- My second animatic for Omori! :D This is what I imagined happened after the good end hehe. Things are still hard for Sunny as Aubrey and Hero still need some time to process the news, but Kel and Basil is there for him! :')))

aubrey will definitely need time to cope and come to terms with things, but she may understand as she herself has done something horrible on accident (pushing basil into the lake on accident, she probably understand how it feels to be scolded so harshly for an accident)
hero will need a lot of time to cope with this since its practically implied him and mari were dating (or at the least very close), and even after 4 years he hasn't fully overcome mari's death. though, it may take less time as he doesn't need to blame it on himself and with help of kel he can come to terms with it being an accident and that sunny did it with no intended malice. him and sunny both cared for mari a lot, so with that they could both recorrect that bond with help of kel and maybe aubrey

I did imagine them as taking some time to think about it. Not much, in the case of Aubrey, since she's the one who longs for the gang to become together, and she almost put herself on Sunny's shoes with Basil. Maybe she'll need some explaining.
As for Hero, man just took opportunity of going to college to think about it. He'll return and get back at it with the gang.
And this is something I truly believe because if there is something to take from this is that wherever she is, Mari just wants the gang to be happy together, and keeping like this just makes her suffer. Like hell, even if it takes Mari appearing in Aubrey's dreams telling her the exact same thing she told to Sunny.
I believe that the gang ends up together.
@@miaugato93 True for Aubrey, but I feel like after being told what really happened, that wouldn't be the first thing on your mind. I'd imagine Aubrey to follow her emotions rather than her head at first, sense she copes with anger and lashing out.

@@miaugato93 I think the gang will ultimately forgive Sunny for what he did but I don't know about Basil. It's one thing to kill someone on accident and it's another to string their corpse up and pretend like they had nothing to do with it. Sunny ultimately just went along with it since he was basically unresponsive after what he did.

The ending might be bittersweet but let's be honest, that would probably happen in the real world. Even though the gang may not come back together, atleast Sunny and Basil is ready to face their guilt and move on.
I understand your POV and i respectfully refuse it, for i love these kids too much to see them depart permanently. They just need some time.
It was an accident and they reacted out of fear. If, if, they are to hate anyone, that would be Basil, he had the god awful idea.
@@miaugato93 That's okay, I also respect your POV and I certainly agree that they just also need some time to forgive Sunny and Basil but i think it would be really hard for both Aubrey and Hero to forgive them even though Hero is mature and Aubrey pushed Basil into the lake. They were stuck for 4 years in a lie where they believed that Mari committed suicide which impacted their lives negatively. There's a possibility that they can forgive Sunny and Basil because of the memories they shared but there's a possibility that they MAY not since that mistake means everything for them and it changed them totally.
Also although Basil have the idea to cover Mari's death as a suicide, we cannot really blame him for doing that since he really cared enough for Sunny and they were kids back then. He can't just abandon his friend that is always willing to listen for him and also considering that Basil's parents weren't there for him. He is really dependent at Sunny in an unhealthy degree.
In the end, we both just want the whole gang to move on and be happy

Here's what I think: Sunny is many things to all of them. He's Mari's sister, who might have an effect on Hero and therefore a big question mark on Hero but given his forgiving nature he'd likely come to terms.
He's Aubrey's crush (and he crushes on her back) so Aubrey might not want Sunny to be away. But she is, next to Sunny and Hero, the most affected with Mari's death. She might go through a long phase of processing this new information, which might even not end well for her, but since Sunny and Kel care for their friends very much, they might try to find her before it's too late.
Honestly I feel that Aubrey is conflicted already, so even if she went away to think about it she'd come round quite quickly. She does not need anymore pain in her life.

1. What the comment up said, hero would be very mad and would take like some years to forgive if he doesn’t try to harm them (unless he contains his feeling like he usually does)
2. Aubrey would understand, but would probably be angry anyways knowing she is still young, and would forgive Sunny in like... some months or weeks

Man, this ending feels like it would be the most canon. People say "aubrey would forgive sunny because she pushed off basil in the lake" or "hero is mature enough to accept it"

I agree with this, I feel like she could understand how fast a simple mistake could end someone's life, but that wouldn't quell the flame. It would definitely take her time.
Hero... I don't think he could ever truly forgive him.
Kel would be fine almost instantly, understanding it to be a mistake and that he's already suffered.
The ending brought me to tears, i mean imo, aubrey and hero has been the most affected by maris death, they cant accept that sunny basically murdered her and framed it as suicide.

I think people sleep on how forgiving hero would be tho. He blamed himself for Mari's suicide, but finding out it was an accident may be releiving. He also hated himself for not acting more mature, even if he was the oldest. Also, he promised to be there for his friends this time (initiating the group hug). Honestly AUBEY probs gonna be the one to hate.
Also love how everyone just accepts the Kel insta forgives.
Hero bottles up his emotions so much - I definitely head cannon that this would be the last straw for him, and all the build-up would come out at once. So I like this ending, because Mari was his everything, and I've always found the idea that he'd just forgive and forget super unrealistic.
The rock that breaks the camels back really while like harming sun boy wouldn't be too in character I would expect mmmmmm colorful words to be shared

Yes and no, I really think it's a matter of timing and direction.
Sunny _did not_ choose the best moment to deliver the truth- no disservice, he chose the first he could. Not the worst, but definitely not the best.
And that's to his credit. He immediately chose honesty over any other result.
And I don't think Hero would enact any kind of revenge- nor do I think he'd simply forgive.
Hero would suffer.
I imagine he'd bottle even more, even if only for a short time, because even accepting is too painful, and too inconvenient, because Hero has too many promises and expectations to afford breaking down again.
Sunny's imagination of Hero isn't so far off from how the real man tries to be.
After his breakdown with Kel, he wasted no effort in trying to turn back into the 'perfect' person everyone remembered, even if he only succeeded at a fraction of it.
After the truth, I'm sure he'd be furious. I daresay he'd be completely inconsolable-
sick, hateful, disgusted.
But he'd eventually remember Mari could never wish those feelings on them, no matter how horrible the things they did are.
Mari loved them. Mari still loves every single one of them, no matter how painful that is.
And after visiting her, those same feelings and efforts couldn't be fresher on his mind. The truth was nothing easy- and 'forgive and forget' is definitely unrealistic.
but Hero is mature enough at this point for acceptance.
He isn't above pettiness or hate. He just chooses to be better. For him, for his friends, for Sunny and Basil- he's not just going to stop being the Hero.
He's not some kind of superhero, and he knows it, but even the truth isn't going to stop him from being his best self- even if his best self is... just not 'tagging' Sunny.
Am I the only one who thinks that Aubrey would come around rather fast? I mean sure she was bitter about the first time but it’s only because she felt like no one acknowledged her. Personally I think that Aubrey would be angry at first, having to mull it over mentally but. I think that she would eventually understand that Sunny didn’t mean it. After all, Aubrey seems to constantly be making mistakes etc and such. I think that in a strange way she could relate to Sunny.

Finally someone said it.
Even if she ended up shouting "I HATE YOU SUNNY. DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU EVER AGAIN". It would just be empty words. Said in the heat of the moment. Mari was very important to her after all. But after a while she'd realize this is stupid, Mari wouldn't want this, and hell she almost did the same to Basil. So she'd come round and give a big hug to Sunny. Apologizing to everyone for being so stupid all the time. To Basil and Sunny especially, because of how much of a jerk she'd been, and also almost killing them in the process. And then hanging out again.

Yeah i think that it would take a little bit but she would eventually forgive him, but i dont think she’ll ever mentally recover fully from hearing the truth
This feels like the most realistic ending. Basil wanted to help Sunny overcome his guilt. And Kel was the one who wanted to reach out to Sunny, and is probably one of the most forgiving characters outside of Hero and maybe Basil, so it would make sense for him to forgive Sunny.
Aubrey and Hero, I would imagine, would have a hard time forgiving Sunny, though. Hero because I think it was clear that there was always some sort of romance between Hero and Mari. Aubrey felt as though she was being betrayed when everyone dealt with Mari's death in different ways. She would feel the exact same when she finds out that Sunny was the one who killed her.
TL;DR Kel and Basil would forgive Sunny because of their forgiving natures and they care about his feelings. Aubrey and Hero wouldn't because they were close to Mari and felt betrayed.
But i do think aubrey and hero will slowly heal

i love this so much! i really feel like everyone would still get back together but of course hero and aubrey would need more time to think about stuff, i think aubrey would forgive them first since she almost got basil killed on accident at the lake and she'd understand it more. it would probably be harder for her if she found out that sunny was the one to black out the photos and not basil, because she spent a lot of those years targeting basil for that very reason.
hero is just naturally forgiving and empathetic and i hate how some people think that he'd hurt sunny and basil after the truth was revealed, hes not a hateful person and would understand it was an accident and that they covered it up out of fear. of course he'd be mad at the fact that they covered it up in the first place, but i still think he would end up forgiving them regardless.
i think hes definitely the most devastated though, he spent a long time blaming himself for maris apparent suicide only to find out that its not what happened. he'd definitely take the most time to think about everything and trying to forgive and move on.
i think kel would forgive them first not because he immediately acknowledges that it was an accident, but because he doesnt want everyone to drift apart again. he sticks by sunny and basil because he doesnt want them to feel alone again, later he does take the time to think about everything and forgives them for real.
@@casinopolis Yup, I agree with you. Hero might be extremely hurt and angry at first, but soon he'll learn to overcome and accept. He will forgive them later but it will take some time. Aubrey is the most emotionally unstable imo so she'll take time to process it but I think she'll forgive them soon too. Their friendship won't be the same, they might not even be friends anymore but they will still learn to forgive at one point.
There's also the fact that Hero, if he resumed/tried to keep up the medical knowledge, would quite likely come across something on DID.
And basically be forced to realize that Sunny and/or Basil my not have really recalled enough of the situation, let alone been mentally well enough to tell anyone otherwise.

While it feels more realistic that they didn't all accept the truth easily, I don't feel that bad about it because of the extra cutscene of Sunny and Basil. Sunny never really liked to smile, even as a baby, even when he was happy with his friends. But he finally and truly smiles to Basil because he is free of his own demons, and so is Basil. They were fighting a battle with themselves, which was the most dangerous, scary and deadly one. Others' opinions about them and what they did of course would affect them, but it wasn't what hurt them the most. With all they've been through put past them, the rest of the gang is the less of their problems (and even if they did get mad, they would eventually understand and forgive - Mari did.)
This I feel would happen as it just fits them so well... kel would forgive sunny because like he said, it wss an accident and they went through a lot to come forth, He's just that sweet of a guy... Hero and aubrey eventually but it'd take a lot of time to heal on their end. Maybe they'll never completely forgive them but move on and keep some form of vauge friendship with basil and sunny, I'd want a complete happy ending but that just can't happen
That's where I disagree.
I feel like they'd return. Like, even with such a tragedy, and especially with the wounds it created on everyone, you just can't expect them to go the "I HATE YOU DON'T TALK TO ME AGAIN" and even if aubrey said that she'd likely return in a few months, like, don't forget that she secretly longs for a life where they all hang out again, and even if Mari can no longer be there, I'm sure they'd realize, wherever she is, she is only getting hurt seeing the gang like this. She wants everyone to be happy together.

My question would be his parents(or mom. Don’t hear about his dad). What’ll happen to him after the truth came out. I feel like he’ll be dropped from them entirely and he’ll have to live on his own somewhere.
This is so beautiful. It makes me think Aubrey and Hero would kinda go MIA from the group for a while to process it but Kel would be strong and forgiving, sticking by Basil's side and Sunny's, too, as much as he can after he moves away (probably calling him, writing letters, etc).

This really feels like it would be the most likely outcome. As much as I want these characters to be happy together, I'd argue they need a lot of time to process the confession. Hero especially given that Kel openly tells you he blamed himself for a good while (remember for four years everyone is convinced Mari chose to end her own life, not that it was an accident), so yeh- I don't think it would be a quick or simple process.
I've got a friend who can't quite seem to grasp morally Grey situations, so I'll conclude with this: the game was never about getting Sunny's friends to forgive him, it was about Sunny coming to terms with himself and admitting the truth despite his guilt (or... not if you played a different route haha), so I'm really glad to see someone imagine an ending that's more bittersweet than blindly optimistic.

Personal think this is more realistic, and I loved it. Aubrey and Hero would most likely need time but the fact Kel stayed only makes sense since he was the one that showed up at Sunny's door after 4 years. I really loved the small detail 💕
The headcanon in my opinion is probably the best to me. This is just my opinion let's face it Hero liked Mari. He had a mindset for whole 4 years..thinking..he could of maybe done something see a sign that was shown he just didn't see..and that was all just a lie..Sunny..whom seemed so innocent and silent normally pushing his own sister down and killing her..and they staged it like it was herself..not Sunny's fault..her own guilts. Hero had to live with that and to hear it I'm sure he's quite pissed off..or at least disappointed greatly..he's the adult of them all but that doesn't mean he's just gonna deal with Sunny.
Aubrey I like sorta also while she is my fav I hate to break the idea of her leaving sunny. But I feel like it just fits..she's stubborn all the time really hell she became pushing back everyone except her new friends the hooligans. She broke down once she realized everyone was dealing with the problem..thing was..only Aubrey,Kel and Hero thought it was Mari who did it..not sunny they always seemed to care for him feeling horrible that she was gone..still it wasn't his fault but Aubrey is stubborn..she's not gonna just accept that. She won't and probably for a long time she won't see him as a killer..but she will see sunny as the reason Mari isn't there..lastly Kel.
Oh Boyyy Kel. He's a homie honestly he clearly didn't like hearing it..but he wasn't stubborn really or anything he saw it as an accident and is willing to push on past it like Basil and Sunny can now. He's probably the only person left besides Basil and Sunny that will stay friends from this group.

I agree with this the most, but Kel is Hero's brother so they would talk about it. Kel would say that it was an accident and they aren't bad people. Hero would say that he understands it, but because he loved Mari so much he just can't forgive them. Hero would accept that Kel forgave them but he can't do the same.
And Aubrey would start hating Kel again

i mean Aubrey literally did just pull a Mari 2.0 on basil accidently there, if it weren't for hero that came in clutch and save the day, shes prolly gonna have those *Something* too, so i expect her to also understand what Sunny was feeling at that time and just forgives him. won't ignore the fact that the first thing that came out of basil's head is the idea of hanging mari and staging her death as a suicide like damn he already had that kind of mind when he was just 12years old??
This ending makes much more sense since Aubrey and Hero are more connected to Mari.
With Sunny revealing the truth, it will take a very long time for them to adapt this kind of information that they need to take time for themselves.
The truth is hard to take in sometimes.
Some will easily overcome it, others will need some time to get used to it.
Whatever is the case, I loved the premise of this Omori animation. :)
Honestly speaking, Hero never really got rid of his baggage with Mari. Aubrey only slowly started doing that, whilst Kel already was moving on.
In this situation, it would make sense that at least Kel and basil would stay with sunny. I'm kinda unsure on how aubrey would be able to handle it, but hero would definetly distance himself again. Even if he doesnt want to hurt sunny, he is still going to blame him.

As much as I wish he does, I don't think hero will ever forgive them. He killed the love of his life, and then hero spent 4 years blaming himself for not helping her when he could thinking she had committed, when as it turns out, it was sunny who did it. 4 years mourning and blaming himself, for no reason.
Hero: "Last time, we made the mistake of leaving each other when we needed each other the most. This time, we'll stay together."
Also Hero: "Forget that, fuck you Sunny, you're a murderer, I never want to see you again, this is goodbye"

I feel really bad for Hero... I mean... We don't know their reaction after Sunny tells everything of the accident. we wouldn't know... They expect Mari's little brother are quiet and shy and sad because of her big sis died. But they never expect that. We wouldn't know tho if they forgive sunny or no. Even if there is a theory that have a really big possibility, we still don't know.
That's the whole point of the ending- It's open to your interpretation. Whether they forgive him right away or someday is up to you.

Honestly, I think it _would_ be a happy ending. They wouldn't leave each other again. I think Aubrey would understand at least a little bit, since she accidentally pushed Basil into the lake. She didn't mean to do that and Sunny didn't mean to push Mari. And Hero, ofc he'd be sad, but I doubt he'd make the 'mistake' of lashing out and withdrawing again. Now that they're all together again, I think they value their friendship even more. I think they know that Mari also wouldn't be happy if they abandoned Sunny, as he's pretty much the one closest to her. The one who's hurting the most. (Not that it's a competition of who's hurting the most, but y'know.)

yeah, aubrey and hero would most definitely not 'forgive' sunny, at least not immediately. i think they could be more sympathetic with time, but ultimately the good end is about accepting horrible truths and learning to take accountability, even when that's painful. i think that pain very much includes hero and aubrey deciding to resent sunny and even basil, whether that ends up wearing off or not.

I think that Aubrey and Hero would come along but it would take time. Aubrey would think of the lake and Hero would have to realize that Sunny was very young at the time and that Sunny's grief and guilt was and still is immeasurable.

i just finished playing Omori this past week and im glad i stumbled on this video! your artstyle is really beautiful, the way you are inspired by the game's children's drawing/children storybook aesthetic and coloring, but also have your own stylistic details--like the proportions and the way you draw the eyes strike me as a little Tim Burton-esque, and that also mirrors the horror aspect of Omori. lovely video, you did a great job!
really agree with your post-ending headcanon too. it feels very true to how these characters' would react. this is sort of a tangent, but it's pretty neat how the emotion-based combat system is supported by how the characters are written! if you look at the Emotion Chart they give you at the beginning to explain it, you can see that Aubrey=Anger, Kel=Happy, Hero=Sadness (and Omori ofc is Neutral) and this tracks with how each person tends to process things.

Kel's primary emotion is Happy, so while that doesn't mean he isn't affected by things, he's the type to push through in a healthy way. he doesn't suppress any of it so he recovers pretty quickly and would be more concerned with how Sunny and Basil are doing with carrying the weight of what happened, and would definitely be first to be emotionally there for them.
Aubrey's is Anger, and we see that with how she lashes out at everybody during the Real World segments. However, Anger is a pretty reactionary emotion, and we see that Aubrey actively takes steps to deal with her anger (she goes to Church, visits Mari's grave often to try to "find some peace"). So while Aubrey might initially react strongly, I think she's grown enough to not want to hold on the anger and would find some way to reconcile with what happened and Sunny and Basil's role in it. This will probably take some time, and involve a lot of pointed, maybe painful, confrontations to work through. Maybe some harsh words, some tears.
Hero primary reaction being Sadness is pretty complicated, because we don't actually see Hero being overtly sad in-game. His struggle with depression after Mari's death really goes against the dependable Big Brother image we have of him. Which is a key problem with depression--how someone looks on the outside doesn't always mirror how they feel on the inside. For people like Hero, not only does the sadness tend to creep up on you, it lingers for a very long time. And because he's older and feels like he has to take care of the younger kids, he's more likely to hide/gloss over his true feelings. It's also a head vs heart kind of situation. His head understands that Sunny and Basil were just kids not knowing how to react to a terrible situation, but he might still resent them for hiding the truth and making it look like a suicide causing him undue pain and grief. Worse, he seems like the type to feel like a bad person for resenting them in the first place when he KNOWS it's not fair to hold it against them, and his sadness sort of loops in on itself.
So while outwardly Hero is mature enough to try to make amends (his whole thing is that he doesn't want to repeat their mistake of pulling away when they needed to be there for each other), the deeper wounds on his heart will take much more time to fully heal, if they ever fully heal at all. Kel mentions that after Hero started to turn back to his "old self" and worked through his depression, he's still a little closed off. So he'll still be friends with Sunny and Basil and wouldn't overtly hold it against them, he might just be a little more distant. He would genuinely want to keep the group together, but it'll be easier said than done. Plus, he has through work through the sadness of Mari's death a second time, given the truth of it, and also has to untangle the complications behind thinking it was a suicide and the specific grief that comes with it essentially being unnecessary (esp since he had feelings for her). Add the fact that he'll eventually be on his own again for college on top of Sunny moving away, and the road to reconciliation is rocky indeed. The distance might be good cuz it gives him space and them to process, and not having to face Sunny/Basil all the time right away makes it less likely he'll resent them. Or the distance might just make them slowly drift apart, so while they might be outwardly friendly, they'll never be as close as they used to be. Being on his own again might also let the sadness take root. But he'd definitely not want to sink a depression like he did the first time, and hopefully tries to cope with other people's support instead of just keeping it to himself and retreating.

anyways, tl;dr: Kel would bounce back quickly and be there for Sunny and Basil almost immediately. Aubrey would be angry at first but would definitely come around, even if they have to fight/have a confrontation to reconcile. Hero is hard to say, because it's not going to be a straightforward forgive and forget sort of reaction. He's likely to "come around" outwardly by trying to be a Big Brother anchor, but internally he'll need a ton of time to process any resentment towards Sunny and/or Basil. sorry for the long-winded comment, just had to share my thoughts :)

I do agree that Kel would be the one to forgive them and be there for them, since he matured so fast and it's most likely the one that actually surpassed these's stages of grief, although he must miss her dearly as well. He would probably realize that his friend's, that are so fucked up mentally they nearly killed eachother in a suicide try, need him more than ever. And that's why Kel is precious and best boi ever

Yeah, that's kind of how I imagine it would go. Hero would probably forgive them first (of he and Aubrey), after staying away for a while, since he just wants everyone's minds to be put at ease, and is an understanding person. He still might be wary, though, and just sort of emotionally tuckered out from the whole thing, and might not particularly pursue retaining the bond with as much gusto as he would have if he was younger.
Aubrey... I don't really see her as being self-aware enough to compare her behavior (pushing Basil into the lake) with what Sunny did. She's already got a lot of stuff on her plate, with her family and all, poor kid, and was just lured back into the a sense of security for the first time in years by her old friends, only to have two of her friends confess to the murder and staged suicide of someone she probably considered to be an older sister figure.
That smack of betrayal is gonna kick her in the nuts big time- she was still super angry not even a couple days prior. Old habits die hard. She's just going to see this as justification for the walls she built. So, she'll probably need a lot of time. Hell, she might not even bother to forgive or contact, at least Sunny and Basil again. Regardless, I just hope that generally speaking, Aubrey would still be able to love and be loved after the rug being pulled out from underneath her.

I always image it be the other way around, Aubrey before Hero and all. I do agree with you that she wouldn’t be self aware enough to compare her incident with Basil, but since Hero was much closer to Mari with him being her boyfriend and all and always bottling up his emotions, I feel like this would be way too much for him to handle and would need way longer time to take this in. He did blame himself for 4 years for what happened to mari, believing that he could have saved her from her “suicide”.

I connect with Aubrey's character possibly more than any other fictional character I've ever known, and as such I don't believe she can forgive.
In time she *will* grow to understand, but I don't have reason to believe she can forgive. Even if she really wants to forgive, I don't think she can.
Yeah she'd understand since she almost killed basil, but it's so hard to forgive something like that especially the staged suicide
I love this! It's so fitting with each character and I love your art style, it's very cute! Imo, I think Basil and Sunny would stick together and Kel would stick with them, even if it took him time to forgive them, he'd definitely give them a chance. For Hero and Aubrey, it'd be a lot harder to forgive them but I think they would come around with time, maybe with Kel's help!
Something I feel is important, is while this is definitely what I think happened, I feel like hero would join back not long after, since the whole reason for his depression wasn’t just because Mari died, he also blamed himself. So if he found out that he had nothing to do with it, he would probably be able to accept it after a few months, especially if kel is still friends.

i really do like the thought that kel would still be friends with sunny. when i played Omori for the first time i couldn’t help but feel like aubrey and hero wouldn’t be able to be around sunny after his confession. but kel very much has this attitude of “what happened happened” and moving on like mari would have wanted and i think forgiving sunny would be a huge part of that

at this point basil would've woken up to a tear-faced but relieved sunny, a stressed out hero in the corner comforted by a hopeful kel and sunny finally giving basil a genuine smile after 4 years and seeing sunny's Something dissipating
while basil returning sunny's smile noticing he's finally regained some of his inner peace
after about 45 minutes of silence, sunny walked up to basil's bed and gave his hand a gentle but firm squeeze, hero had calmed down but gives both injured boys a glare of..anger? relief? disappointment?
..anyway, aubrey had returned with store-bought cookies and gave everyone 5 each, but gave both sunny and basil almost the exact same look on hero's face, the only difference is it being a tad more stressed
after eating, all five of them calmed down, the air still being as oppressing as ever, but it alleviated a little when the brothers joined the three relaxing on or nearby the bed
after what felt like forever, hero spoke up with a remorseful but justified look on his face
staring at the ground and looking on the white-tinted floor of basil's room
he simply said "Thank you, Sunny and Basil." and left the room, aubrey joining hero, but before leaving, she gave a concerned but neutral glare to the two boys
not long before both members left, sunny had fainted due to the pressure of it all and was carried back to his room
the raven-haired boy had a nightmare of an alternate universe
where he went to the roof of the hospital and took the long way down while overlooking the glorious sky of headspace.
Moments after waking up, sunny was surrounded by a sleepy but grateful kel and a more relaxed and guilt-free basil squeezing his hand tight
the three boys spent all day just relaxing in the hospital room and holding up the new promise of making new memories where we see a confused and shocked kel making a flower crown, a more expressive sunny and a humored basil who is putting in new photos into their album

And your headcanon is a pretty good guess on how the aftermath of the ending would turn out.
•Kel would be the first to forgive. As he’s Kel, a giant ray of optimism.
•Aubrey would be second. She would eventually understand what Sunny was going through when he accidentally killed Mari. But it would probably take a while, probably a week or month. As it did take her a while to understand what the rest of the friend group were going through when Mari died.
•And Hero would be last. He’ll eventually forgive Sunny, as it’s the responsible thing to do. But it would take a pretty long time for him to do so. As him and Mari were practically an item.

I really like this headcanon, although i believe that hero and aubrey would need a lot of time to actually process the information and think about it. This situation is really difficult, on one side we have Sunny who pushed Mari down the stairs accidentally, which he didn't intend to do and Basil, who gave the idea to cover it up as a suicide. These actions were motivated by emotions and adrenaline, both of them were 12 at the time so while the things they've done are horrible, honestly did they have right to know any better? They were still children when this whole incident happened so i can't imagine them confessing(at this point only sunny since this hypothetical turn of events didn't involve the fake suicide) to their parents that they killed someone, especially if the victim was their other child even if it was an accident. I honestly can't imagine the third choice that they had if it did exist. However, on the other hand we have all those people who suffered believing that the lovable girl full of life killed herself because they didn't notice anything wrong with her or any signs that she might have been suffering silently and in need of help. With this in mind they lived four years and when Kel finally succeeded at getting them back together they were met with a confession that basically stated that two of them were the very reason that they had grown apart from each other. And while objectively, if Basil were to die in the lake when Aubrey pushed him she too propably couldn't have any other choice than to cover up truth(if not from her friends who were present when it happened, then from police) she would be very much able to somehow sympathize with what Sunny had done, then she doesn't have to even though it seems reasonable and logical. She's a person with feelings and doesn't have to strictly follow facts, she has every right to react with emotions and thus not forgive Sunny for the incident. Same goes to Hero, he is mature so he should understand and take into account the very limited possibilities of what sunny and basil could do about Maris death he doesn't have to because he loved her dearly and now she's gone.
TL;DR: It's logical for the entire group to forgive Sunny and Basil for the incident, but world doesn't consist only of facts and logical and they don't have to forgive them(ever, not after they thought about it - they can hold a grudge till the day they die not taking the dramatic position of Sunny and Basil in the whole thing) because sunny took away the person they loved and basil disrespected her corpse. Yet i still want to believe that they got over it. Either way, the MV is beautiful and really well made, keep up the good work 👏👏
