Currently building my 1652 flat bottom for duck hunting and setting it up basically the same way you are so I’m ready to see the gun box and the floor go in so I know how to do it.
For one you can’t weld underneath the floor. Secondly the ribs of the boat are generally enough support. If you can weld that’s much better, but most people cannot.
Yes but the bigger side would be better ..... I've crabbed on many john boats in the bay..... I'm building mine for waterfowl fist, and fishing second but I'm sure it'll go crabbing eventually
Talk about perfect timing…. I am literally installing one of your rear hatches right now!
She will be nice!
Glad we could help.
Howdy from Peoria, IL.

It's coming!
The juice
So, do you not use any supports underneath down to the floor? Also, why not weld those sections together making it all one solid piece?

@TinyBoatNation oh I see.... I don't know much about aluminum boats as far as modifications... I've always been a glass guy
Can a jon boat be a good crabbing boat in a bay near the ocean, but not going into the ocean? I'm thinking about 12-14 foot long.
Yes but I would get a high sided boat like 20 inches or more to help keeps small waves from getting a lot of water in the boat.
