Heartbreaking for me to see how everything is a mental disorder. The pills are not working. And nobody sees whats going on when you see snakes and hear voices.

That comment Sabrina made about her second adoptive parents taking the time to find out who she was is brilliant. Thats parenting.
I think the first one gave up on her right away. They didn’t wanted the work of a troubled child. And the girl only wanted to be loved. The worse think they did was to take her with a small child, she needed attention, I am so glad she got, thank you God.

Isn't it awful, I'm so glad this story was made public so people will know how they manipulated that little girl and tried to ruin her really in favor of their son! The lady in charge of that adoption clearly knew the girl was fine. No wonder she took her home, she deserves so much credit for seeing through the parents and finding her a forever home.

These parents are absolutely horrible. This interviewer has way more compassion and a much bigger heart. Bless this man’s heart. I’m glad that the little girl ended up doing well. It’s a horrible thing to go threw what she went threw.
They must have been paid money to show their sorry faces on this documentary.
That's why they weren't meant to be parents in the first place. I don't say that for all people but I'm saying that in their case

Its rare to actually see a journalist have more sympathy than Sabrina's past adoptive parents. I'm so glad to see Sabrina is doing well and has a wonderful family.
She was labeled a sociopath and turned out to be a much better person than her adoptive parents. This just showed me that depression is a very misunderstood disorder.
It also shows how powerful parents are and how they can manipulate others in power. I wasn’t adopted but my parents loved telling people how allegedly “crazy” I was.

Exactly!! Being a parent is not a fantasy life. It's as real as it gets. The hardest job in the world and the Greatest gift off all. You fight for them, you never give up or stop fighting for your children never!!! The so called parents are the delusional ones.
I had the exact same thought as you when I heard this comment! Also, the adopted “Mother” seemed to emphasize Sabrina’s outside beauty ( blonde hair, blue eyes) as the reason for choosing her. Those two are probably the most heartless self absorbed people I’ve ever heard of. 😡
I guess she put herself under insane pressure to have a child. People's comments and maybe even her own family made her believe she needed something and I bet she chose older children so that she doesn't need to deal with newborn -infant ages. Completely delusional woman.

The fact that the journalist was so inspired to adopt a child in need is so incredibly heartwarming. And the fact that he spent so long trying to find Sabrina again. What a wonderful man
Those people who adopted her should be forever ashamed of themselves. What horrible monsters could abandon a young girl in another country? Her tears and deep sadness were not the reactions of a sociopath. She was in such pain. I'm so glad she was able to make it back to a happy life.

And she clearly had a hard time adjusting and feeling connected to the family, as they did with her. She is not the type of person to blame people, however rightly so, for their shortcomings. That's why.

When she was holding the boy saying “are u scared she will hurt you? I will never let her hurt you…mommy’s right here…” and she was RIGHT THERE. It was just AWFUL.
Exactly what I thought and it looked rehearsed to plant in that childs mind. 😢 But God sure has Blessed her with a loving family so to me she was lucky to get away from them.

The first red flag is renaming a nine year old child. A name is part of a person’s identity, you don’t just throw it away at that age. The adoptive parents seemed to have an idea of what they wanted their child to be like, and when she didn’t exactly live up to it, they threw her away.
Bingo. They wanted an image in their heads, but a real child. And when you adopt internationally, especially an older child, you can't erase their culture, name, language, etc. They didn't respect this child.

As someone who was adopted and has mental health issues my parents got me every support they could. Visited me every day and advocated better for me than I could. Those parents should be charged with neglect and abandonment.

The poor little girl was demonically oppressed. She needed deliverance.
I’m only halfway through, but I’m absolutely shocked by this story! My husband and I adopted two older children at the same time, much like this couple. They were 8 & 9. We were also lied to by the orphanage about their history, health, and special needs. We were told they were healthy, well-adjusted siblings, but later found out not related at all. One of our children turned out to have a significant intellectual disability and my other child had deep trauma that caused behavioral struggles through the years. Even with all of that, we NEVER regretted our decision! Our adoption didn’t go the way we had pictured in our minds, but nothing in life is guaranteed. You could give birth to your child and still have problems you didn’t foresee. It was a challenging time, but more than ten years later, I wouldn’t have changed a thing. That’s what you sign on for with international, older child adoption. Our children are grown now and are the light of our lives. They’re our only kids and all we ever wanted. They have their struggles, but don’t we all? This young girl didn’t deserve that. She reminds me of my youngest. Even at the worst of times, I couldn’t imagine abandoning my child that way.

The fact that it seems the reporter cared and worried about her more then the family is really heartbreaking

She was clearly unstable at that time and scared the sh*i out of her adoptive parents.
To be honest, I could see her being able to be looked after as an only child home or a home with just older siblings but she was a threat to her little brother and I think the criticism towards the parents would be far worse if they kept this clearly unstable child and she ended up killing her adoptive brother. I don’t blame the parents it’s a tough position. Still I too hope she’s doing better.

I got goosebumps from Troy’s son and his story. So glad they found each other.
The biological mother actually chose Troy to become his new father. The mother wanted her son to leave an environment where his life was in danger, and he was living on the streets. It was not done through an orphanage that was desperate to get rid of a child.
Coming from East Africa, I know what hell she went through as an unmarried Muslim woman with a mixed race child. Her society must have treated her badly and her family ostracized her if she even had one. So sad she knew she had to give him up so he wouldn’t go through that.
@@eviekibet The story of her practicing signing her name so she would be able to sign the papers separating her from her son forever made me cry. She was a truly brave, selfless and loving woman who sacrificed everything to see her child safe and happy, a child that she clearly loved very much. She could have abandoned him as he was born and gone on living a more troublefree life, but she didn't. Her love and efforts, and Troy's love and efforts resulted in that beautiful, charming young man.
This is my favorite 48 Hours episode. Period. I am sobbing. Thank you so much for doing this update. Sabrina is an amazing woman...despite her difficult childhood, she turned out to be a wonderfully amazing person. And then there's Troy Roberts. His son looks like a fine young man. I just can't stop crying.

Why is no one talking about the fact that they installed cameras in HER BATHROOM?!! Why would they do that to a child?! She was already stuck in her room because of the alarm put on her door. They recorded every single moment of her life and yet they had not a single video of her actually being "violent and dangerous"? How is that possible?

The thing that really gets me is that the adoptive parents couldn't tell Sabrina in person that they weren't coming back. They kept calling her sweetie and giving her false reassurances. They literally dumped her and ran. Have some integrity and own your decision no matter how tough it is for everyone involved. Sabrina deserved that much.

When the interviewer had more emotion then those “parents” 😢I literally cried my eyes out, I’m sooooo happy this little grew into such a strong wonderful woman, as soon as I heard the name change I knew where this was headed, thank you 48 hours for sharing this story ❤

The sadness in Sabrina’s eyes on the way to Russia was so painful. I am so HAPPY for Sabrina. She is beautiful and has a beautiful family. May Sabrina and her family always be healthy and happy.

Kudos to the adoption coordinator for taking her home herself and finding her good parents. It was also very nice to see how the impact made on the reporter helped him become a parent.

This makes me emotional. Growing up I always waited for my adopted parents to abandoned me. But thankfully they never did. And they still keep putting up with me despite everything that I put them through.

I felt something was weird about the parents from jump. They didn't bond with her, so they abandoned her. Fabricated a story to get rid of her, put her on powerful meds, stuck a camera in her face too often, and lied to her, sending her to Russia under false pretense. It's deeply, deeply saddening.

Isn’t it so disturbing? And then the parents frame it like this is all the young girl’s fault! You can quite literally see how the medications were affecting her skin and mood in the footage they commissioned to have shot of her!
If this had happened in 2017 or even 2007 rather than 1997, these idiots would’ve been publicly skewered. No wonder they didn’t want to give their last names.
@@wolfmouth you're very observant. Psychiatry has ways to go. All these drs who just took the parents' account and prescribed heavy meds to a 9 year old who had a history of trauma. No mention of therapy anywhere. Only one dr saw through the nonsense out of many. It's very unfortunate that this is very common among kids in the foster care system. They are at much higher risk of being polydrugged by psychiatrists because trauma causes behavioral issues, and no one wants to invest in therapy, patience and love to help them heal.

It was pretty telling when the mom kept saying "I'm not gonna let her hurt MY SON" even though she adopted them both the same day. She, herself, never attached to Caralee.

The journalist is more of a father to her than her adopted father was. The fact that he thought about her all these years, then successfully tracked her down is proof of that. Both of them found the families they deserved.

I'm so glad she's doing well.. That adoptive mom was vile.. She didn't want her anymore so she created a scenario and forced that kid to almost believe it and admit to it and even heavily medicated her for it.. So heart warming to see Sabrina happy and with a family of her own 🤍💕
The way she keeps referring to Joshua as "her son" but refuses to call Sabrina her daughter like she didn't adopt her in the exact same way makes the favoritism obvious. Adoption shouldn't be like trying on clothes in a store-- you can't expect to just "return" whatever doesn't fit. There's no way these parents would put their biological child up for adoption if they were experiencing mental health problems.
So?? You cannot force love, so they did the right thing for them & the child.
I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I reacted to the "we saw pictures of the children, and they were beautiful". Right there, it already sounded to me that she just wanted perfect beautiful kids.
Unfortunately I have witnessed a woman put a child back up for adoption cause he was a danger to her and the others

Seeing Crystal telling Joshua "I won't let her hurt you" right in front of little Sabrina made me so sad. That kind of thing probably happened all the time and reinforced the idea that she was not good enough for them. Classic scapegoat situation.
Sabrina is so strong and has built a life filled with love. What an awesome person.
I caught that too. Crystal was brainwashing the boy into believing she would hurt him and his new mommy was the hero. Recognize the scenarios right off.
Absolutely awful. Imagine telling a little girl that she is broken and dangerous and will never be fixed. Telling her that her brother has to go away because she is so dangerous he can't even be round her. Then abandoning her in Russia. Absolutely despicable way to treat any child, even 'problematic' ones

Shes not their daughter. They're terrible people who should be ashamed. They wanted to adopt perfect kids to match their perfect lives, not save a child. If that boy gets sick, are they going to "return" him also. Hopefully the little boy can get away from them with damage.
I was adopted and I can’t imagine being sent back. One of my favorite childhood memories was snuggling with my mom on the weekend and her telling me the story of how they adopted me. That’s the only story I wanted to hear. ❤
No one talking about the misdiagnosis and obvious pumping of unnecessary meds by the American psychiatrists/ psychologists. They were the ones supposed to save her from her situation, they also failed and got paid. Imagine how many like her there out there. This is a very educative piece
Always avoid psychiatrists like the plague.
They are just practicing medicine. I have experienced so much abuse in the mental health system. They traumatized me more than my childhood...which was awful. It has taken me a few years, but I got off of all the medication that they had me on and am living a happy and full life. I don't believe that I ever should have been diagnosed or with illnesses or put on medication. Many of these people are narcissists themselves. Lord have mercy. It is so sad that they did this to this precious child. ☦️😡💔😢
Yes, therapists can either be helpful or very dangerous. I would not go to one unless I was certain they were the type to say what was true vs. what you want to hear.
America pushes drugs on tv and doctors will prescribed you almost anything you ask for and then wonder why there’s such a way prescription drug problem in this country along with illegal drugs, talking about some war on drugs when they push people to ask for drugs all the damn time on tv, ridiculous

I find it so bizarre that the adoptive mother stated some of the things she said to the little brother right in front of their daughter. She's standing right there and the mother is saying to the brother, "I won't let her hurt you." That's crazy to me.

Exactly! I came to the comments to point that out. The way the show is recorded is kind of hard to know if she was actually also directly in front of Sabrina while TALKING ABOUT HER! That alone would make ANY kid confused and devasted. Not to mention the previous trauma she has to endure. I’m so happy she’s happy and has a family! 😩😭

the fact sabrina was able to find it in her heart to hold no resentment to her first adoptive parents really shows what a genuinely good person she is
I think the first parents were wrong in many ways, but if I had made all of the same mistakes, they did up until the point of her threatening the other child. I’m not sure I would’ve made a completely different decision. I wouldn’t have returned her to Russia, but I certainly wouldn’t have her around my other child. I would have tried to find an institution she would not be able to come back to my house, until she was very obviously not a threat to the other child or herself. If you allow a child to be abused, that is abuse, regardless of who they’re being abused by.
She's a psychopath, ofc she says that on camera and we will never know her thoughts.
She reframed the event where she was trying to push her little brother off the railing to "i was carrying him down the steps" loosely quoted here.
And when questioned about the dog she has her own story about that as well, i trust more an adult woman (her adoptive mother) than a 20+ year later retelling of a story by the person who did the act as a child.

Her second adoptive family would've had something to say about her violent behaviors if she was really violent. They also say that they monitored her all the time with security cameras, yet somehow never caught her violent actions on camera? Her husband would've also left a long time ago if she was really violent and her kids placed somewhere else. In fact, the majority of people in her life say she is non violent. Although we cannot tell from this video, it's pretty likely she isn't a psychopath. And even if she was, psychopaths can go on to have happy families and care for others in their own way. In fact, most are not even violent. You're lack of knowledge on this subject just says it all.

The incredible entitlement and self-delusion of exposing the privacy of a child in such a cruel manner on national tv and using her to become "victims" and then leaving her in Russia tells me everything I need to know about their character. I can only imagine how the other adopted child felt after they had their own biological children. The only thing that saved him was that the other children they had were girls so he was a novelty. Glad Sabrina was able to get out of such a terrible situation with horrendous people.
The image of her sitting on the couch alone and doing a self-soothing hug around her own body while she cries is incredibly heartbreaking. I have an adopted daughter with diagnosed attachment disorder and while it’s been difficult at times, I would give my own life before giving up on her. We do therapy together and it is my mission in life to make sure that that little person understands in her soul that no matter what she does to push people away, we will love her and we won’t ever go away. 😢

that’s wonderful of you. children with attachment disorder can be incredibly dangerous to society if their issues are left untreated, and even then they’ll never fully be normal. it’s amazing for you to not give up on your child.
As an adoptee the first adoptive parents make me ENRAGED. “This wasn’t my dream” told me all I needed to know
I had a failed adoption, too. Once they found out I wasn't a perfect princess and had already been through more than anyone ever should, I was put back into foster care. It hurts so bad bc I wasn't even a "bad" kid. I did as I was told most of the time, was very studious, cared for the family pets, and helped with garden. No words to describe the disgust towards her first adopted parents. Sabrina thrived in spite of them rather than because of them. So proud of Sabrina, so revolted by Crystal and Jessie. Awful people.
It's pretty evident that Sabrina was not their poster daughter, so they dumped her back in Russia. Crystal wanted a daughter who she could dress up and train to be the perfect robot. Troy and Jonah's story was so amazing! I love it when Troy said, "Ten months after meeting my son . . ." I don't know that Crystal or Jesse ever called Sabrina their daughter. Great journalism, great ending!!! 🎉
anyone notice the fact they said “the parents thought she was a beautiful child with blond hair and blue eyes” they just wanted a doll that never does anything wrong. they didn’t realize they were getting an actual child that screams and fusses sometimes.

I noticed, too, and I wasn't sure about that impression. Overall it looks like "you make problems, you'll be held accountable for them" - just that said problems, or more, the handling of those seems a bit over the top. Right away to medication, alarm system, then leaving the kiddo in Russia. Like some dog that became aggressive.
Literally, that was the first thing I noticed. That poor child. Not only that, but they would talk about her in front of her almost shaming her.
Also a red flag changing their names, like they’re strays from the pound. They weren’t ready to adopt, let alone an older child.
The fact that mom was asking if he's scared of his sister and that she won't let his sister hurt him right Infront of the little girl, almost like she was planting the seed, coaching him into fear and false memories so easy to do to a 3-5 year old 😕
I thought the same thing! Telling him "mommy won't let her hurt you" right infront of that sad little girl and in front of the camera was sick and manipulative. They knew she wouldn't say anything!

What an amazing soul Troy has . He shows such empathy over people and now he is the farther of a beautiful young man who actually dose look like him. I am so happy that both children finally found true love and continue to thrive in life.
Turns out Nina was the one who cared and told the truth!! She was painted as an evil adoption home worker but she stuck by Sabrina and cared for her and even believed in her when everyone else wrote her off as an evil psychopath. I’m glad this had a happy ending.

This girl needed to heal. I was in foster care. It’s difficult and terrifying. It’s very lonely and your best interest isn’t in hand. This breaks my heart. I think they just didn’t hand the patients for her.

Thank you Nina Kastina for going to Russia to find Sabrina and bring her back to the USA and then start the new adoption process for her. Nina is a woman with a big heart, and she knew the first adoptive parents lied. ❤
She is the hidden hero of this story... sometimes all we need in life is the right person to give us a little help at the right time to put us on the right path...
Though it was in the interest of the owner's business for her to fly in to rescue the abandoned little girl. Revealing the full medical and social details etc of a child only at the emotional moment adopters arrive to sign the papers and take the adoptee into their care, or not giving them important information unless they ask for it as they sign the papers, is at best unwise and at worst deceptive. So if she had not acted to "rescue" the sad little abandoned girl, the documentary might well have ruined her business. I'd have liked to hear from the second set of adoptive parents, to hear about their experience and their opinions on their daughter's mental health.
@@jenniferh6813 knowing what is children psychiatric hospital No6 in Moscow, I would say that Lyuba/Carolee/Sabrina would not went out as an ordinary teenager. She would be definately sent in a provincial state boarding school for children with menthal illness and after age of 18 end up in a boarding house for menthal disabled - this path is common in Russia. Nobody cares about these kids/ adults there, they spent most of their time under heavy neuroleptic medications in a terrible environment, without a basic adequate therapy. Thanks to the lady from agency she had escaped. Nina literally save her life.
@@jenniferh6813 well, you can clearly see that she grew up totally healthy, which means she actually didn’t have any mental problems at any point. If she had any mental illness, she wouldn’t somehow grow into a healthy adult as she eventually did. So, the agency actually didn’t lie, only those disturbing “parents” did.

A child with severe attachment disorder would not cling to her caregiver like Coralee was clinging to her adoptive mother while crying, especially if she was incapable of feeling love. The second psychiatrist's report was more accurate. They did not want her anymore because they had Joshua as their "perfect child". I'm just grateful that a very good family found Sabrina and raised her with love and care. My heart goes out to her.

That wasn't the "second report". It was clearly stated that it was ONE of several. And every single other report said that she had mental issues. How were the parents supposed to know better than certified psychiatrists??
It was a good thing that this couple sent Sabrina back. They didn't deserve her.

Yes! 😢 Also the moment when the adoptive "mom" continued to say that Sabrina didn't have the capacity to bond, didn't have affection, will just move on etc while we saw her crying and hugging her adoptive mom, being so sad about leaving and being abandoned while in reality the adoptive parents remained cold, didn't have affection, didn't have the ability to bond and immediately moved on.
I was thinking the same thing! The "parents" were acting as though they were returning a pair of shoes, with the lack of emotion they had as they were leaving her in Russia! It was disgusting to watch. Thank God Sabrina got away from them and found true, loving parents.
@@sunnymoon3771 The word "gaslighting" is overused nowadays, but that mom really was gaslighting everyone following this story when she explains away all the affection as a "facade" by saying things like "it took me a year and a half to break through the facade"
From the very beginning, Sabrina's first adoptive parents just felt off. The way they just wanted a "perfect child", the way they demonised a traumatised child they dragged to another country. No wonder she struggled mentally, she was so far away from everything she knew, and old enough to understand that. That poor girl was doomed as soon as they saw a child young enough to mold and manipulate to what they wanted.

@oskit_ I absolutely agree. Sabrina was a beautiful little girl, already her own person and I believe her first adoptive parents were trying to mood her into something else. When she didn’t fit that mold, they threw her away. Absolutely heartbreaking. Poor child.
It’s just a blessing that she was rescued by the adoption organisation and found parents who loved her for who she was, not what they wanted her to be. I’m so pleased she’s so happy. Bless her heart.

This is to parents trying to adopt ( especially those who are adopting older kids, I think you should adopt just one child) that way you give them your undivided love and attention.
As an older kid, they already know they were abandoned by their mother or father and feel that too.

Yep, not to mention how tall that deck is if you look back at it. She may have done something, but I feel the kids were heavily manipulated by these "parents" before the camera crew got there to speak with them. The same way the little boy was enjoying playing with the sister and they quickly went "Oh but he was just scared of her moments ago!". She had issues and wasn't perfect so they got rid of her.

Knew those adoptive parents had been coaching both those kids from the very start, trying to get their money back from the adoption agency as they return their rejected daughter to Russia, calling themselves “good Christians” all the while. So grateful that an _actual_ good person rescued Sabrina from that hospital, took her home and let her be herself. Really great episode.
Yeah, the real hero is actually the agency's owner who took her out of this situation and literally saved her! And the fact how they have tried to throw this lady under the bus is disgusting.
Oh, yeah, the fact that they'd been filming/televising everything, even before the social media era, should have been a red flag. I almost fell for the whole story and believed that she was a sociopathic child. What a tragedy!

After watching this twice, I even thought more about her having anxiety. A child with anxiety being told they'd hurt someone would probably ruminate and want to stay away for fear of something bad happening. That makes her childhood all the more heartbreaking. She was terrified. The adoptive "parents" had no business with any children, as harsh as that sounds.

The first set of adoptive "parents" kept saying they were scared, but the truth was they brainwashed Sabrina and others into believing she was broken to get rid of her. What horrible people. Sabrina was an innocent, depressed child trying to cope with trauma and a massive change in her life.

Yeah that's mainly what I noticed :/ they're over medicating her and it's possible she has anger issues but she also seems like a traumatized child who does love and care for her brother but is just being blamed by her parents

You are right. She was understandably jealous of the little boy. The adoptive mother always referred the little boy as "my son" instead of "her brother" as though the boy was valued very much over her.

It is possible the younger child got more attention because he was younger, would have more needs, or need more help, and that made the older sister jealous. And to Jaye R- no, that was not obvious.

The documentary from 24:50 onwards is the most wholesome thing I've ever seen in my life. The reporter Troy has compassion for Sabrina and meets her after all these years, she sharing her side of story and Troy sharing his own story of adoption. I had a huge smile and tears on my face.
The fact that Sabrina showed her husband the documentary before getting serious, shows how kind, honest and genuine she is!
Most importantly, it shows how BRAVE she is.
"Mummy's not ever going to let her hurt you" while the poor girl is standing right there being spoken about like she's invisible and having to hear how alone and isolated she is. While it was cruel to send her back while telling her to 'be brave' and 'not to cry' like they weren't completely abandoning her again, giving the opportunity for another family to love her properly was probably the best thing because the obvious coaching and manipulation here from the woman is sickening to watch. I'm only 13minutes in and already want to skip over everything the woman says and find out how the girl turned out and if she got the love she deserved.
I saw through this as well there were too many issues that were happening in front of these children. I believe there is so much to learn about regarding children that are adopted that follow them throughout their lives into adulthood. She definitely defied all the odds. As an adoptee myself and many years of research it has been documented in medical history that adopted children at birth are able to experience Abandonment from their nature birth mother when this bond is broken. It lasts a lifetime.

I adopted a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder out of Pittsburgh. We had a rough time. He was even put in several care placements but he came home. He has turned into a different person . I’m so proud of him. I have always be his Mom. I love him to pieces.
