get his income up, and the wife's car needs to go. A $5K minivan will suffice; they don't make enough to be picky. If he can get the truck refinanced, maybe he could hang on to that, if he thinks he wants to pursue a landscaping business. This is a tough situation, for sure.

Maybe mom can find a side hustle that allows her to say home. Maybe she can bring two more kids into the fold and charge about what a day care would but other parents who need to would and rather have their kids in a home environment.

Find a point where you are starting to turn away customers then it's time to put your two weeks in or cut back at the cemetery and max out the side hustle and if you are serious get wife working either from home or split shift from you if you can get to making $50k and NO DEBTS you can do fine in Mobile,AL

I went from $176,000 in debt with zero savings or retirement to now, 2 years later, fully debt-free and over $1000,000 net worth. I know that doesn't SOUND like a lot, but I'm incredibly proud of it. Some places in the U.S. don’t require that much to live a comfortable life. I’m 28 my wife and I combined make 45k a year. We love our jobs and have a ton of flexibility. We have no credit cards, we are working towards paying off our vehicle and we have a little money in savings for emergencies. Once the vehicle is paid off that frees up about 5k a year not including the extra we are throwing at it. It can be done on lower income it just takes the ability to be intentional with your money. living in one of those areas that is not insanely overpriced is a big part of it obviously. Also knowing how to fix things yourself helps.

No doubt the economy is tough right now and even those who try are struggling. But in my 52 years on the planet there are 3 major reasons for poverty.
    #1 -- substance abuse (alcohol & drugs).
#2 -- getting in trouble with the law.
And finally, #3 -- having many kids. See humans have an unlimited amount of love to give BUT like it or not, we have a finite amount of time and money! [And that is a fact. The numbers on his truck don't work. $15,000 at 41% interest is $512.50 in interest a month. His monthly payment is less than the interest. That can't be right.
