Great video! Your narration was spot on , no unnecessary dialogue. I took lots of notes! My project is at 60% completion and will mirror your build, without the Timberlin! Thanks
You are a great builder and Teacher. You have inspired me to build my own Square drop trailer. Very informative and you explain the details well. 10/10
If you would 45° all your ends, you would not need to cap the the end of your square tubing. Plus, it seals the tubing from getting water and other stuff inside. Just a tip from 42 years of Fabrication.
Man, that thing is amazing! Great job! When looking at the tailgate, I thought of a table and sliding or quick release hinges!!! Not sure what the weight is but being able to quickly remove gate that has fold out legs would make a badass portable table for cooking ect. If you had extra hinges on the side or something, you'd only need 2 legs.
I'm new to your channel, just subbed after watching this trailer build. Anyway, my comment regards wiring, In the last 45 years, I have wired more trailers and bikes than I can keep track of. I truely HATE wiring, but I'm very good at it. I NEVER use the connectors supplied. I buy non insulated butt connectors. I slip on heat shrink tubing, crimp my wires, test everything, then solder every connection and then seal with heat shrink. It adds to your build time, but I've never had corrosion in my wire connections. I'm looking forward to watching more of your builds.
Just an awesome home build! Getting ready to build myself, but I’m in the trailer industry, so I’m planning on using a factory built frame. Using a cargo trailer frame for the base, 2X4 tube, and doing some mods myself. Thanks for the video!
5am Pacific time. That was well worth the wait Buddy. Excellent descriptions and explanations of your concept and design. The camera work along with your voice over really made it clear what you were doing and how. It came out awesome, great work.
Nice build indeed. I have a couple of thoughts. Ice, snow, and mud will build up on those runs of wire from the center to the outsides and drag those wires down. I'd suggest using those loop clamps about every 8" or so. From considerable experience, I can say those fenders will break those welds from vibration. Actually, the fender breaks, just outside the weld in the heat-affected area. I have found that attaching the top of the fenders to the bed sides will eliminate this problem.
Get 2 more attachment points for the tongue jack and weld them to the side of the trailer near the wheels. This way if you have a flat on the trailer you can use the tongue jack to change your tire.
As I said I would last night, I have been going through your previous uploads and enjoying every single minute of them honestly!. Your craftsmanship and attention to detail is why the finished product is awesome!. I have been paying attention closely and even picked up on a few new techniques if you will and I'm grateful for that. I definitely want to learn how to weld better if anything so I can truly build something like this and a camper maybe something bigger down the road.. Thanks for everything and sharing the experience and step by step process so we can see just how you did it!. 🙏🙏
Your craftsmanship and attention to detail is outstanding! I am thoroughly impressed. I love the use of the struts for your tent and how you have designed and put it all together. I enjoy following/watching a lot of offroad and overland channels. You've definitely picked up another subscriber and I am looking forward to your future videos!
I really enjoyed your build and learned a lot. Wonder if you might consider doing a basic how to for beginners welding video at some point. I don’t really know what a “pro” welder’s work looks like, but I’d say yours was pretty clean.
Thank you! I’m no pro by any means and like most people, I have a lot to learn! There should be a lot of good videos on RUclips already by people who are professionals! I’d recommend following those to get started!
The trailer pins to hold it closed, I used that to swap/change my tailgate to a ramp tailgate for loading bikes, easy on/off when you need to change it over.
First of all, excellent work! This is a huge resource for my first trailer build. A few thoughts, I’ll probably go with 2x3 .083 for the frame and use 3x3 3/16 for the spline. I love that aluminum is lightweight but it does corrode and will eventually look dull and gross (even though it’s beautiful right now) maybe raptor line a clear coat over it for the outside of the trailer, I also debated vinyl wrapping it then spraying clear) I probably would have raptor lined the entire frame as any spray paint just doesn’t hold up long term. Sealing the corners with a hard sealant inside the bed would be nice so crap doesn’t build up in the corners. Maybe some tie downs inside the bed for cargo, but that’s all personal preference. I struggle with the height of the tent when trailing being so high. I agree the tent needs to be 6’ up for annex room, etc. ideally I would use 30” linear actuators but I can’t figure out how to mount them outside the box and protect them from the weather. Love that the interior bed is smooth and usable, nothing for anything to catch on. The idea for me would be to use the bottom of the tent to seal against the inside of the trailer so keep the contents dry and the dusty coming off the vehicle out of it. However this greatly reduces storage height for what your bringing camping, so it’s a catch 22. I also debated building like a 10” drawer system 360 degrees around the trailer to seal the contents within the trailer and have the tent raise up from that structure. Obviously trade offs to whatever you do and that’s why it’s rad to build these for ourselves to meet our specific needs. Excellent work, hope you can grow your channel and get some money from the resources you provide.
Did you see anything that gives you more than 8" of lift? I like your design but I would like to be able to move it up and down a lot more than that. Thank you! love the build.
Whenever I use VHB, I clamp down one end, lift the other, remove the red backing, lay down that end, clamp it and slowly peel as the sheeting falls, you can lay broom handles across the tape before you peel so as to work on your own. As you know, this stuff is not very forgiving and doing it once is best.
Would this tilt up so tongue is pointing straight up? I'm really wanting to build something very similar to this to tow behind 4runner but want to stand up on tailgate. Or where it stays on axel and and use a block of some kind (2x4) to keep tongue pointing up. Also I concur with previousl comment saying a budget build would be AWESOME! THANK YOU for this video and all the others you've shared.
Nice build , I’ve been looking for ages for a suitable trailer the do something like this not sure I have the skills or tools to do the work you have but gives me some ideas for sure 👍
Wow! It’s a great job. I want to make your tent roof rack. I would like to know if your rack move when you go in your rooftop tent ? I saw you put a nuts on each bars but is it enough?
Gday mate. Great video 👍. Very similar to what I’m thinking for my quad, and 3.7m dinghy on top. I enjoy ur channel. Another option instead of the tape for ur deck, is sikaflex. Does the same, not rattles and no electrolysis from dissimilar metals in contact. Not sure how the cost would compare, and maybe the sika has a higher possibility to be messy, especially when I’m doing it. Interesting to see ur method. Thanks again 👍👍
VHB is used in the fabrication of airplane wings, that stuff is strong, and is an excellent barrier to stop corrosion or any from of galvanic reaction.
Thanks for a GREAT video, changed how I want to rebuild our trailer, Looking for more stroke on the strut, we will be running a tent that is 250lbs, would 4 struts raited at 100lbs be too much lift? it will be holding solar panels underneath the frame as well?
Thank you sir! I’m actually going to be doing a “giveaway” on this trailer very soon! I will upload a detailed video explaining things here very soon! Waiting on some patches to be delivered 👍🏼

Nice build. Giving me some great ideas for what I want to build. Question for you, why wouldn’t you use longer gas struts and lower the tent more? Being for off road, you always want weight as low as possible.
I thought about it but the longer you go the $ goes up from what I saw. Comfortable with the 8” raise tent sits about the height of a mid size bed rack on a lifted Tacoma.
You did a great job! I really like your idea on the tent thing and it solved a question I had for a prodject I have in my mind. But how do you bring down the tent to the lower postion?
End of the video I show it raising up, it’s just reverse order to lower it. It’s An easy 1 person job forsure. And once you lock down the anti wobble bolts on the rack it’s solid 👌🏼
Cool build man. One question on your design that allows post to pivot (not bind) as the hydraulic struts raise the platform. Since those brackets allow it to pivot, how do you keep it from not moving when the platform is in its top position? Will it shift side to side when climbing in and out the tent or when force is applied in the “pivot motion”?
Good morning, I'm interested in knowing how much would you sell this off road trailer with the rooftop tent capacity ? Reason being, I really admire the passion you invest in building these trailer. God bless.

Nice trailer. I have a couple questions please. Very well thought out build. 1. You mounted the Tembren's at 40/60 so did you position with the center of the bracket or center of the hub? They are several inches different... 2. Did you weld the cross member between the suspension brackets? I know you bolted them but missed the welded cross piece, if you did. Seems like that much heat on the nylon washers would be bad, but instructions say to weld them. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! I put the actual spindle where the hub mounts on the Timbren at the 60% back mark. The cross bar is only bolted to each unit not welded.
