If you get young captive bred Tokays, and work calmly and consistently, they can become wonderful pets. It takes a lot of time and patience though. The Satanic Leaf tailed geckos are very cool looking, and tempting, but we have heard that they can be a bit more sensitive and tricky to care for.
Great choices! I want a Satanic leaf tailed and a Tokay so bad. I love Tokays spiciness but man they seem like they would be really rewarding to get to Reptiliatus's level of tame. Love his tokay family so much
I agree, but as someone who has a CB tokay, believe me it is much harder to do than appears....I have had him for almost 2 years now and he is JUST starting to eat off tongs for me, I love to watch him hunt though. Something not talked about much is just how sharp their teeth are, mine has sliced my knuckles open without biting me, just grazed me with the side of his mouth.
After having Leos for years, i had the opportunity to rescue an african fat tail and i absolutely adore the little guy. They seem to be much more docile and relaxed. My Leos have always been good about handling and hanging out, but none of them have ever really been a fan of the initial pick up and I have to do the hand-treadmill for a second. Then they like to walk around on my arms/hands. My AFT on the other hand will step up on my hand and not do much more than look around the entire time ive got him out, even if I give him a little rub on the head or back. 10/10, highly recommended
3:48 the switch to Diamond 😂 my kids all agree they want a bearded dragon thanks to Diamond. So we're in the process of saving money for the tank and set up.
For anyone watching that wants a tame tokay. Get one and put it in an area you spend a lot of time at. They'll warm up to you in no time! Had my tokay for less than a year and he's gone from biting the heck out of me to licking my hand and jumping into my lap from his tank if he wants to hang out. He's not food motivated at all but is very curious and likes to explore! Definitely one of my friendliest reptiles in my collection! Couldn't recommend them more!
Thank you for putting tokays on the list I got my first one at age 14 but they are so fun and if you work with them you can handle them now I’m addictive I got 19 of them and won’t ever get a creasted gecko
gargs are great! my gecko is handleable for a time, but she quickly tires out of it because they love the dark. she gets sick of the light and they can be a little jumpy so i don’t like to handle her in darker settings, but i can pick her up and place her on my shirt or in the sleeve and she’ll be fine. i don’t have to chase her around like some others i’ve heard
Recently went helping in Morocco and found so many stenodactylus and fell in love with them, so adorable and every one we found had such different markings, some were just stunningt. I would love to have one as a pet. Those or a Helmeted gecko, which we also found tonnes of.
There are just so many great geckos. I have a ton of rescued leos, a weirdly bad-tempered crested, and bunch of both Yellow-Bellied & Hawaiian Mourning Geckos. The MGs are so little & cute, they're probably my favorite with their faint calls, fast breeding, and hyper personalities, but I can see why a lot of people get rid of them not long after buying them. They tend to easy to miss in their tanks & they take a bit of patience to really see interacting. Tokays, Giant Days, Leachies, and now stenodactylus are also on my list to get.
I have and will always recommend for Eurydactylodes geckos. I have a pair of E. occidentalis and a few of their offspring and they are super easy, manageable geckos. Their tiny size is super cute (and convenient) and as adults they move slow enough that they are easy to handle, similar to a crestie or gargoyle gecko.
Great video 👍 you could also add to the list, Viper Geckos. They get to 3 to 4 inches as adults and are great little hunters that can live together. I have 2 adults, 2 hatchlings (so far) and 24 eggs incubating 😮. Their care is very easy, probably similar to the Sand Dune gecko.
Is it possible for you to do a video on the best arid species? Anything that thrives in low humidity and high heat. Thank you for all the videos keep it up!
I remember being really exited for my first Tokay gecko, it wild caught. Ofcourse it had parasites, never gained weight and ended up starving soon after purchase. (He got dusted crickets often, was kept in an 18x18x36, and had optimal hiding and misting). I still miss him.
I got 3 short fingered geckos in a 15 gallon enclosure and they are so funny together but what the dune geckos like is having a dry sandy area for them to burrow and the other half of their enclosure make sure u have it with jungle earth mix bc they also like moist spots too which u can learn about on my channel I've been taking care of them for years. Best little geckos to own.
Omg i am just literally coming back from herping for the sand geckos , theyre native where im from but unfortunately came out to late yo see them, also kinda spooked to go out too deep in the dunes by my own. Great vid!
I have always wanted a red eyed crocodile skink....would you recommend or not? (For more context I haven't had my own reptile did have a snake when I was living at home, I have had horses, many many dogs including my current 3 labradors, currently have fish and way to many quail at the moment I haven't got a big house but can make use of every square inch 🤣🙈)
African Fat Tailed Geckos all the way!! We own two of them and I love them so much. Calm, easy and fast to socialize, not too hard care requirements, good eaters and suuuppeerrr pretty & cute👍🏻 Definitely the perfect geckos for us :)
Love me some Tokay geckos ❤ the various Strophurus species would be great for this list. My Strophurus spinigerus has such a personality. He's really pretty as well. The inside of his mouth is this deep, dark teal. Stunning!
The crested gecko suddenly changed into a bearded dragon which after a few minutes suddenly changed back into a crested gecko. :) Do the Dune gecko's eat sandworms? :) Gargoyle's grow back their tail, unlike the crested. So no danger or ending up with a frog butt.
Tons of Tokays in the Phillippines as well, somehow they seem to have that wild brown and green look. I dont think I’ve seen the blue and orange in those regions.
I'm a fishkeeper mainly and have a very successful planted Platy tank. They've bred many times and do really well. I've always wanted to get into reptiles and having been given the greenlight bye my wife I think its time I go for it. I think I'll go for a lepord gecko first.

I have a female crested gecko called chicken she's about 12 years old that I know as I bought her as an adult around 12 years ago 😅 but good to see another chicken. I have 14 crested geckos (for now lol)
“African fat tail geckos” YES, I love leos don’t get me wrong, but people don’t really consider AFTs. They’re naturally beautiful, they’re very chill and super underrated!
Btw im from where sand geckos occur naturally and humidity really depends on the species. Lichtenstiens dune gecks occur like 4 km from where i live and its 80 % humidity rn lol
miss my amazing leopard gecko i had before a ex gave it away. used to let him out to run around and crawl on me everyday and always had a fat muti colored tail. think im getting an albino leopard gecko soon
I would say a species of Australian Leafttail gecko instead of the satanic or other Leafttails. More hardy, handlable, great eaters and are active during the day
You are a natural born teacher, really enjoy these mini classes. How about a Leachie gecko, they are the largest and so cute in a chubby sort of way, Brian's are making lots of babies these days, thinking they love their new digs in the Caladonian (sp.?) Room. Thanks You, see you soon.
We used to have a lot of iranian fat tailed geckos where I was stationed. Come back from mission find 2 or three in your room. Super docile would just sit on our hands for hours. If I ever get one it will be a fat tialed just because of how much I liked them!
I have a 5 foot BCI, and an adult male cb Tokay, the tokays bite is 100x worse than the BCI's. The Tokay is so agro that if I have to do anything cleaning in his cage I have to wear a fruit picking glove, it is leather and comes up to my elbow, just to protect myself from his lockjaw....if he bites my glove he will hold onto it like a prize for the next 2 hours while barking and screaming TO KAY. While I find it endearing as I rescued him from a house that had cats that would literally open his cage and torment him around the house, it is still troublesome to have a gecko that has a bit of heft to it and serrated teeth with lockjaw hanging onto you for hours on end made that mistake only once.
