The small square shapes are not permanent. They are there during the drawing process. Go to Layers panel and click on another layer, they will go away.
I've used the pen tool heaps, but I haven't worked out how to save it onto a layer. So far, it's just been a guide to use the line and draw alongside it. If I try to add another curved line separate - I can't, and soon it gets erased. I have some vision impairment, and find constantly, I've pressed something inadvertently. For example, after hours of work, I find that the whole project was rotated slightly. If it was recent I can undo one step at a time, but re-rotating the picture loses a lot of clarity. With the pen tool, if I don't hit the points accurately, too many get added, and then I have to use the erase anchor point pen. The curve tool also tends to join back onto the first point.
You’re probably in path mode. After selecting the pen tool look at the options bar and select shape from the drop-down menu. If you have a path and you want to delete it you can do that under path panel which can be found under windows menu.
@@graphicsociety1, yes it is in path mode, but the path is not a permanent thing - in any layer. Another mode places colouring that fills in the curves. I'm just after how to have the path as a permanent thing - on a layer. As it is - I have to pencil in the curves on a layer - then go on to do it again for another curve in another colour etc.
how do you keep the lines? And please dont answer "shape mode"... i've seen you reply to a bunch of people with shape mode... i don't want a filled in shape.. i just want the line itself.
But how to remove the controllers after finish the lines, i mean the controlling line are still their, how do i remove them? How to kill these lines after finishing your draw, so that you can have only the curves, without line. Thank you, it really helped a lot.
You can press Escape on your keyboard to stop drawing at that point but don't forget you'll be leaving your path open. Try it and see if it give you what you're looking for.
It just doesn't work for me. How you get that tool sign, the small black triangle, no idea. I did it other way. You should explain every step and tool sign, as it's a beginner exercise.
I found it very difficult to follow you because you were speaking very fast. I tried numerous times to try and match what you were saying to what you were drawing and couldn't duplicate what you were doing.
Dude drink some water or something, that thing with your voice makes it so hard to watch. Believe me I tried but I couldn’t, sorry. Not trying to bring anyone down
Mr. M please use the direct Selection tool to modify the curves. You can click on any of the anchor points move them up and down or modified it handles to change the curb itself. I hope it helps.
Thanks. I'll do a new video on this subject and explain editing curves as well. You can use the Direct Selection tool (white color) and click on an anchor point. That will give you access to the handles which you can move around to modify the curve.
"following a wavelength path"....? wtf :D This is some pseudo-physical mumbo-jumbo. You could say the zigzag is approximating a sinusoid but to me that's overly technical. Good vid though
But how do you convert this path into a curve in the image?
Did you find out how to do it?
My pen is filling in the vector path making weird half filled circles do you know how to fix this?
Thank you for this simple explanation
Fast and important. Even if you think you don't need it now, practice!
how do you leave plain lines? i just wanted to get rid of the square anchors, this did not answer my question

@@alaindubois1505 Can you somehow use the paths created on the paths tab instead of the layer tab for this?
Thank you that was very helpful and easy to understand
How do you make the points disappear while keeping the line?
Sorry I’m not sure what you mean. Can you please explain again and if there is something in the video mention the time
@@graphicsociety1 nvm, I figured it out
This was so helpful! Thank you!
How do I make the edges of the line sharp?
Hold ALT or OPTION for Mac, using the Pen tool, and click the point.

how about, you know, drawing the line? as soon as you select another tool those "lines" are gone
Onimirare if your line is gone you should check your Pen type on the Options bar. Make sure it’s set to SHAPE and not PATH.
Good but would have been great to see a swoosh/diagonal shape being drawn. I appreciate the simplicity and brevity of this video though. :-)
How to do this in IbisPaint X?
How do you terminate a line? I want to draw a number of curved lines like cat whiskers.
Press Escape on keyboard to end drawing.
@@graphicsociety1 tthank you
Thanks YOU for the video! Perfect for what I needed...
Luke Simmons You are very welcome.
Thank-you for your video, helped me to understand a simple and effective way to use the pen tool.
SHOPETSY You’re very welcome.
You're welcome :)
The best
Thank you! :)
How do you convert it into a drawn line once you're done, so it's its own layer?
What do you mean by drawn line? If you don’t see a line at the end it means you have been on path option of the pen tool under the options bar.
But how to remove the controllers after finish the lines, i mean the controlling line are still their, how do i remove them? How to kill these lines after finishing your draw, so that you can have only the curves, without line.

The handles go away as soon as you deselect the shape and you can access them again if you click on the shape again using the direct selection tool.
@@graphicsociety1 Thank You.
how could we save the curve without joining the end points ? please tell

Really cool! Thanks for sharing!

i what layer this is created, i can't move it or edit it or anything
thanks it healped me
I cannot find the option

but how do i make it into a brush
simply drag it to the Brushed panel available under Window menu.
the line did not appear on any layer, how can I edit it? like resize and copy/paste
i think you can make a new layer click on the new layer you created then just use the pen tool
This drives me mad. I click and drag but it doesn't do what your are doing.
Thank you so much tysm tysm
Whats the point of this? when you save the file, nothing you drew saves
How did you delete
Delete what?
BRO YOU ARE THE BEST PERSON I WAS FUCKING LOOKING FOR THIS FOR AN HOUR AND IT WAS THIS EASY YOU ARE THE KING MANNNN
We dont see and how is the finish result
This really helps a lot!

I know this. But how do I turn those into drawings?
Cipher this is a technique by itself. Watch other videos in my channel plz. There’s more information on drawing.
@@graphicsociety1 not a useful reply. I'm wondering the same

How do you terminate a line? I have the squares on my line. Yes, I clicked on another layer, I hit escape, they are still there.
Escape is one way, also you can click back on the Pen tool on the tool bar, that certainly works.
