- Police now say, with the help of Taylor Casey’s family, they have recovered the 41-year-old’s cell phone in the ocean near the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat where she was staying.

Yes! Nancy Ng at a yoga retreat in Guatemala in 2023. The retreat people would not talk. Still unsolved. They believe she drowned while kayaking or swimming on Lake Atitlan but def odd circumstances.

It's utterly baffling. Do they want to find this person or not? Failing to mention that makes it impossible to investigate properly. You never omit identifying information in a missing persons case, especially basics like sex, gender, as well as orientation. It all matters in learning about the victim to retrace their steps and find witnesses, motive, etc.

That's been my thoughts. Unless the phone was found in one of those water safe, ocean safe pouches, it had to be thrown into the ocean by the assailant.
If the phone was found in a pouch, then maybe there's something to the idea that she went for a swim alone and unfortunately fell victim to a shark. I would think even if a shark, there would be some clues e.g. when people swim, they leave shoes, towels, xx belongings the beach.

If they KNOW, or ARE looking into that they have a responsibility to make the public and family aware of every dang detail and not try to preserve the "reputation" of their dang islands reputation. It's very clear THAT is going on because some knew nothing about a missing woman, some have left and instead of offering full refunds or making it clear people are safe, the offered them "credits" to come back ?! If it's impossible for a phone to ping in water, the person who claimed to have found her phone may be a person of interest.
What that means is before the phone died or was submerged, the last place it pinged was at a latitude/longtitude that is over a body of water. That could mean in a boat, raft, etc.
They can contact the phone carrier to check her phone records for numbers

Not even the family. They're withholding the fact she's trans which is a huge detail to leave out, as they're more likely to be victims of violent crime and would open different possible motives.
This wasn’t even being investigated until the news started talking about it constantly. Now the authorities there have decided to look into it. Also the yoga retreat asking the one reporter to please leave bc people were meditating shows how much they really give a damn.

We’ve had similar situations at our canoe outfitting company. Big group goes out, one person is left behind. One guy needed emergency rescue twice on one trip. They either don’t get along or not as strong a paddler.

You know those Bahama authorities are working their asses off to resolve this. Not because it's their job and the right thing to do for public safety, but because of the bad publicity and the impact it might have on tourism. Their economy revolves around tourist dollars, and they want that to keep flowing. But hey, whatever gets the job done.
I agree with you. As a citizen of the Bahamas, we rely too much on tourists dollars, putting all are eggs in one basket.
