    So Randy.. this video is excellent.. and I much prefer walking through the building process with you step by step vs. only interrogating an already built solution. While it may take longer to create and or view the video, I think the learning is elevated by seeing and experiencing the construction live.. including mistakes.. which we all make. I find that I can pause and replay the passages that need emphasis. All in all, the take away is much more valuable and engaging than just being an audience to an explanation of an existing end product. I highly encourage more of this type of tutorial. Also, I'd like to salute you for being so generous and sharing your unbelievable and impressive EXCEL skills. Getting an insight into your techniques and creative solutions is invaluable. Thank you and Thumbs up!

      Thanks so much Wayne. My first few videos were like this, then I kinda got away from it to try to create more complex applications. But based on the high views of this video, I really must return to this style of teaching, in some instances, since I believe it is easier to learn. It's a fine balance between people who think "yeah i know these steps already" to those who are thinking "oh wait, how did he get to that step?"
      I plan to release some comprehensive courses in the near future that get deep into the training and feature of large applications such as Reports Dashboards, Accounting, Scheduling, etc.
      Thanks so much for your extremely valuable feedback.

      Hi Randy.. thanks and understood. I use the RUclips playback speed to go faster or slower through sections that I feel I know more or less well. Even for something where I think I know the steps, I find that I learn something anyway by watching how a third party approaches it. I get that some might be impatient about that.. can't satisfy everyone. I look forward to your courses. If offered for a fee, I hope you host them on something like Udemy. I've taken a few paid courses there and like the interface and overall environment. If offered for free, well.. even better for all of us consumers out here. EXCEL is like a gold mine.. the deeper you dig, the more value you get. Thanks again for your generosity with the free tutorials.. much appreciated and I'll definitely consider your paid courses in the future, if that is how they are offered. Thumbs up!

      @Wayne, I agree totally, couldn't have said it better myself. The learning is seeing it come together step by step. It is much easier to follow along then trying to check after completion all the code and how it all interacts.

      Hi Wayne, thanks so much for your response. That helps me determine how to approach new training so I can better serve people. The courses will be comprehensive 15 - to 20 hours and I will host them on my own website (www.ExcelForFreelancers.com ), however it will be very similar to the Udemy format. I will make sure to set them at a very fair price, and to include a ton of value.

    One minor thing to remind people about: If you're going to have "Delete Record" delete an entire row, be sure all data mapping, and all variables in columns A & B get stored above the actual area where the records reside. Otherwise, that information might accidentally disappear; especially if those rows & columns are hidden.

    • @ExcelForFreelancers
      @ExcelForFreelancers  3 года назад +2

      HI and thanks so much. Within databases, I use row 1 for the data mapping, but yes you should be careful if you delete rows or columns, data mapping must be updated.

    Hi Randy, Great instructional video.
    I added the following line
    .Range("E5").Activate
    into the Sub Cont_New section as I found it easier when adding a new customer to save the user having to click on the yellow field. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere but I found it particularly useful from a data entry viewpoint. Keep up the great work, I've learnt lots from your videos. Thanks, Tony, Australia

    Thanks for the great tutorial! Learned very much. I would like to ask if a placeholder frame (rectangle) for the picture in the sheet itself would make it easier to load the specific size of the picture and set the desired location rather than in the macro

    • @ExcelForFreelancers
      @ExcelForFreelancers  5 лет назад

      HI thank you for your question Xavier. I don't think a frame would help however you would just want to determine the maximum width and height of a picture, then use those max values to set the picture height or width depending up which is greater, and maintaining the aspect ration.

    I enjoyed this video a lot. Like many replies here I will also implement some of your ideas on my designs.
    I only have a few suggestions for you:
    1- Whenever you refer to some involved steps, put a link to a separate video (or text file) that describes how to perform that step in more detail. That way you save time in the current video.
    2- Why not label the different ranges and use those labels in the formulas and macros?

    The fact that we delete a contact by deleting a row ends up for me with no more lines formated.
    So instead of "EntireRow.delete"
    I did .selection; and Selection.ClearContents; and sort the contact board from a to z (not creating a blank row in the middle of filled ones).
    I would be happy to know an easier way to do that.
    Thanks Randy for this usefull knowledge shared! I am currently using this video to make a Seminars multibilling platform for valet car park at work.

      Hi Corentin, thanks so much for the comment and feedback. Clearing the contents and then resorting the table can work just great, as long as you don't mind the order of your data changing. This may be better as it won't affect things like conditional formatting and named ranges.

    When deleting an contact how can you delete or clear just the columns that have the contact information and not delete the Entire Row. I have added a list of data validation items to the right and I keep loosing information from these lists. Thanks again.

    • @ExcelForFreelancers
      @ExcelForFreelancers  Год назад

      Hi Mark, thanks for your comment. There are instances when we want to delete a contact, but not the entire row. You may want to leave the first column (which should be an ID #) with its value in place. You can run a loop from the 2nd column, to the last column, and clear out the contents of the cells.
      I show you how to do this in this video: ruclips.net/video/aKV5seZmiBs/видео.html

    This is a really walk-through. I added an additional msg box line to the "delete contact" sub, to "double check" that you indeed want to make a deletion. I'm thinking of how to add something similar to the editing feature... you wouldn't want an accidental keystroke to unknowingly allow you to edit a contact.

However when I lock certain cells then protect the sheet the macro buttons no longer run, Is there a workaround for this or some vba code that can be added so I can solve this issue.

      Hello Gary, and thanks for your comment. IF you would like VBA to make changes to a cell in which you do no want the users to make changes to, you have two good choices.
      1. You can Unprotect then Re-protect the sheet within VBA
      2. You can protect the sheet in VBA and add xlUserInterface only which allows VBA to make changes to protected cells that the user is not allowed to change.
      I hope this helps.
