Hi Jose, I changed all the chains and tensioners. Also the seal in front of the VVT unit. I dismanteled the VVT unit and checked everything and could not find any wear of faults, Its a wery sinple construction. Nothing can go wrong in there, as long as the spring loaded seal strips are OK. So I did not mount new VVT units. The car was ok for 3 weeks then started makeing this noice at startup again :-( i can say that one of the secondary tensioners are mounted upside down from the other one, this could make it drain quicker and leave the tensioner empty. Also there is a drain hole on the valve for the VVT unit witch could drain one side of the VVT unit. But I seriously doubt the VVT unit has the problem. There is a lock pin in there that works just fine and stop the noise even if it was out of oil. I have desided to mount a Accusump to prepurge the engine with oil berfor ethe startup. Will have it ready in a few weeks. If I was to do it again I would start with that. It was a real pain to dismantle everything (ac pump, servopump and generator bracket:-(
Problem with the VVT Locking Pin. Have the Same Problem by the RR Vogue 4.4 AJV8 Engine. Also With a used part and New chain kit. Only two New VVT Gears solve it (per gear around 500€)
The VVT wasn't "lose" because something was bad. They are lose because they self-adjust. They also need to be turned back to reset them when changing a chain. You make a video showing how to "fix" something Not broke?
HELLO, MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE. THE VIDEO OF VVT RATTLE, AS IT WAS REPAIRED AT THE END OF THE FAULT. WAS THE VVT? WHAT ARE THE CHANGES? I WRITE FROM SPAIN THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Bmw m62tub44 has very similar built engine if talking about chain . It also has two short chain that connects two cams together and also tensioner between cams. And guess what... m62tub44 can make exactly same sound when start at cild engine . Rattle sound for 2 seconds and after 2 seconds it's gone. Ofc bmw engine has vanos worst thing ever . First generation of bmw's vanos is something horrible if need to be rebuild. Anyway the way they build this engine with two short chains and two longer chains and 4 tensioners this all cause this rattle sounds and in most cases it's cam chain tensioner or just like you mentioned lock pin with spring inside vvt
