    Often, the stringers can be located with an inexpensive stud finder. The magnet will show locations of the original screws.

    What would you do to stop the squeaking if there are no stringers in the middle of the stair treads?

    • @stairbuilding
      @stairbuilding  Год назад

      You might need to open up under the stairs and add supports. This can be done from above by removing stair steps also.

    Can 6" x 8" angle brackets be used on a staircase leading to second floor to stop squeaking/crunching noise? The stairs have no center stringer and are 3' wide. The drywall has been removed to expose the stair underside. Thanks!

    My noise is a pop/crack from the far right side of the tread. Can a screw reach a stringer all the way on each side of the tread or is the stringer on the sides covered by, what I think is called, the stringer fascia or skit?

    • @stairbuilding
      @stairbuilding  Год назад +1

      It's difficult to suggest how your stairs are built, but that's the best part of this type of repair with carpet, you can remove screws and try again.

    hi my stairs does not have stringer and i do not have access to the bottom as well. how i know there is no stringer as basement stiars are accessible and they do not have it. any advice on it

    • @stairbuilding
      @stairbuilding  Год назад

      Try to find the squeaking by stepping on the steps at different parts of the stairway and then see if you can use a screw to prevent the movement. Sometimes you will need to open up under the stairway, if you can't use screws from above.

      It will depend on the product and installation. Check with the manufacture for more information about product failure.

    Please take time, don't rush. Take the carpet up, it will go back down just fine. Don't be putting screws through your carpet, that is so damn lazy. Take the carpet up, you will see where the nails or screws are and just add where they are. Also run some along the front of the step. Use a jig $15.00 to put some screws into the back through the step if you don't have access to the back of the staircase. Put the carpet back, the gripper rods will still work and the carpet will be programmed after the years of it being there to sit back neatly. It will only take about an hour start to finish, or just drill in screws until you hit jackpot on each step. So lazy my friends but it can seam scary to take up a carpet so I do understand, believe me it is not !

    • @stairbuilding
      @stairbuilding  11 дней назад

      Thanks for sharing and it can also depend on how the carpet was installed. Glued or pieces installed in larger sections might be difficult to remove and replace.
