BEST Way To Farm Unlimited Tar Fast - Valheim Mistlands Tar Growth Farming Guide

- This is probably the easiest to build and fastest Tar Farm in the Valheim Mistlands update. In this video, I show you my Growth farm design to get all the Tar you will ever need for building. Growths only respawn every hour, but you can exploit their spawn points and link them for consistent and efficient farming to get a lot of Tar very fast which is needed for Darkwood beams and Shingle roof elements. You will have an unlimited amount of Tar on your island after building this Growth farm, so you never have to search for new Tar Pits on another one. It is probably the best way to get Tar from Growths after clearing the Tar Pits. Enjoy!

I understand that his is a totally different game but I just got MCD and I am facing a problem. I am on Xbox and at level apocalypse and am trying to get the mooshroom island. The problem is is that when I go to the spots where I should be able to get those purple cubes, they doors won’t unlock. Is this because I haven’t unlocked all the secret levels or something totally different? I reached out to this channel because I used to watch 04AM when I was younger and remembered that the fans here are very helpful. So if anyone has any help please help.
Nice splice at 8:11 to repair the kill box you likely destroyed while recording. You are damaging the farm in nearly this whole sped up section. You make it seem like you can just go up and slash but the hitboxes have to be incredibly precise. Feels really dishonest to not mention this.
"I see a lot of people dig a trench to drain the tar, but that's totally unnecessary." No, all you need to do is carry 400 stone with you to raise the ground a ton... sounds way easier. =X
You'll have to raise and flatten the ground anyways after draining the pit to be able to make those kill cabins, just trying to save you some time :D
@@04AMofficial wouldn't they just spawn on the lower altitude instead? So dig it out and then flatten on the bottom and make the same farm there? I haven't tried any of this just speculation.
Well, if you have a greydwarf spawner farm then having a ton of rock is not a problem.
You don't need that much stone and there's plenty in the plains anyway. This method is 100x easier and faster. People getting butt hurt because their trench is so unnecessary is hilarious. I've been using a hoe to get tar since plains was added and never understood those who spent ages digging a fucking river.
@@wanderingintheabyss
Greydwarf spawn farm?
Interesting.
Thank you, I’m new, and that’s something I’ll try soon.
I’m assuming building a hearth or four, at the bottom of a pit surrounding a spawn?
So I think the main reason people trench the tar pits is to get the spawned tar underneath. If you build the ground up they don't rise and you just bury a stack or two of tar.
I didn't include shots of the tar coming back to the surface, but that is basically what happens after a while once you have risen and flattened the ground, so you don't have to worry about that. I think most people didn't make farms of the tar pit in the first place, only harvested the initial loot and left them be for occasional farming, but not actively with a system
It can get buggy trying to raise it then flat it out and sometimes the node don't want to pop up and I got to do it a few times to get it to show. Sometimes im like man, how much am i actually burying.
@@04AMofficial I would rather dig it out than hope that it pops up. The bottom tare balls are like 20+ pieces so that is like 20 days of collecting if you just miss one of those balls.
also you can save stone while flattening it, by using the method of rising it sideways. getting them on equal level for just 2 stone per square, instead of slowly building up from the bottom
@@synka5922 thought they fix that
Thanks for the video, took a while but have now got four sites up and running. Died a few times but was also able to tame some Lox by dropping Cloudberries around. The tar does rise to the surface so you don't miss out on what has been buried. Great work, now need to check out you other clips.👍👍
Thanks, appreciate it and glad you got it working 👌
Nice video man. You explained it better and created a better video. Making these types of videoes to make the life of a survival builder easyer. Keep it up🥰
Awesome design. Simple and concise video
Excellent video. It's a little intimidating to actualize.. but your tutorial is phenomenal.
Clever plan GJ. Am gonna consider doing that type of farm as well 👍
So all that effort was just to stop the growths from jumping around and making them a bit easier to kill?
Is that really worth while? I think I'll just let them leap about and get good with a bow instead.
Still filling in the ground and linking with portals were good tips and confirming that the growths still spawn even when the pit is filled in is helpful to.
Thanks for that.
Nice. Thank you.
i love this farm it's hard to build without farm when I need hundreds of Tar
good vid, seems appropirate for people playing on individual servers that want a renewable resource that isnt getting respawned
Exactly!
If you raise the ground before draining it you loose out on all the chunks of tar inside the pool as they don't float to the surface and remain buried.
The tar goes up to the surface while you raise the ground
@@alytaromy the loose items that float in the tar do, the giant nodes on the bottom do not float to the top when you raise ground
I see what you did there with the portals & rock at 0:30 😂
I can already see myself dying 500 times before succeeding with this trick. Neat though. :D
Oh yes, building a portal near it is recommended 🤣
Can you place fires under the Spawner box to do the killing for you? Then all you have to do is come Collect the tar and refresh the fires every few days.
No me esperaba que dijeras tres y cuatro en español xd Insta sub y like rey, espero que siga funcionando la granja :3
I've always used a hoe to get the tar, awesome video for farming
buen video gracias 3 y 4 😄
Brilliant design and good timing, I'm about to finish with Modor then on to the plains.
Thanks bro, very much appreciated!
This is very time and resource costly tar farm. Just shoot the mobs with frost arrows for 1 hit delete.
What is usualy do is a stonebox with very small windows in tar pit. Then i just fire arrow the blobs. It costs almost no stone either.
Very nice. No problems with fulings destroying your portal?
You could 'bury' the portals or place them in difficult to reach areas, but since you're only visiting them every now and then, the fuling don't really have time to become annoying around them. It will be more likely for them to spawn far away enough like for example Loxes, so they deal with each other as there is a workbench to prevent that. Only had one lox once trying to break stuff when I ported to it, but that doesn't happen when out of render distance so you'll be there when it happens to take em out
Another option would be to raise ground about 2.5 meters high, build the little portal hut on that, and have stairs coming down. Since the stairs won't touch the ground they won't be able to destroy your portals. Loxen may be able to though, but as 04AM said, having a work bench will stop them from spawning too closely.
Nice
This looks fun. But you can get so much more tar just draining the pit and getting the clusters inside the pit. I cleared a pit the other day with my friend. We got 92 tar from a single pit.
The point is that this is renewable. Yeah you can get 92 tar from a single pit, but you only get it once. If you're on a server with 10 people building shingled rooves, that won't last long. Yes, you can go clear more tar pits, but eventually you clear all the tar pits in your world and you have to make some sort of farm to keep getting more.
The tar inside pops to the surface once you raise it all up and flatten it
@@Humdinger69 exactly this. It will eventually float to the surface and you'll have it all + a renewable source once you run out of it
OHHHHHHHHH Adding
Epic!
Resently started playing on xbox, i have one pretty close to yagluth boss.after a wipe i started looking this up and yeah draining needed...
(I am a soloplayer)
Do the wooden floors on top of the boxes not decay over time, or is that just when it rains? (which i don't think it does in the plains)
It degrades to 50%, won't go below that. It does rain in the plains.
Thanks jake! And yea Teg, you can always pimp the boxes to make em decay proof, this is just the base design that works just fine
Any idea if this is still working in the most recent update?
Rest in peace, small tar pit I drained for nothing ..
you don't need to build a boring mob farming contraption at every enemy spawn location, i think people do it to farm materials for their bloated housing consumption of torch fuel and roof shingles
Disliking this video because disclaimer, the raising ground method doesn't consistently raise the actual tar nodes stuck in the tar pit. I have made sure the entire tar pit was covered with raised ground, then flattened it until no tar was bubbling, and the resulting yield was half of what I normally get by the trench method. You're better off trenching, then raising ground on the trench.
But if you don't drain it you will miss the pickable tar blobs down at the bottom, which is usually quit a lot of tar. Why not drain to get all the tar and then fill it in?
They will all come to the surface when you elevate and flatten the ground ^^ draining is totally unnecessary
But your getting a constant source of tar. Draining it barely gets you anything and once it drained you gotta go find another tar pit
@@jedibateman9452yeah, but you get over a hundred from each pit. vs 2/hr from the blobs. That's FIFTY real world hours to see a return on investment. So why not spend the 10 minutes it takes to drain the pit and THEN build the farm?
it is cool, cant say i will do it but atleast i have the option lol. this game is so tedious sometimes its kind of annoying at times. have to set up janky farms for everything
Is there a way to farm Oozer similar like this?
Hey having real trouble locating the exacts spawns on the growths is there a mod or something that could perhaps help in finding the exact location of the spawns?
Make a short video with your graphics driver or os recorder. I like to use instant replay as i can trigger it after i killed the mob.
Then you can eyeball the exact position from your second monitor or phone.
Ive personally never found a plains biome with more than 5 or so tar pits in it on any random seed. At that rate youre looking at...what, 10 tar per real life hour? Seems like it would be way faster just to explore and find more tar pits naturally, or better yet, just look up a good seed, farm the pits, and do again.
kul vidio mate
thenks mate
My god some of the farms for basic shit in this game is ridiculous. I don't mean your actual build and design, I think this is very useful and probably will eventually have like 30 of these set up for essential tar needs. But the fact that only 2 spawn per hour is straight up bs spawn rates. I guess you can get a decent amount from the stuff in the tar but 1) that is very much a limited amount and theres only so many tar pits in one biome and 2) the "stuck in tar" mechanic is just annoying as hell to deal with for every single pit tbh.
Good video guide though, this will defo help me with this painful grind for large amounts of shingle roofs.
Oh yes, I totally agree. Both Growths and Surtlings take such a long time to spawn (Surtling only 10 instead of 60 minutes though, still long).
I wouldn't mind a 10-30min respawn rate for Tars :D Right now, it really is necessary to exploit their spawns, otherwise you'll never have enough Tar for big builds
You could also clear ALL pits on your world, but good luck with that. I think nobody is waiting for that kind of labor when you can finally spend time in Valheim xD
@@04AMofficial Oh damn surtlings are 10 minutes? I thought they were 5. I agree it is pretty much necessary. I have been doing lots of plains exploring the past few hours but not specifically for tar. Even after exploring 1 whole sizeable plains biome and clearing the majority of tar pits I could it still only yielded about 3 stacks which is pretty trash yield for the time investment imo. Plus the growths almost killed me multiple times. Those things are mad broken. you just get ping ponged and slowed to a crawl lol.
I am having issues getting the pole they sit on in the proper spot.. i think I finally got this correct, but now they don't spawn at all?!? Am I missing something? Is this the bug you said you had to raise the ground again for? I am trying that, but spent a long time tonite messing with it.
If the pole is on the exact spot, they always spawn on top of it, while if it is not and you've raised too much ground, they will spawn under it, only come to the surface again if you get in 'aggro range'. Then you know you need to replace it!
@@04AMofficial One other thing I noticed is that the portals also have a spawn radius. That was my issue with getting spawns.. My portal rings were too close to the spawn area, and thus no spawns were happening. I figured this out when I felt I had broken a tar pit beyond fixing, and so broke down the portals and miraculously I had spawns!
@04AM What do you do to see the range of the workbench???
Take out your hammer and have a building element ready which requires the Workbench around, then you will see the circle you can place it in
Any chance adding the puffer fish to the inside of the walls or a fire under their spawn would make an afk method?
Im afraid they are resistant to poison, but fire (braziers) can definitely do the job!
48 tar per 24 hours if theres only one farm loaded in your chunk, incredibly inefficient and worthless at that point
Good Job!... and i mean it good video and thank you for your hard work. I really mean that.
How ever, these farms are why i dont wish to play this game any more.... Gathering things is endless... and not my favorite game. I dont wish to have to find a means to turn valheim into satisfactory, or factario....
Very Simple -> just dont do it? ^^
wow
how tf he discover that when u put a pole that happens
Am i the only one confused by how you are supposed to kill a tar blob that is inside a box? Is there some weapon that shoots thru walls now?
the boxes seem to be high enough that he can walk up and slash the Growths with a sword. *not sure if the box or wood pole are taking damage from the attack as well.
@@MrBishop077 Yeah that is how i took out my portal in the mist yesterday as i as trying to kill a tick. Builds take damage. Maybe i am just missing something
If you build it exactly like so and slash with a sword, you won't hit any elements of the structure.
The 'hit zone' might be different if you switch weapons, but building it exactly like so would work 100% without damage and using a sword.
@@04AMofficial Okay.. i will have to give it a try.. thank you for clarifying that
How many tar can you collect? With 4 farms , like you explained?
16/hr i guess... not much :/
You get 1 tar per Growth and they have a 10% chance to drop a Trophy.
To get as much as possible/hr, you should link as many pits you can.
You drain the tar pits because theres lots of tar piles that gives you a lot of tar thats under the tar you drain.
They float to the surface after you've raised everything
tres y cuatro
why is my level ground not working like this?
this is the most effective for long term, if you had a large server where everyone wanted tar then maybe worth the time
trenches get to the bottom 4 extremely large piles, which i have never seen while raising the ground, if you have more unexplored plains to find, just drain them
how do you not destroy the pole they sit on?
Dont stand too close to it when swinging ^^
@@04AMofficial LOL.. so practice practice practice.. got it :)
They need to increase the amount of tar we get from growths one is simply too little.
Like boobox says... the reason you dig out and drain the pits is because there is a LOT of tar in them. Why leave it? Secondly, you repeatedly say.. you can kill them with one shot, as you then proceed to use 3-4 shots or swings to kill them....
If you got all the tar from draining them you would not need to build the things at the spawn point, you would have more than enough tar.
So many comments mention this. But not one explains if draining and doing the the spawn thing in the video are mutually exclusive. Can I drain it AND do this spawn trick? I assume no, otherwise all these comments are really silly. But confirmation would be appreciated
To be honest I do the same thing without any of the building. I just shoot em all in the pit, swim through and come back later.
Mmm.. For some reason the growths are not respawning. Any idea why? :S
Did you make sure to remove the workbenches? They count as playerbase structures and prevent spawns.
@@panther-nk2hn Yup, waited for while after destroying and nothing. Are my portals too close to the area?
I think ill just replace the little pole with a brazier.
That could do the job as well ^^ will be slightly more expensive and difficult to build though, especially because you can't teleport those bars
@@04AMofficial al in the name of grind!
@@04AMofficial that would also disable the spawns. perhaps making a surrounding wall of sharp stakes. tho it will take damage and need repairs. dont even know if 3 or 4 of them will survive before the blob is dead.
@@skoatros won't know until I try. Instant blob cooker is a very attractive concept to me.
@@sibiris8474 i love automation to, but check the valheim wiki for "player base" and you will see that braziers and many more have the same effect as workbenches.
Nah this hella too slow it's faster to go to new plains islands and drain all pits for 4 large blobs of tar each resulting 100 to 250 tar per pit...
This would take days to setup😂😂 i try hard all games beat valhiem on pc in less than 50hrs playing it on xbox now going a bit slower. You never gonna need unlimeted tar i cleared one plains of tar i have like 500 tar in like 5hrs this is a waist time but cool idea cant lie
if you play alone, just drain them cause you'll get around 100 tar from each and soon it'll be enough for all your builds.
building this when tar spawns every 2 hours is just pointless
idk man your killer houses look suspicious
This is 100% not worth the time.
There's a reason they designed and coded draining tar pits.
Draining them is a waste of time as all tar will come to the surface if you just fill the pits :P saves you time and gets you a farm afterwards ^^
NNNNNNNNNICE
Give me the new seeeed!!!! pleaseee.
Im so close to finishing the video for this seed, will be out very soon ^^
@@04AMofficial Yay! I just barely got started on your last island. Well, been at it for a couple days. About to set sail. I'm still pretty new but my first couple worlds were terrible that I caved and went for a good seed. And of course, you find a better one! Thanks for all your hard work!
@@natel7382 my pleasure!
Why someone might need an infinite amount of tar? O_o
Beautiful shingle roofs and Darkwood pillars ^^
Black metal chests also
dafuq kinda plains is that!! I have found like max 2 or 3 in the same sized area or bigger.
You can literally find a plains with +20 😁
_"Draining the tar is unnecessary"_
No. There's a bunch of tar underneath, too, dude.
It automatically pops to the surface too, dude :D
I would use console commands to do this cuz growth is a very dangerous slime that attacks you with burst instead of Exhailing a poison cloud around it
I applaud the creativity but this is totally impractical with the current state of the game. It is far better to use devcommands to spawn in all the tar you need. Even draining every tar pit would net you more tar than going through this at least with any given practical time frame.
Cool trick but not efficient
Seems like too much work and a waste of stone for a tar farm since they're pretty easy to kill and only spawn is small numbers.
They are, while it will become super annoying to farm them over longer periods of time without a farm like this.
honestly just cheat it in. literally no shame in it. I dont have time to look after 10 portals and wait an hour just to finish your roof a quarter section at a time. after looking at a few videos about farming it. It honestly seems to tedious to get it being in a late game area and all you wanted to do was finish the roof of your longhouse and move on to more interesting things
Misleading thumbnail. Shows 7x4 stacks of tar being 1400. Even if each kill time took 10 seconds (portal loading time included), you would only get around 720 if you were doing this nonstop. You would need 360 of these portal pairs + tar pits to have this go nonstop for one hour. This is just clickbait. Just give up, my dude.
this guide is what you call "how to waste your time in a fun game"
Some people call it a waste of time while others see it as a long term investment on the world 😁
AllTameable mod.
Thank me later.
