As far as the ticks go. I heard something from one of the Devs that rolling isn't supposed to knock them lose every time but to have a certain chance of doing so. In the most recent bug fix, they increased the odds of it being successful.
That is correct. They didnt specify exactly how much but from the looks of it it should be around 90-95%. They dont wanna make it 100% as it just becomes too easy.
If you turn off your wisplight, the gjall can loose you in the mist. Had one fly right over me within tentacle range. Also, a dev may have leaked that they have a ceiling. Get up high enough (there are mountain biomes in the mistlands) and the gjall can't fly up to you.
another note: you can ride them :) in another vid the dude uses sneek and stays toward the rear. he road it really high in the sky getting it to know he was there it kept going up.. then he jumped off and was gliding with the feather cape.. covered a massive amount of terrain doing that.
I love how frightening the Gjall actually is, and the fact that you hear it before you see it. It's a great enemy to roam the Mistlands, but I'm really worried it's going to be featured in raids as it absolutely demolishes your base. While it's fair to have a great enemy in their territory, that you get the chance to prepare for, it's not fair to have one suddenly appear in a different biome when you're trying to relax and build your base. Please bear this in mind, Iron Gate. But KEEP the Gjall, -it's an awesome mob.
Great video! I was just watching a video on another channel where they were going over the patch notes with some of the staff from Irongate. They mentioned dodge-rolling would not always remove ticks. I think they said it was originally a 50% chance to remove ticks. With the patch they increased the chance since 50% was a bit low if you had multiple ticks attached. Still not 100% but higher than 50% now.
Very helpful! However, in devcomands, if you start flying (Z on PC) then you become invisible (ghost mode) to everything in game. So when you flew above the Gjall, it wasn't reacting to your new higher location, it was just doing whatever it was programmed to do... get high up and monitor for enemies. I realize this is 7 months later so you've probably found this out already. But just in case, and for anyone else looking in the comments.
I spam carapace bolts. With the seekers around, I'm swimming in carapace so it works. I've taken to dodge rolling, if you time it right you can avoid the explosion damage with dodge frames. I dodge roll or take cover and return fire with an Arbalest, all from a distance and aiming for the belly.
I don't recall if you mentioned using Yagluth power (resistance to fire, ice, and lightning). I tried it. Made an amazing difference in the amount of damage I took. Had no difficulty in taking out Gjall with just padded armor, draugr fang and frost arrows. Took a few direct hits close together. Still an easy fight.
it's not difficult if you engage the gjall from distance or bring it to proper terrain (if available, of course)- it's all really dependent on terrain. mistlands is really just all about whether or not you are on terrain that forces you to hemorrhage stamina and being near walls/cliffs that prevent you from avoiding AOE impact (which is 50% of the terrain or more). the gjall is nothing if you can fight it on the flat.
First 2 encounters I downed them with 2-3 frost arrows. I was surprised at how easy it was. Then I noticed the Dvergers running around with crossbows... :D
I'm jealous your mistlands doesn't have much fog. I don't have any clear areas and even using the wisp isn't that great. So far mistlands has not been too much fun. Mostly deaths by me.
Mistlands is very anti-player and very anti-fun most of the time. I have to applaud them for trying something new in such an arrid creative climate in the games industry though, and the ideas are kinda good, just not the consequences of it all. It's also amazing how playable they actually made this design. Sadly it's "fixed" through itemization, which makes for an extremely frustrating period during early exploration. You need to go very slow and extremely careful. Chug enduring stamina meads constantly and the first thing you make is the Arbalast and the Feather Cape. Always engage Gjall or seekers by hitting them in the back/belly from as high a distance as possible. Also having the dual knives out while moving around is very useful as they're fast and doesn't slow you down. Lastly if your biome sucks it's just a consequence of the poor design choices combined with how the map is generated. Go to another Mistlands biome and see if you can make it better there.
This!!! I play with friends but I tend to be on more than them so a lot of my play time is solo and I would mark a nearby Dverger base and then adventure, but if I became overwhelmed I would lead the enemies back to the nearest base and then let the Dverger take care of it 😂
Mistlands is obviously over tuned. First dungeon I found in Mistlands biome protected by - 3 seekers, 1 single star seeker solider, 1 2 star seeker pats nearby close enough to aggro from combat. One of my tiny mistlands biome had 3 Gjalls in it - & since they hunt you while you are in the biome I don't even want to go in. Needs to be tuned down, turrets needs a complete overhaul (they are useless), mists needs to retract more from your wisp / wisp light that you leave behind. Why have such a beautiful zone and you can't even see it.
the mist is annoying, i just hate not being able to see anything even with the wisp, it only clears 1 large beam length, they should allow an upgrade so the wisp clears out more of the mist aorund you, i out run it a lot of the times and i hjate having to stop in order for the wisp to clear out areas.
I've installed a mod "DeezMistyBalls" to have the wisp do more on the mits. Still working on what settings works well for me but the way it does now is just way way to little.
You way over complicated that. What you really need is not mountains but a relatively open flat area. Not even huge, just a 10x10 ish with few trees, rocks, etc, to trip you while you are looking up. Have at least a mid game bow, NOT crossbow, it will work but dps is much lower because of long reload time. And an atgeir. Now once you have engaged the flying creature just walk in a large circle while firing up at it with your bow. MOST of the tics it drops will constantly leap at you but will fail to connect because of your slow radial movement as you walk in a circle. IF one of the tics actually connects to you switch to the atgeir and do a spin attack to kill it and any others close enough. Then continue walking in circle, switch back to bow and continue firing up at the miniboss. IF you happen to notice it firing fireballs at you then do a quick sprint, again in your circle pattern to ensure you don't get hit, but even if you do you should be fine. Recommended 200hp and 1/2 decent armor. I used wolf armor with no problem for a while. A mid level bow even with mid level arrows could easily kill the gjall in less than 2 mins using this strategy with possibly one or two stops to kill tics. With a high level bow and high level arrows and 100 bow skill you can easily kill the gjall in about 15 seconds meaning you should never have to stop to deal with tics until it is dead. Then one or two spin attacks and all the tics are dead. I actually just stop and let them jump on me. Cost me about 1/2 my hp but then I kill them all in one blow, follow up with minor hp potion and I'm good to go immediately into further combat.
The problem with the arbalest is finding the black core to make it. I've died a hundred times trying to search two mistlands areas and have not found any structures. I had 100 bow skill and now it's back down to 20.
I dont have trouble with it i usually scout out the area first then lead it over to an area where theres no mist, usually a mountain area or a different biome, or if those rogues and mages are around i take it to that, get distance and shoot at it while they fight. The only issue i have fighitng this thing is when theres a bunch of seekers around on me, or if i dont know the area and i have no visibility and i cant find a route fast enought o get the high ground on it.
I had a bug happen, unless it's a feature I haven't seen a video on yet. I was fighting a Gjall and had the tier 2 Arbalest, shot it in the underside where all the ticks are and it did like 6237 something damage, insta-killing it. I tried to do this instance multiple times again but it just took regular damage and I haven't been able to recreate it since.
Get in a hit from behind and preferably also in the belly-region and you'll easily halve it's HP with the weakest ammo with that one shot. Same goes for plains-tier bow and arrow, altho hitting it will be significantly harder without getting seen.
I hate to say this but they dropped the ball on mistland , But so far all other areas are fun. Finding dungeons in mistland is aggravating , Bunny hopping around to me is not very fun

Hold on a second. How did you get your stuff to level 3? My understanding is all of the mistland stuff only has the ability right now to get to level two.
The only thing from this that is mistlands gear is the xbow and that maxes at level 2. I took it to level 3 with dev commands to future proof the video a little. Using the skills I show you in this video you can just as easily beat it with a t2 xbow.
Yes it maxes at level 2 took it to level 3 to future proof the video. But the level of the weapon does not really matter that much you could just as easily use a fine wood bow to kill them using the techniques shown in the video.
I gotta be honest, I think the Gjall are really difficult to deal with and not in a good way. The fact that they can attack you from outside the vision radius of the wisp light feels less like a worthy challenge and more like dirty pool. How am I supposed to fight something I can't see? Sure, you can climb a mountain ever 5 minutes to make sure their aren't any Gjalls around, but that just gets tedious really quickly. Like give me a challenge but don't waste my time. You know what I mean? And don't forget, when you do get a Gjall down to 50% HP and it can and often does turn around and goes back into the mist where you can't be see it? You could chase it, but who knows what else you're going to aggro? So the smart play is to sit around and wait for it to reappear. That's so cheap.
They are an audio cue based mob. You can hear them well before they see you. You have to listen for them and be alert as I stated in the video. If you hear one get up high fast. Also if you make the feather fall cloak which also allows you to glide, staying up high isn't really that hard. Stamina draining and a PITA, yes, very much so. Hard, not really. But I do see your points and do understand how frustrating they can be. Like if one or more ticks gets on you while it is shooting at you, you're just done.
The ticks are just the cherry on top, lol. They're not a big deal when you have you're gear, but if you do die, good luck out maneuvering 5-7 ticks in you birthday suit to get your stuff back.
I felt like this as recent as a few days ago. The biggest tip I’ve learned is to unequip the wisp light when they get a bead on me, and run a bit and then crouch. I’m pretty sure the light is how they find you, and repeatedly hitting them unaware with the arballast makes pretty quick work of them. Good luck out there
Yea I think best bet is to just use a hammer and smash them. But also being on uneven surfaces seems to screw with them as well. They are very much a pita though.
removing the mist with admin commands make it alot easier. This isnt really what happens in survival lol. With the mist you can't see anything and you keep getting jumped by other mobs all the time. That shot at 8:55 wouldnt really be a thing lol
He didn't, there are areas in the mistlands without actual mist. They show up as black on the minimap instead of purple. But yeah, sometimes you have to fight them in the mist and it's a lot harder.
I just started playing this game and using a bow is 1000% more effective, you can send 10 needle arrows into the crit by the time you shoot 3 crossbow shots and the thing will be dead instantly, open with the crossbow and put it away, not worth at all to use crossbow
Not really the best strat. I recommmend just using a spear. Keep throwing the spear in his belly while standing under him. kil him in 4 seconds. Yagluth power if u dont have good food/armor
In my opinion they should have went with the spider webs like they showed before they announced the mistlands and some giant spiders would have be nice
yeah the game needs more bosses per biome i think. they need like halfway bosses or ones that drop loot you need to go to the next boss etc. the game just doesn’t feel like it has enough stuff to do. each biome it’s the same thing, work towards one boss, kill it, move on to next biome.

Ok, so the mistland wisp light works to clear the fog away...............but only the fog in the mistlands ? Many have been bogged down by that fog that seems to roll into the plains and stays the day, will a wisp light work on that too ?
Stop calling it a "gal". A native norwegian would probably pronounce it like "yahl". You might hear it with a a hard G in front, "gyahl". Never "gal", ever.
It is a gal though, because it makes children :D. You're right though. Gjall derives from old norse "Gjalla" which means to scream (Gälla in swedish), which is also pronounced with a silent G if I'm not wrong. Otherwise there is the Danish closest equivalent which is Gjalde, which means to reverberate or echo, which also kind of makes sense, since the sound the Gjall produces is a bit echoey.
It is confirmed by devs that the rolling to get ticks off is not supposed to be 100% guaranteed.

Good luck out there
So the rolling is rolling away from where the tick is attached... as far as I have been able to see... I still forget to do it anyway lol
Yea I think best bet is to just use a hammer and smash them. But also being on uneven surfaces seems to screw with them as well. They are very much a pita though.
@Firespark81 in the end you just gotta kill them lol mainly learning to play in the mistlands in teams of 2
J always makes the Y sound in Nordic languages.
removing the mist with admin commands make it alot easier.
Mystlands is very easy when you are armored
Not really the best strat. I recommmend just using a spear. Keep throwing the spear in his belly while standing under him. kil him in 4 seconds. Yagluth power if u dont have good food/armor
Mistlands is pretty empty tbh... and playing with 10 meter draw distance gets boring fast.
The entire game is pretty empty imo. I'd like to see more mob types per area.
@@beowulf2146they need to add those too. But the plains is the really empty biome. Same with black Forest. Only full biome is the swamp and mountain
That's like your opinion man. Try it on a harder mode to increase difficulty
I use a mod Lightsaber game over for mobs
If only you got to fight them on flat land like this….
i gotta level my xbow to 50 then I go mist with that
too risky use it at lvl1 too long to reload
You too honey buns!
"Yall"
Yes, silent "G." Pronounced Y'all. Like: 'How y'all doing?'...
so the G is silent and they J is a Y? That makes no sense lol
@@Firespark81 The developers are Scandinavian are they not? These spellings and a lot of the names are from Norse or Nordic language.
In Norwegian:
--- G before J at the start of a word is always silent, this usually applies even if it is not at the start, gjær - yeast
--- J is pronounced as English y
This ^^
Tick blimps suck lol.
2:14
Boy it’s pronounced yall lol
I see a g add j thats either a G as in girl or a J as in jump.
@@Firespark81 it makes sense I just still hate it
lmao
the gjall is pronounced like y'all. so says the devs.
Considering accents are a thing, this information doesn't help at all. :D
You mean a half life strider :P
More like a Netch
@@MaledictGaming look it up on google then
looks like ticks dont do any damage...nice.
What does aoe mean? 😂
Area of effect. I'm assuming you are new to gaming. Welcome! You're in for a wild ride.
The attack hits a whole area and can hit multiple mobs .
Mistlands is awful, all the joy has ben sucked out of the game.
agreed
what? 'the joy has been sucked out of the game'
have you tried not going in?
are you preparing yourself or going in with trollhide?
I think it's amazing zone but 1 and 2 star bugs are way too stronk
I'm sorry the addition of a new Biome and enemies you can't one shot has ruined the game for you :(
My cousins, friends and I started a new server, I joined with the character I had previously and they all started fresh. I only have up to padded cuirass and black metal weapons. I am holding off on going full ham in mistlands but I have ventured into them and I can handle myself. I have died twice but at the same time I do not have any of the gear that I need to clear the mist or any new items from it. And while the seekers are difficult, I don't think it sucks the fun out, it's added new life to the game for me. This update was huge and added tons of value to the game.
Should be a 4 minutes video, only the last 4 matters the rest is filler for revenue
Yes because me explaining each units mechanics is completely useless. People like you are the ones that run around die constantly then complain about the game being too hard cause you are to impatient to take the time to understand how the game works. Also just because you are to ignorant to see the value in the information I give does not mean others are.
ok fruitcake where yours at
@@Firespark81 some loser have nothing better to do then bash on uploaders..They could've just said nice post and moved on ,, but oh no
@@Firespark81 You wish x)
@@rebelthreefiftyseven6739 Yep nothing like triggering randoms on the internet and have a laugh.
Ok, so the mistland wisp light works to clear the fog away...............but only the fog in the mistlands ? Many have been bogged down by that fog that seems to roll into the plains and stays the day, will a wisp light work on that too ?
Wisp light only clears Mistland fog. Normal fog is unaffected.
