In this Valheim ( Mistlands ) guide, I quickly show you how to build a fish farm that WORKS in 2023. No Fishing Rod or bait required :)

btw, you don't have to use iron cage floors, just use wooden poles on the ocean/lake floor to improve structural integrity, doesn't matter if it doesn't snap with the floor, i just make it go trough the floor and it works just fine.
You can probably also just use the cage floors without the wood floor. The wiki claims they are solid (you can't shoot an arrow throw them).
100% - haven't made a fish trap like this but have done the long jetty type builds to hauling in serpents - just sad there isn't more to make from the scales :(
the objective was not to have to do poles from the ground up
Ground level drops beyond reach at certain point so you eventually you will have to use iron.
Might as well skip the poles in that case... but very true
can we just use iron and not wood?
Nice! It's been bugging me in the back of my brain that there has to be an easy way to construct a fish weir, and this is it. Can't wait to try it. :)

ngl after building one of these near a ton of fishes, and watching them all swim away and dissapear from my spot, even after deleting all workbenches and buildings and waiting hours for them to respawn, it's much faster to just catch fish with a pole. I even placed 20 rafts in a line to get more area that fishes could get trapped, all in all i caught maybe 3 fish.
Yeah i just built one too and its not very efficient
Brilliant idea, i went with spearfishing mod to fish em with ranged weapons personally but this is nice for mod free play.

I built one at a spawn and they just disappeared. I don't think this works as well as it used to.
doesn’t work anymore? my fish don’t jump for some reason. I made it 22 meters long, and I clearly see the fish just chilling under the construction 😒

Fish don't want to jump in, I tried 3 fish farms in 3 different places of Black Forest and I got 1 trollfish that somehow spawned somewhere there or whatever

Yep. also made a few of these and didnt have a single fish caught. They swim under and around it but never inside.
just tried no succes a lot of trollfish arround none jumping in must have been ghost patched
sick was trying to come up with a good fish trap going to have to set one up near where some angler fish spawn since they are more wanted then any other fish I mean by the time I needed fish to make the tacos I was able to make the next tier of cooking recipes so this will help with those angler fish :D I mean I had a small wooden box overflowing with fish meat until I wasn't lazy an brought all the black metal back to base to make the best boxes for storage since a nice way to get fish is mainly to flatten the ground just near the waters edge and every now and then the fish will jump onto land waiting for me to pick them up :P

Nice! I always wished I could make fish n bread viable, but catching anglerfish with a pole is ridiculously hard, and I'm not willing to put in 400 hours just grinding up my dang fishing skill.

I use the hoe to raise a circular donut near the shore, then pickaxe a bowl in the center. Even better if you can just find a natural 'V' in the shoreline and just create a bottleneck.
Yea maybe they changed fish behavior(patched it?) i tried this and fish swim under the floor/roof. tried it in my world in mistlands to see if i can catch a pufferfish this way for greydwarf farm
Very clever! Gonna have to try this out.
A great way to passively collect fish while you're fishing yourself.
You can do the same just by raising the ground so that it makes the same shape and waves bring in the fish.

Not sure how u make so many fish just nonstop jump....i cant even find a place like this...all shores are scarse.....any buildings disables nearby fish spawns
did same thing but using poles im early on the iron, got a kinda marshy patch of land were they spawn and they get stuck on top of the rocks, build 2 of these along the coast not into the sea like in the video, now ist always filled with fish

Looks as though it works - per your video however, maybe a patch altered the process though I have three fish traps and I find more along the shore than I doin the traps...? Still working on this.Nice method that worked when you created.

I can't believe they hid the Fishing Rod behind a chance % NPC in this game & not include it as part as the core game?
Odd how you can literally build/craft so many things yet a simple rod just can't be done?
I've done most things in this game but have never fished once. I've spent probably 10+ hours in my sail-ship and have visited so many islands & not ever come across that Merchant NPC
I'm so lucky then. Found it on my second island.
That's so true, when you look at it that way... I too have always found the trader but it might be something worth mentioning in a bug report to the devs
There's a website that will generate your map if you enter your world spawn number. I used it after having the same issue, turned out my merchant was 3 in game days away from my starting location, I never would have found it without this website.
@@omnomshibob Had the same issue, and it felt bad having to cheat with that website just to find the fker. Since I really wanted to fish >.
I did find a fishing rod in a mountain cave. So it is not a "trader only" item. Though, a very very slim chance to find it the right type of cave , so in practical terms it is probaly best to describe it as a trader only item.

Nice video - do you have to reinforce the wooden flooring with Iron Gates or could you just use Iron Gates and get the same stability?
Just use a core wood pole, make it snap "under" and it'll reach sea floor and give you 100% stability

Can you make 2 traps proportionate to one another with a proximity of maybe like 2 to 3 meter?
I love this because it is a legitimate fish trap and not a "farm". The farms are usually ways to leverage the mechanics of the game and feel like cheating. This is an honest trap.

how you can make that without stability? i cant place the floor before it explodes
it falls apart over time.. ingots start appearing and the sides collapse.. no good

Nope, no good. Fish stopped spawning mid way through building it.
Build areas suppress spawns... Make sure no tables are close by, spawns should come back. If not, you need to go out further and place tables to push the spawns back into the area
@@heyapoc It's cool. Lol, I gave up on it a while ago. Fishing still sucks even with the patch and I find enough fish stranded on the beach or any that jump in my longboat to make enough food.

Now Needs the cauldron first to make the entire fish into raw fish and then cookin it in the cooking station .... so not so early , needs the cauldron first

@Unknown Factions yw - haven't built it yet... indecisive as to where I will place it in my world.
But... doesn't the iron disintegrate from being in the water? I haven't seen it fully happen but I remember when I used Iron fence and it wasn't covered the rain would break it down over time...

What is the respawn timer for fish in an area? Let's say you fish up everything in one spot how long for that spot to respawn?
Once the fish are gone, you have to leave the area for a few hours before they will respawn. (and do not leave a workbench or anything else that blocks spawns!) you wont have anymore fish.
But they are easy to make so ive been just moving making more traps while I wait for the fish to respawn near the others.
@@UnknownFactions you mean if you leave a workbench they won`t spawn there anymore? forever even if you remove the workbench?
Update: Restore your backup if this is the case
@@TheImmrtal Of course they're gonna start spawning again if you remove the workbench. How would the trap work otherwise, if you couldn't even build it, since you need to place the workbench to build it? 😂
@@leyline_leila my man, what is meant is, if during the exact spawn time if you have a workbench there, not when you initially build the thing (doh) and yes, if you leave the workbench for too long when spawn triggers they don't spawn there anymore. you a bit slow
@@TheImmrtal You should learn how to word stuff properly so people do not misunderstand it before calling people slow. Removing a workbench, or any of the other spawn-preventing structures, will allow them to spawn again regardless of how long the bench has been there. There is no "time limit" on how long you can have the bench there before fish stop spawning forever.

Not bad idea, sadly fish is close to useless, unless you want to put em on walls
